Mitch Clark's 6 goals - how ... 'depressing'.
hemingway replied to bush demon's topic in Melbourne Demons
Sorry Curry, this is a massive generalization that creates a false impression. If this is what your GP does , then change your GP. The diagnosis of depression will be determined by the GP taking a case history (unless you are already well known to the GP, asking relevant questions, and in some cases using a questionnaire. In the latter case, the questionnaire is used as an additional tool not as the determining and sole means to diagnose the condition. In cases of doubt, the GP will refer to a specialist (psychiatrist) for a psychiatric assessment. This is what a capable and experienced GP will do. -
i have learnt more on this thread about the EFC saga than anything I have absorbed from the news media. says something about the informed analysis on this thread compared to what we get from the news media. The differing opinions and interpretations about the process have been fascinating. What a saga......an it continues on.

true nasher, very true. lets just say at the moment we definitely have more options in the midfield. We will get a sense by mid season whether we have good depth.

Melbourne v Fremantle @ Fremantle Oval - 5th March, 2015
hemingway replied to Bleeds_Red_&_Blue's topic in Melbourne Demons
The aim of NAB matches is for teams to work on their structures &game plans and implement some of the plays they have been working on. It's a time for coaches to experiment to get some sense of how far the boys have progressed and likely line-up for the early matches. I am looking to see improvment as well as future potential. Do we have greater depth, is our ball movement quicker, do we have a forward line that can kick goals A win is a bonus but really the NAB must be seen for what it is. And I always hope like hell we get no serious injuries. -
Very elegantly stated Beezle.

Amazing discussion going on here. Pedantic but interesting.

Spot on Dub. A hip flask of brandy or whisky is essential.

Agree that food and drink prices have always been extortionately high but same could be said for most entertainment venues. Over recent years, the MCC has done a good job of understanding patrons food preferences via surveys etc and introducing more food options. For example there are now vegetarian options. No-one can complain about the number of food outlets and bars. The MCC is listening to patrons and doing its best to improve both food options and prices. They should be congratulated.

no just allows me to drink more whiskys over a longer period. no longer a young man. need to look after my body now. my days of straight whiskys are over.

These training reports provide a reality check for the season ahead. Well they do for me. Perhaps TDI's prediction is close to the mark. Improvement but no exponential rise. Thanks for the reports, observations and insights. Interesting to read the differences Nice balance to the reports. Great work chaps. Whisky and soda time.

Really good discussion on this topic. Well informed posts providing interesting opinions and diversity of views. This continues to be an amazing saga, the like of which we have never seen before and unlikely to see for a long time. A saga driven by wrong doing, shady characters, reputations, egos, greed, politics, power, money, vested interests, court room battles, desperate people fighting for reputations and futures. The only thing missing is sex. Perhaps still to come. Some unlikely couplings? What is surprising is the complete absence of shame. This tells us a lot about the underlying pathology of those involved. Narcissistic egos and shame are incompatible. Also tells us a lot about the damage one person can do when unchecked by others. Megalomania is a destructive force. There is going to be a good book coming out of this.

thanks TDI just looked at the website ..quite an eye opener.we have 4 medicos headed up by a sports physician, dr paul blackman from olympic park sports medicine, a club doctor, a match day doctor and a VFL doctor. compared to the past that is impressive, we also have 2 physios including the well regarded gary nicholls. back in the northey days we did have the highly regarded dr peter brukner from olympic park sports medicine and also dr andrew daff. after a period when we looked light on in this department we now look to have a solid group of medicos who presumably will engage in peer group reviews of player injuries and rehab. when you look at the support staff listed it is another example that at least on paper we have a super professional football dept.

Agree, good position to be at start of season. Much rather the club be cautious at this stage so that players do not carry niggles, soreness into season proper. With the pressure on to play I always prefer to see the club allow a player more time rather than less. We do have greater depth this year so if we start winning some games early that takes the pressure off injured players. As a matter of interest who are the medicos? Not talking Misson or physios but real dinky die doctors.

Fair enough BB showing my ignorance so probably should not have commented but all i see is an intractable dispute that has to be settled in some way. maybe as you say it is simply enforcing the rules. however with all the vested interests don't see EFC accepting heavy sanctions and if they come about, there will be appeal after appeal. nobody wants that. everyone has their price.
-
I am not all over the law in regard to this matter, but cannot see how this conflict can me settled any other than by way of mediation. the wild card has always been hird. however, cannot see how the AFL, EFC and ASADA can resolve this any other way. ultimately all the parties need to move on.

this is the point. why do we dwell on a player that's long gone. same with James Frawley, Mitch Clark etc. they have made their decisions right or wrong. you don't need to respect their decision but gee just let it go. we now have a professional sport where players will move for money and better opportunities. this does not always sit easily with personal integrity and the way players and their agents conduct themselves but that is the modern game. big money will always corrupt people and organizations. in the wider world, employees seeking more money and better opportunities in their respective professional fields are not normally up front with their boss or employer. and in the same way employers are not up front with employees who are about to be axed. there is always a level of clandestine activity by employee and employer. no-one is a cleanskin when personal ambition or money is involved

KUDOS TO THE MFC AT CHINESE NEW YEAR!
hemingway replied to The Song Formerly Known As's topic in Melbourne Demons
good point OD. -
Yes it is Old Dee, but still a pity. Don't think it has to be that way and it just cuts out a lot of supporters. Lose the support of the common people and the game is dead. Also too expensive for me. My only spending these days is on whisky.

KUDOS TO THE MFC AT CHINESE NEW YEAR!

Need to do more work with the other largest growing community, the Indians. Real opportunity here that has already caught the attention of other clubs including Eddie's mob. Mentioned this to the club a few years ago, but did not seem interested. Was not part of the marketing strategy? -
Always disappointed about the price of these functions. Similar to MCC functions. Excludes the rank and file supporter who simply cant afford these prices. I may be wrong but I rarely see functions advertised that are affordable to most supporters even the passionate ones.

The training posts have been fantastic. Very high quality and useful insights without the ego of the reporter intruding. Pity some of you are not footy journalists...no, probably not otherwise your reputation and integrity would go out the window. So like so many others, your posts are really the best thing about this site. We are learning a lot about how individual players are developing and what our options are likely to be. It is not surprising to read the comments on our "old players." Nothing much seems to have changed. I think for some of those players this season may be their last gasp. Our improvement as a team is clearly going to come from the inclusion of our new recruits such as Lumumba & Garlett together with the likes of Salem, Toumpas, Frost etc, No doubt we have greater depth so we should expect improvement, however, I suspect that it is not going to be exponential. Time will tell, however, my mindset is that we will see gradual improvement this year which hopefully provides a foundation for the next 5 years. Unlike the top teams we still do not have a nucleus of star players or match winners. Hopefully we will develop those players as wins and confidence come but it is going to take time. But as Old Dee has previously stated we are dancing with our sister until the real deal starts. Lets temper our expectations. -

Sounds like Hogan was solid. Was he moving freely? Any restrictions in running or presenting? Did he play whole game or rested?
