His strengths are kicking for goal but not Markng?

He isn't going to get too many shots at goal if he can't mark now will he?

The point of this thread is that we are in need of a Forward Ruck type , and if Dawes could do it , then it would add value to the team.

I also highlighted Watts doing relief ruck work and he is smaller and slighter than Dawes, so if Watts can do it , why can't Dawes?

i never said he would get lots of shots on goal. Just stating his strengths.

He is not good in the ruck - that is why he can't ruck.

Watts can jump, has good touch. So he was decent

  2. Why can't Dawes ruck?

    Why can't T Mac kick?

Why can't Watts hip n shoulder?

whats the point of this thread? different players have different skills.  Dawes' strengths when fit are leading, kicking for goal, tackling, leadership. Not marking or ruck work. he just rucks when there is noone better to do so

Stef had some days out as a link up fwd if I remember correctly.

Stef has proven over the past 5 years he cannot play forward more than 20%.

i honestly dont know if he would get a game at the moment if we had him.  he is average aside from 1st Ruck

Please don't play him on Cloke or Cox this weekend, for god sake.

you could play Ronald McDonald on Cloke and you'd be OK the way he is playing

    58 to 50 inside 50's

    26 to 8 inside 50 tackles

Look at the heat maps, they held the ball in a lot better than us, we need to improve greatly on this cause we did have our chances going forward.

interesting stat. But I think the Hawks defence won the game for them.  They are calm and hit targets and their mids provide options. if you do this, it is hard for fwds to lay tackles.  on the other hand if your defender plays a bad handball that puts a defender under pressure that will lead to 3-4 tackles in a row.

still think our fwds could do better with pressure but the main issue is ball use at the back and mid spreading

  6. out of the 22 each week, maybe 5 defenders and 3 actual forwards? Hoges, Garlett, watts

the rest are 'midfielders'.  thats 14 for one game

we ceratinly need more quality mids. more Isaac smith types

  7. I think Pedo was playing okay before he went out.  7 games, 5 goals, ave 14 touches, 2 tackles.  not great stats.  but he did provide a target, took some marks and put some physical pressure on.  so he was playing well enough to keep his spot (just) but not well enough to be automatic in (in my opinion)

im happy to see what Dawes can provide - assuming he has his body right! regardless of how dawes plays, I reckon he will be in for a few weeks

regardless a quality KPF/2nd ruck should be on the list for a trade target.  Hoges is doing it on his own with help from Watts

  8. GO JT, ill be whipping out the old woolen #9 jumper for saturday!

his last game was against WC 30 Mar 2014 where we scored 30 points and WC scored a lazy 123.  hopefully a better result coming up!

He has only played 2 AFL games in almost 3 years!

ill back the team to play for him.  this team Roosey has put together is no longer soft, it will put up a fight out of respect for JT

  9. The thing is.... there is always a chance.  At least this year there is.

given how the season has gone, almost beating north, beating GWS and losing to Essendon - anything is possible.

For the first time since 2008, the hawks are showing some cracks. only beat the saints by 3 points and have not put 4 quarter dominant performances in even against freo and brisbane

we will have 2-3 surprising wins yet this year and im tipping this to be one.

Oliver will be back. so 5 best 22 out.  or 4 if you think Garls isnt best 22.   injuries starting to add up but this should be an excuse

Anyone else want to see Vince play on the ball for the full game?  miss his class, toughness and influence

  11. Classic line

The man they really missed this week was Clayton Oliver.... His ability to stand in traffic and dodge tacklers like Neo avoiding bullets in The Matrix until the right option appears would have added much needed calm to a side who responded to Port’s pressure like they were evacuating a burning building.

I am starting  campaign to bring back Jack Grimes.  At the moment only Nev Jetta seems to have clue about how to play properly in our backline.  Jack may have suspect disposal but he is courageous & knows how to stick close to dangerous forwards - time to bring him back.

unfortunately our game plan is not to stick close to forwards.  this zone is doing my head in but I guess it is natural for a big cghange like this to take some time for the defenders to adjust to.

Grimes has certainly done enough to get a run. if viney is out, id bring him in.  his leadership and experience will be handy against the Hawks
