  1. Yes. Do you really think players have no idea of the machinations of trade deals? Managers keep them informed of most of the details of prospective trades when they're looking to move on or when clubs are enquiring about them - obviously what money they're offering but also what their current club is asking for in a trade in terms of players and/or picks and what their prospective club is willing to give up to get the deal done. I'm confused as to how people would not understand that?
  2. Sorry to interject but Dangerfield would have come to MFC at the end of 2014 if we'd have got the deal done with Adelaide. Club made a huge play at him, went on an absolute charm offensive to him and his family. He rates our list. The Trengove pick (I think it was 9) from Richmond would have been on-traded to Adelaide along with our pick 3 which was used on Brayshaw. Source: Dangerfield himself during a round of golf a couple of weeks ago.
  3. Not having a crack at you personally dazzle, just reckon it's really tiresome to have the same argument over and over again.
  4. Jesus, please can we not? Happens every single time he posts something.
  5. Not quite. He said this, in May; "If Dion chooses us as his preferred destination, he will end up a Dee. My understanding is Dion will choose us. Hogan will re-sign along with McDonald. We are unlikely to lose regular 22 by choice. This is the firm belief of our club." Not sure that's a lynching offence. Sounds like our interest in Prestia from previous years and earlier this year has cooled.
  6. Yep he was. He's got a couple of other big things right too, and also a couple wrong. He seems to offend certain people for some bizarre reason. No idea why people who think he's bullsh1tting don't simply ignore him.
  7. McDonald isn't a free agent. He's only 23.
  8. McDonald isn't a free agent. He's only 23.
  9. Sam Landsberger reporting on Twitter that Myke Cook will front the VFL tribunal tomorrow night. I suppose I'd have anger problems too if my parents called me "Myke"...
  10. And I'd really like to win the lottery.
  11. In what world is Michael Barlow a "gun"? If he's a gun then Fyfe is the greatest footballer the game has ever seen. He averages less than a goal every 1.5 games so not sure how he's a goalkicking mid either. He's been a solid workhorse of a player but wouldn't be in our first choice starting midfield, just as he hasn't been in an injury-decimated Freo's this year. About to turn 29 and out for the season with injury. Pass.
  12. What extraordinary hyperbole. Has had to reinvent himself as a tagger after being dropped earlier in the season by the team sitting third from bottom.
  13. Think we're pretty covered for midfield depth with the likes of Trengove, Newton, Michie, ANB, VDB. It's quality we need not quantity.
  14. Yep I loved Stinga as a player, was my first hero
  15. I usually find myself nodding along in agreement with the majority of your posts PD but this one got me thinking. My earliest memories of watching the Dees are the early 90's and in that time Jones is probably the equal best midfielder I've seen, along with Todd Viney. Both had their weaknesses, both B+ players, but for consistency of performance they're my best two. Johnstone had them covered by a mile for talent but mixed the sublime with the totally ineffectual, Woewodin, McDonald and Moloney had one standout season but were largely solid and capable foot soldiers, and Leoncelli and Tingay I loved and were honest as the day is long, but never quite made the step up to elite that might have led to us winning a flag in that exciting mid-late 90's era. In more recent years we've pinned our hopes on Trengove, Sylvia, McLean, Morton, Scully and even Gysberts who all showed plenty early doors but none of whom, for various reasons, came even close to fulfilling their potential at the club. I'm just wary of declaring that those three you mentioned, after 25, 64 and 10 games respectively will all be better players than our best (arguably) midfielder of the past 25 years. Of course the fact that Jones, despite being a heart and soul player who gives his all every week, holds this title is an indictment on the recruiting, development and culture of the club, and that the wheel is slowly turning in this regard. No argument there. But they've all got a hell of a lot of hard work to do to get the most out of themselves like Jones has done and to play for a decade at the level he has. One thing they will have is quality midfield help, which Jones hasn't for the vast majority of his career. They've all shown terrific potential, really exciting potential, but I'm not quite as bullish as you just yet. There have been too many cautionary tales!
  16. What an odd post
  17. There's no conspiracy to be found. Some players are just longer kicks than others!
  18. Yes GWS had about 8 one season
  19. This is rubbish. Sport is about winning. Why else have we stuck with our beloved rabble of a football club for 50+ years of almost complete ineptitude? Is it in the hope of all 22 players having a "real crack for four quarters" regardless of the result? No, it's in the hope that we'll see our club win a premiership, it's in the hope that all we've suffered through will be worth it in the end.
  20. Very interesting insight on Jayden Hunt from Robert Shaw, ex player and current BGS 1st XVIII coach, and also on Jack Watts and how Melbourne failed him development wise early on in his career. Go to 34.50
