Rating the 2013 Draft (afl.com)
Watts the matter replied to Engorged Onion's topic in Melbourne Demons
Well I know they weren't 2nd in line after Salem. We had Lewis Taylor on standby as our back up for pick 9. -
Rating the 2013 Draft (afl.com)
Watts the matter replied to Engorged Onion's topic in Melbourne Demons
That's a different discussion, I guess you could interpret the sentence that way if you wish, but it's not my line of thought. They overrated the players that they were considering at pick 9. You would think that they thought there would be little difference between the player picked at pick 9 and the player picked at 2. I remember at the time of the draft, Kevin Sheehan talking about how he thought this could be the best top 10 in the history of the draft. Undoubtebly Cripps is an elite talent and would have been a steal at pick 9. Zach Merrett is another one if you are going down that path of players taken after pick 9. The difference is Kelly was widely considered to be a future star by multiple clubs and was being labelled a future Brownlow medalist prior to being drafted by recruiters. -
Could be handy depth but he doesn't play the same role as any of these players. I would much prefer him in the team as opposed to Maynard though.

Rating the 2013 Draft (afl.com)
Watts the matter replied to Engorged Onion's topic in Melbourne Demons
Either way, our recruiters messed it up. If they were able to identify how good Kelly was and how limited Tyson was then they would have advised the club against proceeding with the trade. It seems they also overrated what would be available at pick 9. Other clubs rated Kelly a lot higher than we did and it shows that they were on the mark. Kangaroos are on the record as saying they tried to get a pick in the mini draft to get him. We had 2 shots to get him and elected not to on both occasions. -
PICKS # 26 & 31 (formerly # 23 & 28)
Watts the matter replied to Wilson7's topic in Melbourne Demons
You are comparing Spargo to Gresham? One is extremely talented while one gets the most out of his limited ability. If McHenry is like Spargo, not interested. If he is like Gresham, he won't be available at our pick. -
Strongly disagree that the numbers show that. The numbers show that most of the elite key position players explode in season 3 or 4. Jesse has continued at a similar level since his initial season. His numbers I would imagine are similar to Jack Darlings. Goals in 4th season: Riewoldt 78 Roughead 75 Walker 63 Cameron 63 He is a good player, but he isn't close to the player some on these boards talked him up as from season one.

Don't know what the rules are these days but in the past that may have prevented him from starting pre season with them. 75 is useless to us and I would make them go to the draft if that's all they are willing to part with.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - KADE KOLODJASHNIJ
Watts the matter replied to DemonLad5's topic in Melbourne Demons
He has at times. Mahoney has stated that he sees him as a half back and wing option to bolster the strength of our running midfield. -

Also, that we still ask the question about Gaff, but have been told for a while now that it's a no go. -
Have seen a few mentions popping up in different threads and just wanted to get it all in one place. Would be great if someone could post what was discussed. What I took from it: - Happy enough for Tyson and Kent to explore options - Rate Vandenberg higher than the above and would like him to stay, but for personal reasons is exploring his options in Sydney - No play for May with Hogan still on the list, up to Hogan - Jayden Hunt won't be traded -Confired interest in Kade Kolodjashnij More discussion going on now post interview with Mahoney. Edit to include audio link. https://omny.fm/shows/trade-radio/josh-mahoney-on-nab-trade-radio-4

Internal options for a speedy winger
Watts the matter replied to Lord Neville X Flash's topic in Melbourne Demons
Take out the word speedy then we can have a discussion. Fritsch's aerial work and foot skills make him a good option. Stretch at times has looked to be a decent option. Hunt has no idea how to play on the wing. Not a fan of JKH in the team, his body frame is just so small and is so easy to spoil in aerial contests. He did some solid work late in the season. Garlett is Garlett and time we move on. Is capable of some good games but I don't think we can trust him again. I was hoping Hannan would be when he was drafted, but doesn't find enough of the ball. Kade Kolodjashnij is more than capable of playing on the wing and would be the best option along with Fristch from that list if he can get his confidence back. He was awful this year. Harmes is a decent option on the wing at times. -
Why? Salem was given a go in the middle in the first half of the season and showed he isn't that good at it.

2018 Player Reviews: # 40 Patrick McKenna
Watts the matter replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I never saw him play at Casey but his highlight package when we picked him up showed some neat skills. http://www.melbournefc.com.au/video/2016-10-20/pat-mckenna-a-demon -
Probably that Tyson is a lovely kick. BT and numerous other commentators always drop this line in.
-
You can dream. That would be a horrific outcome for GC.
-
Firstly, there has been no link to us from any media. Secondly, he is looking for a 7 year contract on big money. I don't think anyone who watches him regularly would be able to justify that. He is a nice player with all the traits you look for in a player but the sum of all his parts doesn't seem to equate to the performance he puts out there on a weekly basis.
-
I don't see any relevance between the 2 players?
-
Unfortunately, I feel you are right. No trade!
-
I would hope we intend to turn one of the picks into a player. If Hogan's going out I would want Wingard, Shiel or May coming in.
-
The fact we had Spargo playing in a preliminary final is a huge indictment on this guy. Spargo would struggle to get a game at any other team in the competition. Has shown he cannot be trusted to turn up week in, week out and should be delisted.

Shout Out to MFC Media Dept & FC Management
Watts the matter replied to DEE fence's topic in Melbourne Demons
Was almost about the echo these thoughts. Then I watched Simon's Selection video and the graphic comes up with the details for last weeks game during the video. Was watching the video and thought Goodwin could have given at least something on the reasoning behind the change (and yes I realise its obvious but would still like to hear it from the coach). Other than this, great work and enjoying all the content. -
Hawthorn looked to expose him and had Henderson pushing forward on him on multiple occasions. There was an instance in the first quarter where he was easily turned around inside 50, it was just poor defensive play. This may have been the time Gunston missed the simple pass. Dom is a decent player, but as a wingman he is a poor player.

The SANFL Preliminary Final fiasco
Watts the matter replied to Grapeviney's topic in Melbourne Demons
It's too simplistic to say they only scored 8 points. It's a lot harder to score against a team playing with 19 players so they have stopped WWT from scoring for that period of time which they may not have been able to do otherwise. -
