From his profile on the Hawthorn website: Adem Yze - Head of Match Day Strategy & Opposition Yze was promoted to Assistant Coach at the end of 2014 after establishing himself as a respected teacher at Hawthorn. Originally, Yze joined the Hawks at the end of 2011 as a specialist coach, working particularly with the forwards on their goal-kicking before being appointed as a Development Coach at the end of 2013. Basically his specialties (kicking skills, kicking for goal, match day strategy) are our weaknesses. Fantastic get.
  2. His k/hb ratio this year was 0.8, compated to 0.6 in 19 and 18, and 0.4 in 17 and 16. So it's a clear improvement. I felt at the start of the year there was a determined effort to kick more. But as we know he was turning it over by foot a lot and was rightly hammered in the media. He turned that around by driving out of the contest with his legs, gaining space and balance and kicking with less pressure. It was effective with his kicking effectiveness increasing dramatically for a 5 week block after that media hammering (starting with the Adelaide game). It isnt a surprise that his kicking was rubbish in the Swans and Freo games. Was that the weather and subsequent game style? Or was he being down on form one of the reasons we lost? His k/hb ratio for the first half of the season (r 1-9) was 0.79, while after that it increased to 0.90, also demonstrating changes in game style. Interestingly, his kicking efficiency has been very similar over the last 3 years, but in 18 and 19, it was much more consistent between games, where in 20 in went up and down (which kicking ~20% more). Potentially showing he was trying something different. Sounds like he is getting the coaching he needs.
  3. Dominating finals isnt a requirement, because not all players play finals. He has only played 5 seasons since being drafted. In each of the last 4 years, he has had more disposals than any othe MFC player has ever had in the history of the game. He has had the 1st, 4th, 3rd and 3rd most contested possessions in the comp in the last 4 years. He has had the 6th, 9th, 3rd, and 10th most disposals in the comp in the last 4 years. He has had the 7th, 13th, 3rd and 8th most effective disposals in the comp in the last 4 years. He has had the 5th, 7th, 3rd, and 6th most tackles in the comp in the last 4 years. He has had the 1st, 3rd, 4th and 7th most clearances in the comp in the last 4 years. These are the stats that are relevant to midfielders. He is comfortably in the best 5 midfielders in the competition. It would be arrogant if he said he couldn't get better full stop. He hasn't said that. And neither did I. He doesn't need "better coaching" to get there. It is ridiculous of you to claim he doesnt have good coaching, when he has been able to be able to develop this well.

  7. He is already top 5 midfielders in the comp and arguably our best player of the last 30 years. Coaching isnt holding him back.
  8. I am wondering if this is why there are rumpurs of Mahoney out, Richardson into GM Football. But concerned that Richardson might not actually be the right guy for that role.

I look at it lole this: -It is a membership of a club, not a season ticket to a corporation owned entertainment entity. -Look at our financial statements: any equity is listed as "members funds". The club management can't legally use those funds for any other purpose than pursuing its constitutional objectives. - I become a member so I can influemce the direction of the club through electing its management. (Im aware we havnt had many options recently, but thats on us). -I become a member to pursue the objectives of the club. - Part of being a member is participating by watching games, but the base access to home games is a perk of membership only, it isnt what the actual membership is for - I understand that there is a "premium" component associated with upgraded memberships, reserve seats, access to rooms and othet services. I can understand that people could expect these to be refunded as they arent delivered. Or the cost could be considered a donation. That's fine. - If it was a season ticket to the AFL Commission owned GWS or GCS, I would certainly expect a full refund. Those entities are not member owned in the same way and the AFL Commission could pull the pin any minute.

  13. Are there many taller in the AFLW? You would expect she may grow a bit more too.
  14. Bannan is a 178 cm forward, Caris a 190 cm ruck and Simmons a 186 cm winger. I think we only had 3 above 178 cm before (Pearce, Cunningham and Zanker), with only another couple above 170, so this is an interesting shift. Has the draft pool got taller, or was this our target? I wonder if we are looking to move the game more aerial to control the ball, as opposed to the comtested ground ball style that has been promimate?

  16. This is the part that took me the longest to prep that post: searching for role like this but I couldnt find it. The CFC structure has a GM - Consumer Buisness which covered membership. Melbourne Victory lists membership under its GM-Commercial. We. Dont have the break down so hard to confirm. I think BD is more likely related to sponsorship type partnerships and Chief Commercial Officer will cover memberships, events etc. but they could both fall under BD. A lot of fan engagement would actually fall under media/comms.

He had also had 2 seasons (2017and 2108), that (disposals, clearances and tackles wise) were statistically the best seasons from a MFC player EVER. That contact wasn't low balled. He is on less than Gawn (captain), and similar to May, Lever and Viney (after FA) , and probably Petracca (who had a break out year, which Oliver had in 2017). The AFL rich list had his as our 2nd highest paid player. This. Its 1 vote per game when the average votes is about 16. All it tales is 1-2 games where you poll a touch lower and that difference occurs.
  20. This shows why Josh, although accountable for the footy department, really has not much to do with day to day operations. He can be a great operator, but his responsibility is to put the right people in place, and assign the resources correctly, to enable us to deliver on field. Josh could make great decisions and be a fantastic manager but the pieces below him not work. He could pick the best coach available, but that coach isnt good enough. Is that his fault? He could pick a good enough coach, but the players get injured, or the draft outcomes are average. Is that his fault? Ultimately yes, but its hard to really pin it on him, unless he is making questionable calls. There is a reason he was considered for the CEO role, and its because he is a corporate manager, not a football department staff member. It also makes me concerned about the idea of moving him on and Alan Richardson taking the role. It is a specialist management role, and I'm not sure Richo has the appropriate skills or experience. However it wouldnt surprise me if this is about managing the soft cap. If Richo is on a largish salary, moving him to GM Football may take his salary out of the soft cap, but still allowing him to continue to mentor or share knowledge. The club has a turnover of about $50 million per year and $12mil of that is AFL player salaries. A large part of the other $40 mil is staff costs. Someone needs to manage those staff and teams
  21. I think if that happened they would both still answer to a GM of Football, not to Pert. Pert doesnt manage the football department, he manages the club. If he had to coordinate and manage reporting from the Manager Football and from the Manager Football Support, he would have to be involved in the department. I can find evidence of people filling the following positions at MFC (website, news releases, demonland, LinkedIn), most of who would be direct reports to Pert: -CFO and Head of Major Projects -Chief Commercial Officer -GM of Football and Casey Operations (Mahoney) -GM of Marketing, Comms and Digital (Ryan Larkin) -GM of Casey Football (Peter Maynard, may report to Mahoney, I'm not clear, but unlikely to have a GM report to a GM) -GM of People, Performance and Culture (Jim Plunkett) -GM of Business Development Below the GMs are a series of "Head ofs" and "Managers", for things like membership, IT, events, media and brand, partnerships and fundraising, digital sales, digital gworth, HR.   22. Do you really think the game wasn't looked at at all? We had played a great 2-3 months of footy, inc 4 "must win" games in a row. We went to Perth and it was clear we got smashed all over. Nothing worked, we had no winners. We were clearly fatigued, flat footed, and carrying a ton of injuries. What did you want them to take out of the review? Should they sat the players down and given them a spray? They already kmow they let themselves down. Should they have dissected it play by play and pointed out the mistakes? The game was played so far off expectations that wouldnt have added value. Should they have thrown everything that worked the last 12 weeks out the door because of the bad day? We made changes. 9 players left the club (Vince, Pedersen, Bugg, King, McKenna, Filipovic, Johnstone, Kent, Hogan). We went and got a big KPD to fill a hole (May) and got a capable back up ruck (Preuss). We rolled the dice on a free winger (KK). What else did you want them to do?
  23. Especially given from very early and for most of the year the media was beating the Neale will win the Brownlow drum. The umpires would have to hear that. Does it increase their notice of him, or do they look past him while trying to manage their internal bias?

Look this is a pretty average post. 1) with no exposed u18 form, a comprised draft, no first round pick, and Lockhart and Brown as potential rookie upgrades, we are not bringing in lots of players from the outside to fill roles this year unless they are FA. 2) Its been reported OMac is on the way out, so we do need coverage for a 3rd defender (or even a May, Lever injury), with Tomlinson likely to be trialled on wing on the bigger, wider MCG, and Petty showing promise forward. 3) One year for Smith simply provides that cover. 4) Next year the soft caps are reducing, and we will be down on coaching structures. A player / coaching role for Jones is a way to allieviate this, while also having cover on field if needed. Do I think he'll be the best coach? No. But he'll be better than no coach. It's actually a pretty innovative option. What do you want them to do? Dump everyone to prove they are ruthless then try our luck with pick 80+ in the draft?
  25. I think it's important to have a few experience players as depth as well as kids. If we have injuries, it is good to be able to replace some holes with 100 game players, instead of having 5 kids in their first few years.
