  1. reminds me of a great sledge by an english cricketer whos name escapes me. was a surprise selection and when mark waugh had a dig and said along the lines of 'i cant believe you're in the best 11 cricketers in your country' his response was 'probably not, but at least i'm the best cricketer in my family'...
  2. i sit on level two in the southern stand (n8 to 14 i think) and occassionally you get an idiot in there but not often. its worth paying that bit extra to know you'll be with mfc supporters only...
  3. well that would be hypocritical as well because he also said what made WC such a good football club was because of all the hard stuff they had had to do over the years re travelling etc. collingwood get to play in big matches, that should prepare them for the finals...
  4. i think there are some basic rules that need to be followed. never kick short to the pocket, unless that is the only option. if the short option is taken you then need a quick switch to the other side of the ground to ruin the zone that has been set up around you. always take the first option that presents, and never kick it so the player can mark flat footed. force the player to run onto it a little bit, it stops the spoil from behind. likewise if your team mate is struggling for an option, run hard. it doesnt matter where you are running too (preferably space or towards the boundary) but if you run hard, the kick can be put in front of you. if you are standing flat footed the kicker has no choice where to kick it. kick long and straight if we have the advantage of numbers, never if we are outnumbered. that means we need talls to mark and shorts to crumb, not 3 big talls to drop the mark. if in doubt some one needs to come in and sheppard the man on the mark and the player needs to play on and kick long to the wing boundary line. if the players know that is where it is going they can run to position instead of trying to present short. kick it into space over heads and let the players run onto it, or kick it so it can be punched out. dont kick to a contest inside the opposition 50. sound fair?
  5. i know they missed their share, but i felt like we missed them from set shots 30 meters out rather than from on the run or difficult angles. i could be wrong, but i felt like we missed some easy ones. and perhaps missed a few that we shouldnt have had shots at (see yze) but instead should have passed to open players...
  6. i thought he had a good point that we need to be able to get up most weeks and not just for the big games. he then conceded that his team got up for the biggy against geelong but wernt as good today. hypocrite. however, i think what he failed to realise is that the rivalry between these two clubs is much bigger and older than any other in footy. "It is different - it's a judgmental day, I will certainly be judging players on their capacity to play before a big crowd and the occasion," he said on Wednesday. is a quote from malthouse before the anzac day match...that sort of suggests he thinks certain games are different. i think we have been slightly misquoted however. i think the game is always a big one, in the same vein the anzac day match is, because of the crowd and the stage etc. however in the context of our current season, this match means a lot more, simply because of a) how much we hate collingwood, and b ) the 150 heros dinner sat night and c) we wont be playing finals
  7. its horrible. ive also sat at caulfiled racecourse on melbourne cup day, during the fkn cup, doing exams. the wrong bloody racecourse! not as bad as missing queens birthday tho...
  8. i'll forgive you for that, given you wouldnt have seen my above post. i dont miss a game. i play rugby and i dont play when mfc play on saturday. i work sunday arvos, ive had my roster redrawn so i can start at 5, and organised with the boss to be late on days we play at TD. ive taken next sunday off as annual leave so that i can attend the game. dont question my commitment without knowing the facts.
  9. no i mean, i had an exam. 230pm. 3 hours. caulfield racecourse. a fkn joke.
  10. i think he;s a cheap player and i cant believe he's been offered a reprimand for an early guilty plea. what a fkn crock of [censored]. seriously? if that was moloney or miller they'd get 6...
  11. was there any injury to warnock? i only saw the game on video replay (bloody uni exams!) but my dad said he wasnt on at the end?

    Newton

robbo said on mmm that newton has a knee injury that no one was quite sure what was wrong, despite the treatments it was just still playing up and they couldnt get it better. hopefully they have it figured out...

did holland say if he was injured or playing today?
  14. i hope we dont bring in holland. a little bit of rain means it could be easier on the smalls. who will be over 190 in our forward line? hopefully we will go with green, sylvia, wonna, and leave PJ on the bench...force collingwood to line wakelin and presti up on smalls or leave them on the bench, restricting their rotations. they need their run, and if they have talls on the bench it will interrupt it. small forward line means we have to have other avenues to goal, but we can ruck white and PJ around the ground for a little and then have PJ drop forward and create a mismatch, before they can reallign the numbers. just an option.
  15. maybe there should be a 150 list for those who arent good enough to get on the 'List of One' which would consist simply of Jako?
  16. what a poor argument. last i heard of hoppy he was chasing ostriches...
  17. i think stynes is qualified for the job. remember that president/chairman is a different role than CEO. we have macca on board for the business side of things, we need a president with a profile. we need a president who will come out and tell the afl to back off. we need a president who will unite the club. i think the stynes faction could well bring 'the club' together, past players, split groups etc... i dont want blood, so i hope its smooth. but there have been rumbles about PG for a while. how long does he have left if stynes doesnt replace him now? 6 months? 18 months? if we have a group ready to go, now might be a better option.
  18. out of interest here, franklin may be off the page RE his off field efforts but what was he like on field? my understanding was that he worked reasonably hard, and still did team things like shepherds and little knock ons to other players even when he was struggling, not geting the footy or kicking goals?
  19. ok obviously there are issues such as injuries, and obviously H isnt an oracle (although if the oracle is around and knows the future, he/she is more than welcome to comment here ). but H spoke about potential up side to NN. now for example, we have all seen and heard about newton and he's upside. he was a punt that at this stage hasnt come off. i was asking, from what H has seen, read and heard, does NN have attributes that will help him fufill potnetial. you have just answered my question. he is hard working etc which suggests he has more potential to fulfill his potential than a player who has some attitude problems, struggles with some things (ie an outside player who needs to be given the footy might struggle to fufill potential at afl level because he cant get enough of it). so what i was wondering about was the 'likelihood of fulfilling potential'. obviously external factors like injuries cant be considered, unless it is known that he has particular injuries concerns ie dodgy knees that could affect him...
  20. haha fair enough...i spose you can only comment on what you've seen...at least your honest about it and dont claim that either you've seen everything or that everything you've seen are the only things worth seeing.
  21. thats really not a surprise when you consider what you wrote in the other thread about the best players you've ever seen...lol probably on the selection committee
  22. just wondering if anyone here knows of footage of NN in action floating around on the web anywhere? i havnt seen him play but would like to have a glimpse... Hannabal, you seem very decisive that NN will be the number 1 pick, and you're normally pretty spot on with your judgement of players. so i am wondering, you have said that he is a risk with a massive upside...do you think he'll make it? or do you think we simply have to take the risk because if it works the outcome will be amazing? and also, what sort of player do you think he'll become, ruck or forward? tall mid? how do you see him playing? i realise you've seen only two games, but thats two more than i've seen...
  23. well i hope we'll all be invited to your 12 birthday party? you cant think anyone would take you seriously when you discuss who the best player ever is and you've watched about 5 seasons of football?
  24. one of the big things that stink about this is the queens birthday has been a melbourne-collingwood tradition for years. half a century or more. it is a true tradition. more so than anzac day, more so even than that 'last saturday in september'...is nothing sacred in this game? and is there any chance that we would be compensated for the removal of our biggest fixture? the CBF is present for a reason, to equate the unfair schedule that the afl call the 'draw'. by making this draw even more lopsided will the disadvantaged teams be compensated? in any competition the draw should be fair and equal. equal home games for each, equal share of days and times to play matches, unbiased arrangement of opponents. the afl have chose to 'rig' this for the greater good -maximised profits. fair enough. BUT the clubs that have their opportunities taken away from them need to be fairly compensated as it is their sacrifices that allow the afl to achieve maximum profits. i realise we have long moved past the suburban competition but the afl is still there to look after all 16 teams equally, not to make the rich richer and the poor poorer. i think the clubs need to take some of the power back from the executive unfortunately...
  25. anyone read yesterdays sun? robbo said he expects to play for another 3-4 years so he will be doing his best to get back to full fitness. with all respects to the man, robbo coming back from an achilles injury age 33 could be a scary prospect...
