Exactly. If they want to get rid of compo picks there needs to be certain caps put in place, otherwise it will get a lot worse. I actually think we've benefited from free agency so far, Brayshaw and Vince are the best examples. I would be happy to abolish compo picks but there would need to be one of the following enforced: 1) A cap on how much clubs can spend on players e.g. if you finish first you can spend a maximum of $400k per year on a free agent. This then becomes greater as you move down the ladder. 2) No top 4 clubs can participate in free agency (fairly harsh but would help). 3) An age limit on who the top clubs can pick e.g. top 4 sides can only take players over the age of 28. This would go a long way to helping even up the competition.

Did anyone hear David King's idea about Dangerfield going as a free agent and then the clubs swapping picks and players after? What an idiot, it would make a mockery of the AFL's free agency and trade system. Plus he also listed Cory Gregson as an A grade player? He is promising but he is hardly A grade. I agree. Which is why I'd only offer up a 3rd rounder. I think he would be good as a half back flank type of defender. Can play on smalls or mid-sized forwards and also generate run.

That would be a terrible trade. We will likely get the deal done with a 3rd round pick as the Giants have a surplus of mids and need to trim their list further.

I do understand this line of thinking. But the other side of the coin is if we bring in someone like Kennedy we MAY be able to sneak into finals next season. This would then create a snowball effect. We suddenly become an attractive option for players coming back to Victoria, plus we can top of with free agents who want to have a crack at a flag. I think it's more than just what Kennedy can bring for the next few seasons.

It's a hard one. We see guys like Sam Mitchell, Hodge, Harvey all playing career best footy well into their 30's. Of course there is a lot of other players who start to struggle as soon as they are 30. We could possibly get 5 very good seasons from him, which you are never guaranteed from a draft pick. Edit: Plus with free agency now we just need to make top 8 with our promising youngsters and we will find lots of other players will want to join. We just need to get into that 5-10 range and it will be so much easier to attract other players.

Definitely think Barlow has been found out this season. I'd like to see VandenBerg clean up his disposal slightly but he will never be an ultra skilled player. His place in the side will be to bring physicality around the contest and to kick opportunistic goals.

Could be our 'enforcer' moving forward. Set the tone with physicality and I remember against the Dogs he had them jumping at shadows. Really positive of what the future holds for him.

Being originally from Perth this Grand Final is a lose-lose for me. 1) The eagles win and I have to hear about it for months from moronic Eagles supporters who claim that the fact their club had +349 free kicks over the last 4 years is because they are first to the ball. 2) The Hawks win their 3rd in a row, Frawley gets a flag after jumping ship and I have to hear about how great the Hawks are from the people at work.
