  1. It's a good question and one I've thought about a lot. For me, these three are very hard to split but are the clear standouts from the 21 we kicked or whatever it was. 1. Petracca. Capping off arguably the most dominant individual GF quarter in history with THAT. Get outta here. (Little did I know he still had a hand to play in another) 2. Oliver. Legitimately pondered the possibility I had died and was at the pearly white gates after this goal. And yet it's still only #2. 3. Fritsch's 4th. Was a bloody goal without any context, but add in the crowd noise, BT's commentary, Fritsch's celebration and the realisation we were back made it pretty special. MIght be time for yet another rewatch of the 3rd quarter.
  2. I have no plans to rewatch it but seem to recall the Dogs lead all game, were challenged late then flexed their muscles again to win comfortably. Agree on the umpiring, but kicking straight and taking your chances is part of being “the better team on the night” IMO. Anyway it’s irrelevant now, the losses helped shape our flag and like most of us I get overly emotional and read too much into things in the immediate aftermath of any loss.
  3. That Bulldogs defeat was the worst performance of the year. Empty stadium, horrendous weather, horrendous umpiring but honestly a game where for the first time all year I thought to myself “We aren’t good enough”. Dogs were clearly the better team on the night.
  4. It’s still a bit puzzling to me as to how we got him so cheap and with minimal interest from other clubs. Was a goal kicking machine before the knee injury. No surprises that he eventually returned to be a goal kicking machine after the injury. Can extrapolate that he would have kicked 48 goals in a full season and that’s just as a role player and a slow start. Maybe the knee injury was more serious than what I remember it to be. That’s literally the only thing I can think of. Fritsch and Benny will combine for 100 goals next year. And the year after. And maybe the one after that.
  5. Brilliant interview. One of the better transcripts I've read through. Max has that rare and perfect blend of humour and insight when speaking about the club. Re. Goody: "The members get a bit annoyed by him and media, because he's very much one message in his press conferences and quite monotone....." made me LOL.
  6. I wasn’t planning on changing my username, but after hearing JB say “Bang Bang Bang” for the 100th time I though I liked the sound of it. Love seeing Jaded’s new name too. She’s been on here as long as anyone. @Jaded No More
  7. I for one have not and will not move on for several months. Even then I won’t really have moved on. The rest of the world can please themselves.
  8. I'm not sure if he gave anything specific, but I'd put it down to the following factors: Money and contract length. I think the offer was reported as 4 x 700k a year Previous ties to the MFC. He was close with Paul Roos and nearly got drafted by us in 2014 Melbourne were an attractive prospect at the time. A lot expected us to be on the cusp of success. Jordan Lewis chose us 12 months previously precisely for this reason (but obviously mistimed his run and should have chosen Richmond). We won 12 games and were damn good at times in 2017 He reads the future as well as he reads the ball
  9. Interesting to revisit this trade. We were widely condemned at the time for over paying but let's actually look at what came in and out. In came Jake Lever, a 2017 second round pick (Harrison Petty) and a 2018 third rounder (traded on to St. Kilda who picked Matthew Parker) Out went 2017 pick 10 (Lochie O'Brien), a 2018 first rounder (Liam Stocker) and 2018 fourth rounder which ended up with Fremantle (Brett Bewley) Jake Lever is an AA defender and still just 25 years old. Harrison Petty was steak knives and may yet be an AA quality defender himself. I'm sure JT would have used the outgoing early picks much more wisely than picking [censored] O'Brien and Stocker, but it still goes down as one of our all time great trades and still has 10+ years to go.
  10. I remember thinking that after the third quarter of the prelim. Then we went out and topped it two weeks later.
  11. Kicked the same amount of behinds as 2020. But an extra 37 goals.
  12. All of these goals have just been superseded by C. Petracca vs Bulldogs 2021.
  13. Trac's third quarter is the stuff of legends. His goal in that quarter will be one I'll replay 10000 times and tell the grandkids about. I can't believe what we all just watched. Love you all.
  14. So Roosy actually did immediately want to draft him based off his highlights vid. I always thought that rumor was a bit far fetched.
  15. I feel like he’s just as good early. Oliver, Jackson and Kosi were all brave “reach” picks that went against the grain. We could have easily gone down the safe route in each case with Parish, Hayden Young and Weightman and still ended up fairly pleased, but the three he went with are light years ahead.
  16. Oooooo good call on the Watts goal, that one had slipped my mind. Definitely up there.
  17. Two weeks to kill time so why not open this up for discussion? Here's my list of all time favourite MFC goals. 1. Max Gawn vs Geelong Rd 23, 2021 2. Mitch Hannan vs Geelong EF 2018 3. Max Gawn (from 55m) vs Geelong PF 2021 4. Jeff White vs Bulldogs 2005 5. Adem Yze vs Adelaide SF 2002 6. David Schwarz vs Carlton QF 1994 7. Austin Wonaemirri vs Fremantle 2008 8. Cam Bruce vs Carlton QF 2000 9. David Neitz vs St.Kilda EF 2006 10. Russel Robertson vs Essendon 2005 First year watching Melbourne: 1994 A lot of these are ranked on context hence why goals like Farmer's in 1998 missed the cut.
  18. Jason Bennett’s “ARE YOU KIDDING!?!” when Max marked in third quarter goes straight to the top of iconic MFC commentary moments surely.
  19. Deadset one of the most powerful images I've ever seen in footy.
  20. I hate Geelong with a passion. Like, I properly hate them. Tune it and barrack hard against them every week. I've never felt physically ill before a game until yesterday because of this. Last night (and Rd 23) have just about made my life complete. Max Gawn is literally the Demons GOAT.
  21. My everlasting memory of the COVID pandemic will be this 2021 Melbourne team. I'll remember Gawn's goal to the day I die. It's a yes from me.
  22. The Channel 7 one is brilliant. Really captures the pain we've all felt as fans over the past 20 years especially. Am I right in saying a few of the fan snippets were from Round 2, 2013 after the 150 point defeat to Essendon?
  23. Anyone know what his contract status is? Turns 30 before next season commences but is coming off two AA-level seasons (robbed of one jacket) and surely has many good years left in him. I could even him playing the next 2-3 as the team's full back, then another 2-3 in the Hibberd role or even the Salem role. A 35-year-old May would still be good enough for AFL footy.
