  1. That was fairly soon after the incident and he still sounded a bit shaken by it. His Dad has recently come out to say all is forgiven and they want to move on. Also heard Hamish Brayshaw will be organising a meeting between them both to 'move on'. If Gaff wants to become a Dee there will be no issues between him and Angus.
  2. When Gaff was talking about the incident, he mentioned that at the time he did not want to go back out on the field. Given where the game was at, with the Eagles winning comfortably, it is surprising that Simpson and the Eagles player welfare team did not advise him to finish up for the day. The vision of Gaff on the bench distraught, with Simpson trying to talk with him seems to look like he is frustrated that he has to continue playing. Where I am going with this is, I wonder if that will have any impact on his decision whether to stay or leave. If he felt that he wasn't looked after as a player of the Eagles, it may way his decision away from staying there. Drawing a long bow I know but just some food for thought. On a side note, the Eagles as an organisation has had a very poor year off the field in the way they have conducted themselves. From someone who previously lived in Perth, couldn't have happened to a better club, they really are an arrogant bunch of to$$ers!
  3. haha nothing like a little man love.
  4. Agree wholeheartedly. He has been a shocking CEO, constantly fiddling with the game to suit his agendas. I would even prefer Demetriou over this guy, even though he was the one who brought in the expansion teams.
  5. Good on her. The AFL really butcher everything they do. Even with only 10 teams they can't setup a fair fixture! Laughable organisation.
  6. I ran a ladder predictor where the higher ranked side won every game. Due to the unpredictable nature of AFL results I felt this was the fairest way to run the predictor. The results were as follows: 1. Richmond 2. West Coast 3. Collingwood 4. GWS 5. Geelong 6. Hawthorn 7. Port Adelaide 8. Melbourne In the above we would play Geelong week 1 at the MCG (would be nice to get revenge for the two losses earlier in the year). Unfortunately, based on the finishing positions of the sides in the top 4 it would be a tough road to the GF, having to most likely play GWS & West Coast away to make it. Another learning curve for the players to show the importance of finishing as high as possible. If we win all remaining games and every other result was the same we would finish 4th and play Richmond week 1 (we can only dream).
  7. Yeah that's a solid amount! But he average is probably fairly similar to today.
  8. I highly doubt that Harvey and Crawford were running over 30 kms a game...... Where did you get this info from?
  9. The AFL are truly run by morons who don't actually listen to their fans, the ones who make the game! They have brought in rule change after rule change when in reality none of them were required and I don't think anyone had an issue with the game when they started doing this. All they really need to do is change these ridiculous rules: 1) The ruck nomination rule - it's a farce and has caused supporters a lot of grief. Simple change would be to penalise any side that has two players go up for the ruck contest, resulting in no ridiculous free kicks and the ability to ball up much quicker. 2) 10m protected zone - what the hell was wrong with the previous rule used? Did I miss something where every fan was up in arms over players running within 10 metres of the player with the ball? Throw this rule out completely and go back to the way it was. Cheers. 3) Sliding in - please stop paying this when a player has his head over the ball and has a right to get down and pick it up. It is the opposing players duty to ensure their legs aren't in the way. This rule should be reserved for only the worst of sliding into a contest, mainly feet first with the potential to cause injury. If they make these slight adjustments I really don't see much of an issue with the way footy is being played. If they continue to make changes and make the game harder and harder to understand/watch they will lose me and I'll reserve my watching of football t Demons games only and finals.
  10. Pretty big difference between Gaff and Wallis. I get your point though. I'm sure we are going to go hard at free agents this year. We are right in the window so don't need skinny kids, we need to improve our list ASAP to win a flag. I'd like to see us also go after a mature key defender but not sure what the options are.
  11. I agree if we miss finals it would be a choke, however the Geelong side played in a prelim in 2005, so one could say they were actually further advanced in 06 than we are now. End of the day it isn't like for like but there are similarities.
  12. Vanders has had 3 solid games in the twos. Time to unleash him I think. Don't think he can get much more out of the VFL now after 3 matches?? We need his pressure and physicality around the ball. Out: JKH In: Vanders He just has to bash and crash and intimidate the opposition. If he snags a goal or two then that's a bonus.
  13. I think Wagner has to be the man. Plays a similar role and it would be a plug and play move so our structure isn't unsettled, which I think has been the reason for some of our poor results.
  14. How do media personalities get away with making comments based on nothing but their own opinion? The media today is just a cesspool of people trying to be make themselves relevant.
  15. I love Clayton Oliver. It may have gone beyond a man crush..... my wife is starting to get a little concerned.
  16. He would be perfect for our list. doubt he will leave though.
  17. The ratings run over a 40 game period I believe, or something similar. I think we will see Clayton at number 1 in the next few years,
  18. I was looking through the player ratings and noticed that Clayton Oliver has now cracked into the top 10! Outstanding effort for a guy who turns 21 in a couple of weeks!
  19. Our form turned around at the start of the season when Spargo came into the side. Goodwin and Co just have to get the balance of this side right soon, otherwise we are looking at another wasted season. In: Spargo, Garlett, Frost Out: Weid, Petty, Tyson B: Jetta O Mac Hibberd HB: Salem Frost Lewis C : Fritsch Viney Brayshaw HF: Petracca Hogan Spargo F: Melksham TMac Garlett R: Gawn Oliver Jones Int: ANB Harmes J Smith Hannan We need Spargo, Garlett, Melksham and ANB to continuously harass and tackle in the forward half. We need only one of Hogan, TMac & Hannan flying and bringing the ball to ground, the rest need to be ready for the crumb or lock it in. Most of all we need the whole side to get the work-rate back to where it was when we smashed sides, as this was the reason behind those wins.
  20. This thread is dumb. So what a 18 year old key position player had a poor first game. Wow that must've never happened before......
  21. I don't. It happened in the first quarter I think. He kicked at goal and it missed, Gawn was chasing him and slightly touched him after he kicked.
  22. Wow that's bad. Wouldn't have mattered though. The worst of the day was the 'late hit' free to Billings. Gawn hardly touched him it was ridiculous. The 50m penalties also need to be reserved for very clear infringements! They shouldn't just be given out easily.
  23. In: Frost, Spargo, Garlett Out: Petty, Tyson, Hannan Pretty simple really, we lack foot speed and defensive pressure. When Spargo came in we won 6 straight, not sure the reason but I think he contributed with the little things he did. I think Petty will be a solid key back but he's too young. It's do or die for the rest of the season so we need 'experienced' key backs in.
  24. There's the selections for the game and then also selections for roles within the game. This is my take on our side at the moment and where we struggled today: 1) Jack Viney is a midfield weapon, not a tagger! When did Goodwin get the idea that our number 1 mid (still most influential when up and going) should be doing a negating role? It beggars belief and we are shooting ourselves in the footy even before the ball is bounced! If we want to play a hard tag every week why not bring Bugg in for that role? He's got a big tank and loves niggle. Stupid, stupid, stupid. 2) There is no point playing guys who are 'in form' out of position, as they will just find themselves out of form. Dom Tyson is not a wingman, he's an inside mid. If there is no room for him in the engine room then he must bide his time at Casey. We were wayyyyyy to slow on transition today and he is not up to it in that position. 3) We that the most successful side in the compeition at the moment has a lot of small forwards. So what do we do? Play pretty much no small forwards. Garlett and Spargo should both be in, yes I know Garlett isn't tearing it up at Casey, but he's a proven quantity and at least has some speed. 4) This is not a knock on Harry Petty as I am sure he will turn into a fine player for us, but Frost has to play starting next week. 5) Goodwin how about we work on getting our 'press' to a reliable level. Our defence is so bad at the moment I would actually laugh if it wasn't so dire. Glad to get that all off my chest.
