2021 List and Contract Details
DistrACTION Jackson replied to Lucifers Hero's topic in Melbourne Demons
I don't quite understand this. We've now lost 8 players from our overall list and gained 1. How does that equal 4 extra spots? -
2021 Player Reviews: #10 Angus Brayshaw

He's a heart and soul type player. Just love the way he speaks about his role and the club. Executes his role to perfection. -

I think we will definitely select him in the draft. Just seems to be the type of player we would love, hard working and driven. He will also have plenty of time to develop in the VFL and learn off some fantastic players. I reckon he will be bid on in the 40-60 range and we will then match. -
2021 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
DistrACTION Jackson replied to TRIGON's topic in Melbourne Demons
Well at least we can easily get him back in 2 years time....... -
Further to my point above, if I'm Melbourne I consider legal action to re-coup economic damages from the AFL for the time and money spent developing players. Further, we also challenge the ruling in this situation. I'm a bit disappointed we haven't done something like this. Might sound extreme but why shouldn't? The AFL have moved the goalposts after the fact and in such a short time period we are unable to adjust.

It's typical AFL knee jerk reaction. I don't want to make this a 'race' type discussion, but I find it strange that the indigenous players are included within the rules with players with international backgrounds. Indigenous Australians are ingrained in our game going back 50-100 years. So for example, Jamarra Ugle-Hagan having an indigenous background is very different to a Mac Andrew who moved to Australia as a toddler from war torn Sudan. I think the NGAs are a great way to bring International based kids into the game a reach a broader audience. These kids are more likely to go to soccer if they aren't provided strong AFL pathways. This is where I think the AFL have stuffed up and clubs like Melbourne, who have developed a raw Mac should reap the rewards of putting time into these players. So my change would be to do the following: 1. Indigenous Australians to be removed from the NGA as options within either the top 20 or 40. 2. Players who were born outside Australia to be fair game at any pick.

True. But what it does do is provide protection for the club, as we either don't have to trade or can ask for a hefty price or no deal. It's better to have a contract in place than not.

2021 Player Reviews: #6 Luke Jackson

Future goat -
I think he could potentially. Honestly, I think he could play anywhere but I think he is the best ruck/forward in the game. The other player's highlights I saw and who may slide is Josh Sinn. He looks like a very solid player and if he slides to our pick I think we may take him.

2021 Player Reviews: #5 Christian Petracca

Had pressure on him to perform on the biggest stage, with the comparisons to Dusty. He took it all before him, grabbed the bull by the horns and helped bring the cup home. Will become a legend of the MFC, if he isn't already. His maturity as a person and leader is also outstanding and I shed a tear seeing the emotion on his face and how much he loves the club. -
I see Jackson as the greatest utility in the competition. If we need a spark in the ruck he goes there. If we need an outlet kick on the wing he goes there. If we need a pack marking forward he goes there. I just think he's too valuable around the ground to be number 1 ruck. Tbh he could become one of the best key forwards if we really wanted him to stay there, which I don't think we will.

Interested to hear people's thoughts on Toby Conway as a potential option for pick 17? Feel like it would be perfect timing to bring him in and develop for 3-4 years under Gawn before taking the number 1 ruck role once he retires. Watching highlights he seems pretty mobile for a 204cm player.

So they are geniuses for getting enough picks for a father son and trading for Nathan Kreuger and Patrick Lipinski, two fringe players? Seriously Rendell is a complete [censored] and it makes me angry he gets paid for this dribble when people in Melbourne have lost their jobs due to Covid.

I am more than happy to manage his online dating profiles to find the right Melbourne girl for him. Ideally we are looking for wealth bayside family, strong AFL pedigree in the family and a love of unicorns.

The new silk. Love him -
He's a good player, but I don't think we will have the coin for him. Sounds like we will be giving Jackson a decent deal. Plus we will need money for guys like Rivers, Pickett and Sparrow in a year or two. There's only so many A grade type players you can have on a list due to the salary cap and in the middle we have two genuine A+ players in Trac and Oliver.
-
I see Daw as more a ruck/forward type. I know ruckman are hard to find, but there may be a solid mature option out there.
-
Sooooooo anyone know if we are doing anything else? One thing I would like to see is us find a solid ruck back up in a rookie spot if possible.

Number 2 should be reserved for now. Very special number for this club. 22 would look good on him -
2021 Player Reviews: #4 James Harmes

Heart and soul type player. The reports of him trying to sub himself off so James Jordon could play some GF minutes shows his selflessness. Will be an important cog in our push for more flags. -
If this is a drinking game we will all be blotto by the end of the day....

The points stop at pick 73, so anything above that is worth 0. This article explains it well https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/afl-draft-2020-ultimate-guide-how-does-the-bidding-system-work-draft-rules-explained-preview-jamarra-uglehagan-bid-fatherson-players-academy-players/news-story/7da59102bb39f3d8a04cc8d8ae47d9a3 From my understanding you also can't have more picks than list spots now

Not to mention the Dogs had a week off to refresh, which has never happened in the history of GFs. A lot of the commentary prior was that the bye before GF would suit Bulldogs, as they had played more games and wuld be match hardened. Now because they had to play one extra game with some travel, because they lost the right to home finals, they were hard done by. The same could be said for clubs in 2016 who had to play the dogs after the bye helped them actually win a flag. End of the day the best side won, and by a fair margin. -
Gold Coast are a complete rabble.
