  1. I agree. His drop off in form over the year has been disappointing.he has issues with consistency at the crows which is why they let him go id say.

Maybe it's the move to the backline?

But he is getting caught on the ball and looks slow which is very concerning

I am bewildered by posters that say Pedo is not a part of the future. He has played well in every winning game we have played with him in the side. He takes strong contested marks and is a more reliable shot at goal than most of the forwards in our side. It actually annoys me that we just write him off. Weed wont be a game breaker from Rd 1 next year. We need some back ups ...Cut the bloke some slack.

completely agree. I think we will target a tall fwd/2nd ruck but good ones are hard to find

so I can see Pedo playing for 2 more years to help Weeds/Hoges/Hullet.  thats a young fwd line.  the other think is that Pedo can ruck and those 3 can't/shouldn't.  I also dont think Watts can ruck (pushed off the ball very easily yesterday) but he has to at the moment

Pedo might be 29 but he is young as far as games played so hopefully his body holds up

  3. actually if we want to treat this game as giving some experience/trying new things, it would be good to see Hullett play for Weeds.  JKH has got himself right and I think deserves a kicks and play Speno (worked last time at the Cattery)

  4. yesterday wasnt about personnel or tactics for me.  it was attitude.  Somehow, in typical Melbourne fashion we went in without being 100% switched on.

I could tell within 3-4 minutes we would lose - just like it was clear within 3-4 minutes against the Hawks that we were up for it and would push them. they literally walked the ball forward for the first goal in 30 seconds.  we werent even trying. the culture/attitude issues have improved but are still there and this should be the main focus as we will never win anything if we are soft mentally - expect the LG next year to reflect some change in this area.  Goody will pick players who front up and have self belief

im not even that annoyed as it didnt surprise me.  in some ways id prefer it happened now so we can work on it rather than getting 12 wins and thinking we dont need to change anything for next year

wouldnt surpirse me if we beat the cats next week!

If you look at our winning trajectory, it's actually a lot more similar to Hawthorn's in the mid to late 2000s. Whereas the Bulldogs, you could argue, went backwards for a year before going forwards again. Hawthorn just kept improving. So have we: from 4 wins to 7 wins to 10-12 wins. If we make finals next year we're tracking in closer comparison to Hawthorn's 4 wins to 5 wins to 9 wins to 13 wins to 17 wins (their premiership year).

I think the key difference between the Bulldogs to Melbourne and Hawthorn, is their injury list. You need a lot of luck to go your way to win a flag and at this stage, it looks like costing the Bulldogs a flag this year.

If we can keep our players fit and continue to add quality to the list over the next 2-3 years, we're a serious shot at a flag. It'll come quicker than you think.

So I'd say we're more the Hawks of 2006 or 2007.

    interesting thoughts...

although the hawks 'real' window opened from 2012 when their senior core got to 100-150 games  (you could argue the 08 flag was early) so if we are tracking with them we might have to wait a few years

And you can probably add in St Kilda as a  powerhouse of the future.

not with you on this one.   I dont see the large number of under 23 yo talent that we and dogs have.  I suspect that the Saints will taper off in the next few years and be in no mans land for a while

but then again I may be clouded by my hatred for them  :)

  7. A few people have commented that we are on the up and seem to be like the dogs a couple years back, so I had a look and there are some similarities

Dogs:    they killed it at the draft from 2010 to 2013 - especially 2012 and 2013

    2012   5 wins

    2013   8 wins

    2014   7 wins

    2015   14 wins

    2016   most likely 16 wins

were very poor at time from 2012-2014, but from memory at the end of 2014 starting showing signs and their young players stood up (is that right?)

Dees:  did well at the draft from 2012 -2015 - especially 2014 (for those with a weak stomach do not look at our 2011 draft!)

we all know our pathetic ladder position but now after 7 wins last year and likely 11 this year we are starting to beat good teams and are showing signs with our gun draft picks kicking on

What does 2017 hold?  for the first time in a decade, we have the capacity to make a decent assault on the finals and win more games than we lose.   f-k i cant wait for next year

anyway, back to 2016 and trying to sneaky into 8th spot!

umm... feel free to comment.  cheers.     :-)

I think two important things must happen this weekend. 1) we take care of Carlton. Obviously, by more the better, but a win will do. 5-6 goals would be good enough. 2) a strong Sydney team peaking as they always do in the lead up to the finals with Tippet back in, spank North by 7-10 goals.

I think a Sydney win is almost a certainty. They're brilliant at this time of year. We just have to take care of Carlton, however that happens.

I wish I had your confidence, but I can sense a win for North coming.  not sure why but North are due and will be fired up and its down in Tassie.

what a let down that would be

  9. Can't remember enjoying an away game more  - standing on the hill with the ferals - the stuff getting yelled out was actually quite funny at times

there was a decent turn out by Dees fans - and the Port fans went quiet by 15 minutes in as you could sense how the game would go.

The Casino was pumping with delerious Dees fans after the match.  the last thing I remember is a dude in a Dees scarf getting kicked out of the palace for falling asleep/passing out on a chair

Serious question...... With Frost and OMAC improving quickly and Tommy boy re-signing- Are we all fairly comfortable to leave Hurley alone? How does everyone feel about these 3 being core defenders for the next 5 plus years?

its great that these 3 have come on but we still desperately need some more experience and leadership down back.  Dunn and Garland not being considered anymore. If we get an injury or two to the Macs or Frost we are in trouble.

Hurley can also play key fwd when needed which could be handy

Actually we had a number of poor players. Harmes, VBD, Viney (who was well tagged) and Hogan. Pederson was just serviceable and Watts was well below best. Petracca had little impact as well. Kent only had one tackle and made a couple of huge blunders.

There is a lot of improvement and our side didn't play well IMO. Very happy to win away against a very physical side but I think you are off the money with your comment. I can see Harmes, VDB or Pederson making way.

agree to disagree.   those guys didnt star but weren't lacking effort.

Pedos presence and contest in the air was good - its important to have a big, seasoned body in the fwd line.

Harmes and VDB played their role and have some runs on the board as far as their application to the contest goes. VDB 6 tackles, 5 score involvement, 2 assists did okay IMO and Harmes was good last week.
