  1. Unless you are going to elevate a rookie to play AFL immediately why bother doing so??
  2. The fact is he is still learning the defensive side of football. He has not got it yet.
  3. They certainly did. They draft well in 1999. They bottomed in 2001 and 2004 in years when there was quality for sides with high draft picks He is an actual numbskull when it comes to tribunal incident assessment. Amazing for a bloke who fronted the tribunal so often.
  4. Nor should he. Maric and Bartram are not playing the same roles and I am dumbfounded why posters think Maric replaces Bartram. I think your assumption about Bailey wanting to teach Maric a defensive game is correct. Its no good having the "skills" to be an AFL footballer if the application of defensive pressure is not one of them. Maric is not a decent exchange for Junior. In a team that crying out for leadership, Junior is critical out there, particularly with Green out.
  5. If true that represents a very good profile of members. 8,000 die hard Hawks is a fantastic contribution. 12,000 juniors augurs well for the future. It would appear they have very few concessional adult ticket holders. I wonder what clip they get off 19,000 reserved ticket holders. Well down Hawks. Hell they have an ugly jumper!!
  6. We wont have to. Half of the departures will come from retirements. There are others who just wont make it. We will make 6 picks easy. You forget about a potential PSD pick. We dont know what sort of draft this year will be. The age change has been put up to prematurely condemn the 2009 (not 2010). Its too early to tell. Its also the last draft unaffected by the GC inclusion. It would be hard to argue there are better opportunities for MFC in the 2010 draft with the GC priorities. MFC must continually trawl its list for NQRs particularly those players who are rated in the bottom 10. If the footy dept dont believe they will improve or fit the club's plans they should go. MFC should also look at trades if possible. But in my opinion, trade week is overhyped under delivers and with this being the last non GC impacted draft for a while, I suspect its a dead duck in 2009. MFC has absolutely no room for complacency and I would be asking serious questions about list management if we did not cull at least six through retirement or delisting.
  7. What could the Swans offer Freo that they would seriously take? Assume they get pick 10 this year..... What else do they have?
  8. You said MFC should seriously consider it. Consider it, MFC should sign up in a heartbeat. If MFC were serious about Pavlich they know that they would have to give up picks big time not trash and treasure stuff.
  9. Garbage neither can play a sustained role in the midfield atm. Hopefully that comes with game time.
  10. Depth is not the issue. Its developing quality and hopefully developing some stars. The gap between our best 5 and those in the 26 to 30 category is too close. There is not much gap at all between 16th and 30th on our list. We need to develop A graders.
  11. Not if we lose in the midfield. Its not when there big guns go forward that we have to worry about. Give the man a cigar!!
  12. Agree. Making a career out of being a small crumbing forward is fraught with difficulty. You need many tricks to your bow to survive in that role. I would hope that at least Wona and Maric would have enough skill and eventually enough fitness to play in the midfield consistently rather than be keyholed in a pocket.
  13. Fair point. That would seem a more logical assessment than suggested elsewhere
  14. Then why parrot it as if were fact. Could Jurrah be injured/ill?
  15. Jurrah was going to line up with MFC this week was he??
  16. *Cough* So how do we cope with Thompson, Van Berlo, Edwards, Goodwin and McLeod in the midfield?
  17. So you think Freo would gladly take a showbag of our deadwood from a bottom rung club plus pick 17 to take their captain, marquee player and probably greatest ever player in their history?? Unbelievable.
  18. Gotta get the ball down into the forward line first. Hmmm! Agree with both Latin assessments. Too much ado about very little so far.
  19. GC17 would have to offer at least 2 top 10 picks to get Pavlich.
  20. We have a number of players that are doing that continually
  21. He was a 4th round pick two years ago as a flanker/defender. He is still playing Casey 2nds and has had injuries. Given the lack of progress and our seemingly strong supply of defenders, he will either have to blossom in other areas or he will be gone at year end. I reckon your selection of him to go is not unreasonable. I dont know whether Wheatley's contract is up this year but continuing injuries at this stage of his career may not augur well for the future. I doubt Wheatley is of any interest to another Club at his age. Unless there is dramatic improvement, one of Jamar or PJ will be gone at year end. We cant carry two borderline ruckman. If we were to finish last with four wins or less then those pick numbers are reasonable. I reckon at year end at this stage that the following is likely: 2 or more out of McDonald, Whelan, Wheatley, Robbo will be retired or gone. Watch for potential injuries 1 or more of PJ/Jamar will be gone. 2 or more from Buckley, Bartram, Dunn, Bell, Sylvia (1 game doesn't save you).
  22. Do you know how you win games? By having the best cattle out on the park. Leigh Matthews said in a recent article that for a successful side, the quality of you list is 80% of the requirement. Get the picture Are you still warm, fuzzy and excited by beating WB in Round 19(?) 2007 and Carlton in R22 in 2007? I bet you still are down to your cotton socks. More fool you for not realising that players of the quality of Scully and Butcher create the opportunities and outcomes your prefer.
  23. Agree. It will take a brave call from Freo but it would make sense to trade to a Club that sees itself in the flag zone within the next three years. North if it had the picks springs to mind.
