  1. Towards the end of his first season, I told my mates Cale Morton would win a brownlow one day.

    Beat that!!

needless to say i had to find new mates

I also keep believing the many re-builds we have had will work

also, im still cut about Scully leaving even though he is an average player

man, its good to get all that off my chest!

  2. I reckon our double ups aren't bad outside of Hawthorn. Collingwood and Saints won't be that good (though playing Saints twice at Docklands hurts - although we did play better against them there than at the G this year...), we usually match up well against Port and Gold Coast will only be thereabouts. At least we don't play Freo or West Coast twice and I'd rather Collingwood than Geelong or the Dogs I think.

guess we wait and see but I reckon Pies are locks for the 8 after their recruiting. and port are due for a big year

  3. I used to console myself with the dodgy fixture when at least it gave us a plying advantage. but 2 games against garenteed top 8 sides and GC is not good. we will have to improve a bit to win the same number of games as last year and improve a lot to win more

and the fact that not all teams have played each other by round 18 makes the AFL a friggen laughing stock

  4. Hopefully we get to play both of the Queensland teams twice, which should equal four wins and two easily accessible games for you.

getting a little ahead of yourself i reckon. both teams absolutely shafted with injuries last year,

GC if fit should finish higher than us and push for finals. we should beat the bears though

  5. we should go through the 6-7 possibles to draft and filter them by:

    • manic competitiveness
    • strong mentally
    • willingness to work hard

only the ones who tick all the boxes should be looked at further for their skill/talent.

I think we can all say Watts/Toumpas/Silvia etc would not make it through this checklist. Talent only gets you so far, it is the driven players like Selwood, Fyfe who become stars. I doubt their draft camp stats were off the charts

  6. im expecting the same as the last few years. very easy draw football wise but poor financially.

start off with a lot of saturday games at the G. second half of the season is all sundays

another friday night would be nice.

  7. What if they have traded away their first rounder, second rounder and a player to get those third rounders?

Because that is what the Swans did.

But, yeah, who cares. Why let facts get in the way of a preconceived notion?

If you trade away your first rounder and someone bid in the first round you should lose the player. That would be fair.

And I could do without the condescension

  8. As opposed to the old system where they get that same player for just their next pick? e.g. Heeney.

The system has a couple of flaws, but is a lot fairer.

I think it fairer for a team to have to use their first rounder rather than several third rounders.

  9. Essentially, they can get a top 3 player by using multiple third rounders. A bit like if we were able to get Brayshaw by using picks 45, 47 & 49 (hypothetically).

Like it or not, that's the new system. It's up to you whether it's an improvement on last year's situation: drafting the best midfielder with pick 17 alone.

The system seems like madness. Getting one of top 3 players of the year for some third rounders?

The majority of third round picks come to nothing.

Sydney won't be out of top 8 for the next decade at this rate

  10. Last year Sydney got the best midfielder in the draft for Pick 18, we had to pay Pick 2 and Pick 3 for similar talents.

This year Sydney will do it again, but this time they will pay with 33, 36, 37, and 44 and while one might say that that is not making them pay enough - it has forced them out of the draft till Pick 54.

The best midfielder in the draft again and they don't even have to use a pick in the top 30

    Sounds completely fair!

  11. A team that 'bids' on a Northern State Academy player, or a Father/Son player, will make the team that wants to keep that player pay a certain price through draft picks rather than just be allowed to use their next available pick.

All the picks in the draft up to 72 have points attached to them to determine how many picks they must 'give up' to take that player.

For example, if Sydney had a player that was worth Pick 1 - Carlton would bid on him with Pick 1. Sydney would then have to surrender all the picks they have to meet the equivalent amount of points as Pick 1.

    How's that?

Not bad. Think I'm getting there.

    Thanks

Still sounds needlessly complicated but it is the Afl

  12. the 3 of them are in our best 32, given they have experience. I wouldnt call any of them locks for our first team if we somehow had no injuries.

I hope they can prove me wrong but I dont rate any of them too highly. they are still young though.

to say they are better than players we just delisted does not prove anything. I guess it proves they would have played a few games last year. hopefully we get a better run at it injury wise and play out best team

  13. Which A grader could we have got? Do you think we didn't try? Reality is the A graders didn't want to come to us so we couldn't get one.

And who says we've finished moving out the dead wood as you've so politely described them? There are more list lodgement dates. Or are you suggesting we should have traded out the dead wood? If it's dead wood it don't trade.

A B graded would have been nice at least. we ended up with just C graders with hopefully some potential to be B grade

a lot of good players were traded and its pretty disappointing we didnt land any.

Im staggered a lot of people are rating our trade period as 'couldn't have been better'. Trading picks and getting 2 top 10 was the only real positive I can see. but I guess it is the off season, time to be positive

  14. The trading of the picks was very good. but I rated it average overall.

we still have a massive gap in our midfield as far as B+ and A talent goes. we also need a quality tall forward and outside class on the wing.

we brought in 3 young midfield types who have underwhelmed so far in their careers but hopefully one of two of them will turn into good players but hardly anything to get excited about.

this is not a rating of the recruitment staff or the club just of what was brought in. not much you can do when all the quality players dont want to come to us!

I guess we roll the draft dice again and hope for good luck

  15. Toump gone for pick 50. Reasonable price given his output and lack of potential

Kennedy and pick 29 for Howe is okay. Hopefully Kennedy can show it to be a win.

We certainly won't miss either player next year. Howe was absolute trash in at least 15 games this year.
