  1. no idea about the youth block buster game. perhaps he is talking about drumming up blockbuster status for games including two very young developing sides (ie bottom of the ladder). along the lines of, 'one team has to win' perhaps? ie canberra, as much as i dont want to see it, if selling 3 games a year there for the next three years can allow us to effectively wipe out our debt i as a member would agree to it. in return i would hope for reciprocal access to matches, and hopefully the afl can treat us like some of the other big clubs and only give us 2-3 other interstate matches so we can still see the dees in melbourne. (ie hawthron sell 4 to tassie and play 4 other interstate. collingwood play 4 interstate, and amazingly manage 11 in a row in melbourne at one point) if we dont get the reciprocal games everyone should just get out there and buy a 17 game membership to get into the others anyway. out of interest, how much of the 300k profit would the reciprocal entry cost us do you think?
  2. PRF thats exactly the same as what is was around us. the apparently had no concept of what they were shouting for. JJC i thought we got a few more free kicks than them, but also noticed a hell of a lot of ours seemed to be paid as frees to advantage, i would to see stats for that. but when discussing the umpiring after, i couldnt really think of more than one or two incidents where richmond could have gotten an extra free kick. while the free kick count was slightly lopsided did the umpires actually miss many?
  3. i was thinking about this the other day....with the state of our list, especially player ages, and the retirements that we will have at the end of this year, can we afford to trad eour last 3 or 4 players with more than 100 games experience?
  4. no thats fair enough. i happy for people to buy memberships for family and friends, or the disadvantaged with the aim of taking them along to the footy every year. but i cant see the point in everyone buying memberships in their dogs name, or doubles in their own name, and not use them. bump the membership to 35k is great, but if we're still only getting 20k to games it doesnt help. and what we want to do is make the new members sustainable. are we going to boost our membership numbers for a single year before dropping back down? i think that could cause pain in the medium term when they drop.
  5. i'm sure if someone had the specific recipe then every club would be well on the way to producing 22 stars. i think it is a combination of natural skills, athletic abilities, drive and endeavour and work ethic combined with the right coaching and motivation, and often a splash of technology and development. also i think there is a whole lot of luck that has to go into it. consider a range of afl stars from the past decade. they range from you tall athletic freaks, some have strength, some have agility. some were short and slow with great hands, some had all the time in the world and could pinpoint targets others never saw. some stars had pace to burn to break the lines, others have strength in their hips to break the tackles. almost all could hurt opposition teams by both hand and foot, and almost all hurt opposition teams on the scoreboard - goal kicking forwards or mids, running defensive players who either set up goals or drift forward and snare a couple, or genuine KPD who will hurt the opposition by preventing their goal kickers from scoring. genuine stars of the game are rarely lazy around the training track. often some are described as needing a rev up by team mates or coaching staff to get the most out of their natural abilities, and this can help them cross the line from potential to star. i think there is definetly an element of right place right time about this development also. if a player is played out of position he might struggle. if a player is competing for a position with another player he may excel and surpass expectations (if he has the drive) or he may struggle and not come on as hoped. remember, lots of players have excelled at afl level after appearing to just go at vfl level...
  6. did he also call out 'i dont pay to watch this [censored]!' ? because when he did i shouted back 'apparently you did'...that shut him up for a bit.
  7. i think the problem we have is 'debt means no profit to work with'. bad debt is money we owe, good debt is money we owe on assets that will increase in value, or make money for us ie property, pubs, pokies. 4.5 mil means we are also paying a large interest bill. we need to eradicate bad debt so that we can then spend money to make money. we cant afford to go 7 mil in debt by borrowing to make money, we need to kill the bad debt first.
  8. well go for it then son. call the club today! or send it to the demonland/demonology 150 club...
  9. i agree re extra members. i dont think fake members is the way to go...
  10. i thought buddy should have gotten nothing. a free against him for high contact, nothing else.
  11. he kicked two from 50 which i thought was insane. i was a big miller fan early but have felt that he got lost and has let himself down at times. but watching him kick goals from outside 50 indicated that he has been working on aspects of his game. i have said for a while now that if he is going to be a player he needs to damage opposition players on the scoreboard. i know that i would love for the opposition CHF to take 10 marks 70 meters out and not kick a goal. but when he can chip in with 3 he becomes dangerous. im not sure he will ever be a player to kick big bags (5 or more) which means i think consistancy is the key for brad. if he can kick 2-3 every week without fail he will become an integral part of our set up. big tall forwards need to kick goals and yesterday he showed he could. unfortunately he has bagged 3 goals twice this year, kicked 10 goals for the season and not kicked any in 6 games. he is averaging .9 goals epr game. his best return per season so far, but unfortunately not good enough for a CHF. hopefully he can lift that to 2 or 3 in years to come.
  12. even better he will kick massive bags against everyone and we'll still lose enough games to finish on the bottom!
  13. with all due respect, its called popularity and mainstream. the more people who use the site, the less quality the discussion. when you get bad threads (such as that brock mclean thread) everyone jumps on and bags the thread out. if that doesnt happen, all the [censored] get in a discuss how bad brock is. its better when there are less members, because there is less trolling. maybe it should be more selective? lol
  14. must of been a survey of foxtel executives...
  15. i think he looks his best when he is using the ball rather than when he is around stoppages.
  16. very interesting point. the reason i thought tuck was so good yesterday was because of his ability to win the ball around the stoppages. his first 3 steps were too quick for mclean and unless the ball went to brock, tuck was away from him. tuck got lots of ball in these circumstances and cleared it out well for his teammates, he also seemed to have an ability to always get a disposal out, even when being tackled. mclean tried to stop tuck. he tried to get in front of him at the stoppages, he tried to run with him around those packs (ie at ball ups) but he didnt manage to keep him quiet. brock got a lot of it, and was among our best no doubt. but there was something missing yesterday that i felt meant he was beaten. but good call re tuck being best on, he certainly couldnt be given the same criteria i used to judge brock. therefore richo prob gets it by default lol
  17. after reading the paper this morning i came on here planning on writing the same thing. i've got no doubt they didnt watch the whole game, and definitely didnt watch it live. which is dissapointing because i thought it was a good game of football. we got beaten for about 15 minutes, and didnt stem the tide. another thing that got me was the snipe about melbourne fans not showing up to support the side. a) it was a richmond home match b ) it was a telstra dome c) it was the worst possible time for anyone to ever watch a game of football. i dont get it i really dont. if the afl scheduled these games so that the tv could run one game into another, fine at least they are trying to make money somehow. but the game wasnt on tv. so it appears that the afl scheduled that game at that time to be awkward. it is like they were trying to reduce attendences. if richmond v mfc was played on sat arvo at the g, or fri night at the g it would have got excess of 40K.
  18. wow. mucho respecto for giving credit where credit is due. (ive had a mexican themed weekend). on another note, im not sure about wheatley...he got a lot of it, but didnt really use it. i thought pj and cj were pretty good. brock gets a lot of it, but his opponent was tuck who i thought was arguably best on today...
  19. that and win collingwood a premiership... oh and assulting opposition players. but otherwise i get your point. you have one captain. not co captains. thats why you have vice captains, and deputy vice captains. and deputy to the vice captains...you get my point.
  20. i'm not sure about everyone else but the irony in that statment is phenomenal. lol a 'noob' is someone new who tends to say/ask dumb things or questions, and ask questions that have been asked lots before, instead of searching the forum. true EB, but they can often give a good indication of where to start. the bowden bros are perfect examples of stats dont matter.
  21. i think perhaps the mfc already has our mfc membership money, but the more mcc people who attend mfc games the more we get. in any case, just swipe both at different gates every week. if 1000 members did both each week thats a total of 11000 extra attendances at home games per year.
  22. ok so you didnt say he was 'crap', but you suggested he was bad enough that he would get dropped from the mfc side. we are bottom of the ladder. what ever words you used can be summarised into saying you thought he was crap. in all honesty i couldnt care a bit for you or your intelligence. i dont need to make you feel welcome and i dont need to be your friend. i was helping you out. your a noob, you obviously need to learn a few things, and your post today, and your subsequent ramblings have indicated you wont be someone worth discussing football with. i really encourage you to do a bit of research and comment on what you find, or cite specific examples. anything that indicates you have some understand or knowledge about what you are talking about. go ahead i dare ya. if you are insightful or spark interesting discussion, people will show your posts and thread a little more respect. at the moment they have done neither.
  23. im not sure buying extra memberships is the answer. this isnt sustainable. if you are considering this i think a better option is to throw the $100 bucks to the club as a donation...
  24. tarzan16, i felt you first post wasnt very well thought out and very immature. i gave you the benefit of the doubt and asked you to get some info to add to the discussion, hoping you might learn a bit on the way. you're new around here and we'd all love to cut you a bit of slack. BUT you need to learn that when you say something you need to be able to back it up a bit. especially if you are as far of the mark as you were. you're subsequent posts indicated you were not worth having a discussion with. i'm happy to give you a second chance. bring up the stats and post them here. tell us what you see with those. even comment on why you think the stats might be wrong. but dont just say that someone is crap. especially when he is prob in our top 3 players, because you're going to need to explain your views.
  25. i think this thread has fast come to an end. a great discussion it was. thanks to everyone for the great discussion in the first 2.5 pages, it was like having the old site back for a while
