Kozzy Pickett Re-Signs for 4 Years

Pete Ryan who is one journalist I respect highly has released this article. https://amp.theage.com.au/sport/afl/kysaiah-pickett-to-be-given-time-to-weigh-up-future-20230130-p5cglx.html Melbourne are well aware there will be suitors but are in open dialogue with Pickett’s management and comfortable their premiership forward is happy with coach Simon Goodwin, his teammates and the way his career has been managed. Sources close to Pickett also confirmed he loves playing with Melbourne. -
I was a huge fan of his draft year. Plays that outside mid/half forward role and would certainly compliment Kozzie well on field.

I can't open it but I believe it's in regards to Liam Henry from the dockers??

Did that money go to Gus though when he signed the 6 year deal? -

Mark Williams SEN interview 31/01/2023

Does this mean they are trialling him as a half back flanker from the training you've observed? I too liked him at half forward. I think he'll be a similar player to James Jordon, especially with Woewodin's versatility to play as a wingman, half forward and half back. In today's game it's always handy to have players who can swing forward, back and mid. His kicking at VFL seems to hold up pretty well from what I saw? I presume at training it's a hit and miss? -

The Taj Woewodin probably doesn't really surprise and that's even without watching him training etc. But I was told last year by someone who had a little connection in the cooperative dealings with the club that the coaches rate Woewodin's professionalism at a real high elite level. Blew them away in a short period of time just how driven he is with his training and off field work ethic. Again, no surprises considering his old man was one of the most professional athletes in the competition back in the early 2000's with his diet and preparation.- 18 replies

Not sure if this link works? But he was interviewed on SEN SA this morning. Mentions JVR and Taj Woewodin as young players to keep an eye out this year. https://cms.megaphone.fm/channel/NTETP1973407841?selected=NTETP3408867769

Lol c'mon mate... He's a paid commentator/journo. He's doing exactly what he's paid to do and that's simply give his opinion. You say he's an unashamed Freo bias but yet he was the one that actually question the Luke Jackson trade instead of fawning over it like many other WA journo's -

What so people aren't allowed to make pre season predictions?? No different to many on here who predict these kind of things of the back of pre season training reports. -
Why Luke Dunstan came to Melbourne

Agree. The sub could work well for the likes of Dunstan and Sparrow who could come on and provide much needed relief and grunt when games are neck and neck. -
Why Luke Dunstan came to Melbourne
dazzledavey36 replied to george_on_the_outer's topic in Melbourne Demons
I reckon Dunstan was pretty stiff at times in getting more AFL games. There were opportunities there where I felt we needed another big bodied experienced midfielder to come in towards the back end of the year and shoulder the burden off Oliver and Petracca who were getting physically targeted aand heavily tagged. The two finals games were perfect opportunities to bring Dunstan for Sparrow imo. Sydney's experienced and bigger bodies were simply too strong for ours. Then against Brisbane Jarrod Berry put the hard clamps on Oliver and took him out of the game while Petracca was running around on a broken leg, Viney was disappointing and Sparrow was completely overwhelmed and MIA. Someone with bigger body and over 100 games of experience would have been handy to chop out in the midfield. I've harped on this before but Sparrow (yes I know coaches rate him highly) was pretty disappointing for me last year. I know he does the defensive stuff well but when we needed someone to stand up to help the likes of Oliver and Petracca, he was no where to be seen. By all reports he's having a strong season so hopefully that'll translate into stronger influences on games. On Dunstan, I have no idea where he's at now. Clearly Goody doesn't see fit for him at all and it's now looking like another Brayden Pruess perplexing decision in bringing him in even if it's depth. Goody's reluctance to reward VFL form or bring in the required depth when actually needed means the likes of Dunstan will be lucky to play 5 games this year. -
Taj Woewodin and Deakyn Smith have put on significant muscle over the break.
