NON MFC: Round 06
Saints proving what shrewed recruiting is. Don't need to go out and spend 800k on a defender when you you recruit someone like a Dougal Howard who'll come in and just do the job. Butler, Hill, Jones all playing critical roles for the saints.

Closer to the end

Craig Jennings Analysis of Dees Game Plan
Lol Jennings.. This is the same guy that said he wanted to coach his own team in the VFL only to instead get overlook for coaching gigs and then picked up a got a director of coaching at... VAFA level... Same bloke that didn't see eye to eye with highly respected development guru Brendan McCartney because he had high opinions of himself and how things should have ran. The dude is as sour as they come honestly Ship off back to the VAFA Jennings where you belong.

What i like about the ins are all players are experienced to some degree compared to the ones who have gone out.

Gary Pert
Didn't realise it was Pert was the one missing targets into our forward entries. Glad I know who the culprit is for dropping the last two games.

Jake Lever.. Can someone explain??
How is this so confusing for Lever? Smith is the one actually taking the 2nd best defender. Same as what Omac would be playing. In fact if anything, Smith has had to sacrifice his normal role as that 3rd floating defender to become the lock down 2nd tall defender to continue to allow Lever to still play his usual 3rd tall intercept role. Smith had Jack Riewoldt all game. Lever just played in no man's land as he has done so far this year. Annoys me that people are still finding excuses to justify his poor form. Sometimes players have to adapt to slight change in role and Lever and just own it. He is far better then the [censored] he is currently dishing up.

WELCOME TO DEMONLAND - ED LANGDON
That says more about our pathetic coaching that Hunt is actually getting a game. The fact he is getting a game ahead of the likes of Bennell, Jones, Weideman, Brown is a complete joke. Goody bangs on about Harley Bennell needing do more with his defensive pressure, yet we have this bloke running around getting about 5 touches a game with next to 0 defensive tackles. Thankfully enough he'll be dropped this week.

WELCOME TO DEMONLAND - ED LANGDON
Hunts a cat. Will be either traded or desisted at years end. In terms of Langdon, he's been fine. Obviously not to the standard as he would like but he's not alone. He's also just ticked over 70 games so he's coming up to that 10o game mark where we'll really start to see the best of his football. Only 24 years of age so has many good years ahead of him. You tend to forget he was in the same draft as Petracca/ Bradshaw.

Dees on Brink of Another Trade Disaster
Cyril or Betts weren't the type to big big possessions either..

Forwards coach
I'd be making a call to Tom Hawkins as a potential 1 year deal player to help the likes of Jackson and Weideman transition onto a forwards coaching role ala Jaryd Roughead.

All good points Wise, and I do get where you're coming from regarding Jackson. As you said, for now time will tell.

Dees on Brink of Another Trade Disaster
But he wasn't a reach? Bulldogs and Port Adelaide have been noted to say that they were set to pounce with him with their first pick had we not selected him The doggies had Pickett ahead of Weightman as well. Hawthorn were another club that showed interest and were seriously considering him as they currently have an aging Paul Puopolo as their only small forward.

Dees on Brink of Another Trade Disaster
I think we all see this Wise. I think every club would love a Luke Jackson based on his raw potential. But right now we are losing games because our simple inability to hit targets going inside 50 and around. This has been a concern raised by many on here since mid 2018. My current concern is was Luke Jackson really what we needed at pick 3? And trust this is no way a blight on Jackson the footballer as I think he'll develop into a fine footballer. But I highlighted three players that should have been in our sight at that pick that fit the bill of improving the skill set of our side. Its such a glaring weakness, and yet Simon Goodwin and the recruiting staff I feel did not address this at all. let me just say I was happy we did select Jackson, but this was I suppose on the back what I thought would be an improved year and that our skills would be vastly improved. Jackson becoming a good forward is years away down the track. He was picked on glimpses that he showed at Colts level. Glimpse that never saw him kick more then 2 goals in any games. Maybe I am too impatient of wanting Jackson to come in and make an impact straight away. I look at Ash, Young and now Stephens who are all playing games of AFL and contributing already (Stephens is debuting this weekend ) and bit envious of them. Rivers and Pickett will be rippers btw.

Dees on Brink of Another Trade Disaster
The problem won't be whether we have a 1st round or not this year. The problem will be whether we selected the right type of player at pick 3. I am a Jackson fan and think he'll be a good solid player. I'm starting to question whether we made a mistake on not selecting players with quality kicking skills in Young, Stephens and Ash. Was an up and coming young ruckman that's going to take 5 years to develop really what we needed at pick 3? Regarding the Kozzie pick, this will turn out to be a steal. Don't underestimate how good this kid can be. Already reminds me of a mix of Eddie Betts/Charlie Cameron.

CHANGES: Rd 06 vs Gold Coast
Agree, He's showing up a lot of our more senior players with his defensive pressure. The likes of Melksham can hang his head in shame.

Its heading that way.

Weideman's Future?
Let's go one better and have a Nick Reiwoldt, Wayne Carey, Mathew Lloyd or a David Neitz come down and spend some time with Weideman.

How bad is this year?

Garry Lyon: "Melbourne Supporters are Gutted"
Premiership winning coach for the Giants reserves in the NEAFL and is currently works with their forwards as well. I know internally he was highly rated by Roos and was disappointed in losing him to the Giants. Very much respected within Giants circles and is doing a fine apprenticeship under Cameron so far. He'll never come back to his family, but he's someone that's doing a decent job up there.

CHANGES: Rd 06 vs Gold Coast
I remember Hunt was talked about as one of the best up and coming young half backs in the game. It's either defence or flop for Hunt.

Garry Lyon: "Melbourne Supporters are Gutted"
There is only 2 past people id happily have at the back and that's Adam Yze and Brad Miller.

Garry Lyon: "Melbourne Supporters are Gutted"
Lyon, Connelly, Stynes, Healey, Schwab, Viney. All at one stage were working within the club. We won't need to be reminded what that lead too. None of our former greats have never tasted success. Why bring in former players that have been part of the problem all these years. Never did I see Hawthorn or Brisbane in their golden era made up of people from within their club. They went out and recruited the best people they thought could influence the standards and culture of their club. Just go out and recruit the best person that fits the bill. Paul Roos and Peter Jackson were exactly that.
