  1. I'm not going to rule out that this is a smoke screen for another player. It's not like Roos for this kind of talk to leak out, nor for him to comment about it in the media.
  2. Any deal with Danger going to Colonwood falls apart if they have to use 8 on Moore, which looks likely. Besides, something seems pretty toxic there at the moment. Not saying we're went better in our current state, but I'd rather mentor under one Paul Roos than ten Nathan Buckley's.
  3. Have to say GWS have an... interesting recruitment strategy. Just endlessly taking the top draft picks every year by constantly trading themselves into the high end of the draft by tossing out players like Dom Tyson. Not sure it'll take them up the ladder very fast, but they've become a treasure trove of talent if you have the picks to trade them.
  4. If Roos is jetting off halfway through the trade period for 3 weeks, where does that leave us with the Frawley compensation?? Very confused. Unless he's already done most of the work and it's just a matter of formalities now.
  5. All these sudden articles and trading Danger, and now Roosy publicly declaring he wants him, and Danger refusing to comment when asked directly...... It's.... happening?!??
  6. Saints, just stick to the rebuild and do it properly. Just about the only teams interested would be GWS and the Bulldogs for vastly different reasons.
  7. Yes Saints, that makes lots of sense. Give yourselves a year less for your Riewoldt successor to work under Riewoldt. Take best available this year then be strategic next year instead of taking best available. Um, what? Key forwards don't grow on trees and they take years to develop. You're shooting yourselves in the foot if you pass on the cream of this year's crop of talls for a speculative but promising midfielder. The draft has shown year after year that quality midfielders go deep.
  8. Seems all but confirmed we're going after him but don't think anyone knows if it's a done deal. Lots of rumors and potentially smoke screening.
  9. Geez, I know I'm dreaming but just imagine an off season with recruits like Danger, Mitchell, Malceski and Lamumba. And that would be from just picks 2 and 3 (assuming Sydney package M&M and Colonwood trade Clark for Lamumba). Back to real life now!
  10. We have plenty of room in the salary cap but I doubt we actually have the ability to pay it.
  11. On what grounds would the AFL grant us an ambassadorship? As I understood it (although we all know they make it up as they go) you only get them for signing marquee players to assist the expansion of the game into non-heartland markets. Ergo, NT...
  12. Interesting but probably rubbish post on BF forums: "The Demons have been approved for an AFL "Ambassador" payment to a big name like Dangerfield or Pendlebury etc. to eb paid outside the cap, similar to what buddy was going to get at GWS or Judd at Carlton. This is why they haven't been granted the priority pick, they are practically guaranteed to get an elite midfielder this year and can effectively double the offer of any other club." Could this possibly be some kind of NT ambassadorship to support the expansion of the game with our push into NT? In a way it all makes sense, especially PJs supposed request for financial rather than draft assistance. Lots of speculation though so who knows.
  13. Yeah, also intimated how handsomely paid he was for "doing us a favour", very sarcastically. Looked none too impressed and obviously knows more than he'd ever say outright on telly.
  14. This doesn't inspire me with confidence: AFL set to review free agency rules including the scrapping of compensation picks The earliest compensation will be announced is Tuesday October 14. If we haven't traded pick 2 for anything in the first week, it would be a strong indication the pick 2 & 3 deal is true (and we're forced to wait for compensation to be revealed to announce the trade). But yes, it makes me fairly nervous as well. I'm assuming they'd agree to terms and then wait for the outcome. This is probably why the club has gone to the AFL asking what compensation we'd receive in scenarios x, y and z. Roos has indicated he's expecting pick 3, and the PP announcement today pretty much confirmed to me that's coming. From the AFL's perspective, when they're under so much pressure to scrap FA compo altogether (which would be a disaster for us), if we landed a PP and pick 3 for Frawley (after last year's Buddy compo fiasco) the [censored] from other clubs would almost definitely see it scrapped for 2015.
  15. Frost and Lamumba will beef up our defense. The team did pretty well defensively with Frawley as a forward most of the year. Jetta became one of the best small defenders in town with one season under Roos. Let's see what he can do with Frost.
  16. Thank god GWS get a bonus first round pick still this year though. They really need it with those 6 wins, 2 clear of us! God forbid we have one though.
  17. Thank god Eddie is so pure, and Collingwood would never tank nor rort the system to get those "tainted" priority picks. Clearly they're a better team who are totally above that kind of pathetic behaviour. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/did-collingwood-tank-its-way-to-a-flag/story-fncqi979-1226440468746
  18. You mean, the progress he has made under an MFC devised fitness program, under the direct supervision of the MFC fitness manager? Go join the rest of the soft tissue injury brigade then Clark, you [censored].
  19. Yeah, this whole situation gets really ugly if Frawley doesn't GTFO on day one of free agency. If he drags his heels until the week after, it means we have NFI what compensation we get, which holds up any trades and gives other clubs a chance to swoop on our targets.
  20. Post of the year?
  21. After the results of our Dom Tyson deal last year, I can't even understand how any MFC supporter wouldn't back Roos in to continue trading our top draft picks for established players. It's a complete no-brainer. We have seen high draft pick after draft pick fail miserably and end up on the scrap heap, because we had no seniority in our list to develop them. We've got a 3 or 4 year drafting black hole inside our list now, and this year's delisting of Strauss, Blease and Tapscott round off that sensational period of failure. Bring in players from other clubs from the same years who actually eventuated into AFL-grade players and we might find ourselves in the position we belong. Hawthorn and Sydney did not get to the top of the ladder with picks inside the top 5. They got there by poaching the talent from other clubs, and brilliantly developing their later picks by introducing them to an environment of talent and experience. Roos is trying to do the same thing here, but he needs a few more years to get the system on a roll. 22 Petraccas will not save the MFC.
  22. Not to jump ahead or anything, but Sloane AND Tex are both free agents next year. There's no reason if they love playing together so much, they can't reunite at another club. Especially if Adelaide become a basket case next year due to administrative decision making.
  23. Gotta love the line about how much great young talent we have, including JKH and Salem. Yep, they're SO fantastic that we didn't get a single rising star nomination for the whole year. Oh, and even if we did, Gysberts looked pretty good in his first year too, didn't he? The AFL is absolutely corrupt.
  24. The problem is we're so far down a dark path that when we do finally find any diamonds in the rough, they'll be snapped up by the bigger, more attractive clubs. Players will dread being drafted by us until we can improve drastically. Talent will do anything to get out of our club, ala Clark and Frawley. We need to get out of the cycle, and free agency will make that almost impossible.
  25. If this is true, I think I'll have a heart attack. I literally just can't believe where there's smoke there's fire in this instance. He doesn't seem a money type. We might be able to pay him more than Geelong but I'm so used to nobody wanting to come here.
