  1. What just to satisfy the baying masses that want blood? This will still happen when it has to. How do you know there are not players with injury clouds that need to be considered tomorrow at final fitness test. Your post is very "amateurish" here.
  2. Agree Why finalise a side earlier than you have to? Final 22 named 5pm Friday. Ever think Maric might not have been fit
  3. I dont think its the same comparison. Drink driving legislation applies to the whole population. Prevention of ground entry only applies to people who have been previously banned. Its not the legislation that necessarily works to bring down the fatalities but the impact of the policing of it. I am questioning the effectiveness of policing of hoons banned at grounds. I noticed you cant address the points made. No surprise. You keep saying this "evidence" but it not evidence at all. Just what you are prepared to accept on the basis that others say is true. That's your issue not mine You missed the point. How do you that Hore does not attend events where he was banned? You dont so you dont know whether he has been identified and turned away or not. Its not an issue if he acts up or not. BTW, who said we do nothing? Not I. I just dont think they can ensure someone that is banned from the MCG re entering the ground again at a later date without being spotted. Therefore I have questioned the effectiveness of banning when it cant be policed without lots of money and resources thrown at the problem. Nor are you going to be able to effectively police the banning of a person from a sporting event in this country. Glad we agree on that.
  4. How do you it does work beyond trusting the spin in a press release? You dont Rather than give a simplistic view of how a legal system works consider this. Rules, laws, regulations only work if 1. people are prepared to comply with the laws and 2. that the laws can be adequately policed and monitored. Banning people from sports grounds suffers from both shortcomings. Enjoy your time in Alaska. The question is irrelevant how he behaves at an event if he has been apparently "banned". Just because he has not hit the headlines does not mean he has not breached the banning order and attended the game. And you are right we dont know so what does that tell you about the effectiveness of banning people from a sports stadium? ...They dont know and they keep their fingers crossed in hope that it does. Is that to high attendance sports stadium or a domestic dispute? Even if did getting one or two right does not mean you get them all. If it is the UK, then the issue of crowd monitoring is made somewhat simpler by the fact of the extent of soccer hooliganism and violence that they house spectator groups separately at the ground. They also corral the entry and exit of these supporter groups through different areas of the surrounding town ship. Nevertheless soccer behaviour there has been undermined and stirred by recidivist "supporters" who have been "banned" but still manage to evade crowd control measures to cause social disruption and violence.
  5. And Simon Godfrey would win a Brownlow at the Cats Heath Neville would have been damaging..... Ryan Ferguson would also have been better than Scarlett and Harley put together.
  6. Get the message....... zero. No one lets down Newton more than Newton does. He simply refuses to work hard, commit and contest. Good or better delivery does mask over that Your assessment is a cop out because you cant accept he cant cut it. A sub standard AFL player is a sub standard AFL player in any club. Over the years other clubs seem to be able to cut the chaff earlier than MFC does. In particular on this site, there are posters that bizarrely glorify the ordinary. This is a case in point.
  7. Why? Wheels has a history of soft tissue injuries through out his career. They have mounted up in the past 3 to 4 years. I think he is finished. Isnt Grimes problem a back injury? If so its not a soft tissue injury and has different ramifications for the future.
  8. Newton's attitude to football is so flaky atm that even if he played in the team of the century he would not get a sniff of leather and probably be able to tag himself out of the game completely.
  9. When you have AFL crowds entering the ground from 360 degrees access then how can you legitimately scan up to 100,000 people. Impossible. Its a tool but not a fallible one. Its not the majority of society that is the problem. Most rules/laws would not be necessary because the great majority would never think or act in manner that would make the necessary. However the issue is the fringe minority or the feckless individual who is quite likely to thumb his nose at the law. Many laws pander to people's biases (like the NSW bikie laws) rather than deal with the issue. And that's my whole point. The same comment could be made about anyone who has been banned from a sporting event. We have no way of preventing or knowing if they have attended in breach of the ban. So why except for the PR coverage "ban" anyone? It cant be policed.
  10. There by the grace of God go MFC....... Every time I hear of any anti social, violent, illegal, criminal acts or events involving footballers I wish it was not true and hope to the high heavens that MFC players or officials are not involved. The issues with Sylvia have been small matters in comparison to some others.
  11. I dont see the correlation with the Ox. Ox suffered those knee injuries through unfortunate incidents on the field that had little to do with him playing too early. I understand you dont want Watts battered arounnd too young but that was not the cause of Schwartz's injuries. I agree with you about the development process in place for Watts.
  12. They have approx. 7,000 Tas based members. A team in Tassie is at least 5 years away so Hawks will have good time to try and hold the numbers. The loss of the huge sponsorship money of approx $3.2 million per year would hurt them more. Its money for old rope for the Hawks.
  13. The fact we dont have the quantity or the quality of senior player. We have group of six players that are 30 or thereabouts we then have the next oldest around 25/26 yo. Like I said before they are at best MOR but many are no longer up to it. To give them credit, Junior and Green are busting their boiler to improve. They are just not good enough. Hawthorn are looking at a membership of 45,000+ this year. They have huge sponsorship which they did not have some years. Regardless of what you have think Carlton have done they have swung things around over a number of years. They were terrible up to 2 years ago. At their darkest days, neither Hawthorn nor Carlton had a core group of players to rely on. Both have turned over their lists dramatically. However, I think MFC lowest position was worse than Hawthorn's and probably equivalent to Carlton's lowest point.
  14. I think its there. It needs to be support. I see that spirit in the Mortons, Garlands, Grimes and the Martins. I would like to see that in the Watts, Blease and Strauss. I think Stynes and co have done a good job seeking to address it. It takes time but the seeds are there IMO.
  15. I know how you both feel about that!!! Great post and food for thought for many.
  16. Whats the alternative Iva?? Our senior players are few and are generally MOR or not up to it or injured. We have appointed development coaches to support them. And we need to support them the best way we can on and off the field. Could not agree more Iva. However that gaping hole was both financial, football department, facilities, membership and playing list. The current administration has done some very good things to date to address many of those issues (You would agree). Some of the solutions take more time than others. FWIW, I think we as a Club are in better shape than we were 2,5 and 10 years ago. But much more needs to be done. I think MFC are more rigorous in this process than they have. Hell Iva I feel more assured than you especially as you have been flying the flag for the current board. So be it. Again, what's the alternative to the situation? Would you say the same about Carlton and Hawthorn four or five years ago?? Each with record memberships now!
  17. The nucleus of that side came from some good recruiting in the mid 80s However the players you revered in that period came up short when it counted most. I agree 1990 was our year and we blew it. The fact we weren't there in the GF showed we weren't good enough. We did not have the killer instinct when it counted. You have to understand that our senior list is shot. We dont have a Stynes, Lyon, Viney or Lovett to instil, lead and guide the team on the ground. All we have are young players and the maturation of those young player will take time. We still need to add some talent to the list to supplement what we have. How else do you build a success team unless you have quality draft picks??? Its not a safety net its reality.
  18. And he has played 2 AFL games since. Spot on rpfc
  19. Pick 2 assumes we come last on the ladder. If the Tigers came last then they would have pick 2. If we came 2nd last we would have pick 3 in addition to the PP no 1.
  20. Your selection of Newton would suggest otherwise.
  21. I agree with your first sentence. I just dont know why posters saw it necessary to villify posters like Hazy who merely asked the questions that should be asked of any management. I think Stynes and co have done a great job to date but they receive no favours from alleged supporters who just blindly follow them. It was not just the senior players that made errors. They all did. Unfortunately there is no the leadership or the class there to show the way.
  22. Decisions made about the list earlier this decade. I dont think supporters are putting up with it. We have a new Board and on field administration. Supporters have pledged $3million to reduce debt. MCC allliance Casey ground usage etc etc etc. Hawthorn had no real senior group five years ago. Neither did Geelong eight years ago. Richmond are not a similar case to us. Richmond are a basket case because they have got their recruiting and their coaching completely arse up and its costing them big time. To have 5 picks in the top 20 in 2004 and be where they are is embarrassing.
  23. I dont think the Coach is at this point. If, hypothetically we were 3 wins from 5 games then we should be seeing what we could achieve. However if we were 3 wins from 15 games we would be nuts to end up winning more than 4 games for the year. We need to supplement the existing crop of youngsters with another group of talented players.
  24. Your going to be disappointed more often going forward then. The issue is that none of the senior group has the capacity to influence a game. Many of them try their guts out like Green and Miller. They are not good enough to do that.
