  1. No. The third and fourth quarter were definite wins for the Tigers as MFC faded and tired more as the game went on. After a blitzing 2nd quarter. Demons won the 2nd qtr copmprehensively. The Tigers won the final two. The first qtr was anybodies. What a pathetic standard by both sides. Its unbelievable that MFC only kicked 2.6. What a waste of an opportunity. "You can only play the rabble your up against..." - Tell that to St Kilda and Geelong who play to their standard. Your comments a cop out.
  2. At this point last year, Jack Watts was not even touted as No 1 pick. Lots can change and players can emerge. I think statements like that are pre mature and should be taken with caution. Overall, our target should be the development of what we have. If the players are good to have win a number of games that puts in contention for top 8 then why hold them back? Alternatively, there will need to be an assessment of the playing group (mid year) to determine strengths and deficiencies and how we improve that through the draft. MFC will need to plot and plan how use the rest of the season to test younger players, transition out older players and develop a final position on borderline players.
  3. I At qtr time the game could have gone either way and we have worked hard and not put the score on the board. We were fortunate that Richmond were a rabble on the day.
  4. I am not sure what the winning culture at Sandy (propped up by NQR MFC players) did for MFC overall whom I have felt had a questionable culture. Agreed but that has more to do with MFC than the affiliate club. I think MFC is better focussed on young players than it was before. And that comes from the Club itself and the fact that they have their own VFL side. FWIW, Collingwood have had a terrific leadership group and have wonderful facilities and development program. I also think Malthoouse has coached them well when their recruiting has been less than impressive.
  5. Fact is we didn't. And as we had expended a lot of energy without scoreboard impact, that is a "loss" in my book. Given we ran out of legs in the last shows we have a finite tank of effort within. And the fact that we did not nail gettable shots all day kept the Tigers in it.
  6. Correct. Lot of energy expended for little value. Good slant on it.
  7. It wont necessarily be up to us. Richmond were pathetic with their pressure and the way we were able to move through the centre was a terrible indicator of where they are at. Geelong and Adelaide will let us off the hook there.
  8. From my perpspective, I thought we only won one quarter. The first quarter was a rabble and inconclusive.
  9. Doesn't scare at all. One is at the end of the line. One is at the start of the line. The other two will have have a few good days in between a number of not so good (possibly rotten) days.
  10. Agree rpfc. We actually won the clearances and contested possessions in the middle and hey what a difference that makes.
  11. Agree. However the rest of his game was very good.
  12. Rubbish. Dont get fooled by his silky skills, Brad Green goes in hard when he has to. He has been like that for some years now. Brad Miller has hardness in spades. I doubt it. One he is a rookie. Two he is not a replacement for Green. Three, I would suggest that Maric, Grimes, Junior and Wona would return before they would elevate a rookie. Four, according to my trusted spies at Casey it was a good Valenti game but nothing to warrant elevation at this point.
  13. It depends on what you would call "efficiently". Bowden played well against the tide of the game. He was terribly let down by players up the ground and around him who squandered opportunities that he had involvment in . I also like the way that Bowden was prepared to run the lines at times in a side that looked so error prone and static. Had Richo kicked those goals then Bowden would have been a hero as he continually counterattacked particularly in the last quarter. Sylvia played in the midfield and gathered (on the radio) 11 mostly contested possessions in the second quarter when the game was blown open. I agree about his impact because it was where the game is often won and lost. Winning contested possessions there is critical to winning a game.
  14. If the leadership group saw fit to suspend Silvia for breaching team rules earlier this year, it is great that they provide public accolades when he plays well. Good sign of improving leadership and culture at MFC.
  15. Grimes only played 60 to 70% of the game at Casey. I doubt it. Is that another way of saying the player is "timid"? Can you explain how Brad Green, Brad Miller and Stefan Martin deal with it?
  16. He has played 300 games. He could have been an elite if he had even a reasonable history of kicking vital goals. His best is exhilarating. His worst has been Fevola like. Too often has marred his execeptional talents with execution. Had they got up, Bowden would have been close to best on ground. His teammates were meaningless. His efforts were not. I am surprised MFC did not seek to make him more accountable
  17. Worst case of counting your Chickens before.... Davey played his best game since 2006. His passing was better than against Collingwood because his passing actually cut the lines and he was able to run and make position with it. Clearly our best player for use of the pill. However, he is our only avenue at the moment for MFC. Good teams will shut him down quick smart. Hopefully he will benefit from having Grimes, Wona and Maric brought up.
  18. A lack of leadership and experience does not help either. And the comment is not an attack on individual players but a real issue that was made worse out there without Junior and Green. However, a special mention to Brad Miller who ran the length of the ground to punch a Tiger shot on goal that fell short on distance for a rushed behind. Its these little things in close pressure situations that makes or breaks games.
  19. I have been a critic of Dunn but one area he does not lack is leg speed. His closing speed over distance on the ball carrier is very good. Its what happens in the ball contest and the lead up where Dunn is questionable.
  20. I think the verdict after the match on one of the radio stations was that giving Wallace (let alone any player) a 5 year contract is too long. I would agree. Its still early days in Bailey's coaching career. He is in the 2nd year of a 3yr contract. He isn't going anywhere so lets keep it under review until year end. But I agree with the pendulum swing on Bailey. Had we lost there would have been growing calls for his head. We only won by eight points against an appalling opposition. Had there been another 5 minutes to go I reckon MFC would have gone down. Footy is a funny game. There could be a reality check this week and few will be gushing about the Press conference then.
  21. Agree. Why is Bate so continually inept below his knees when the ball is on the ground?
  22. Are you still not attending the games and relying on Monday's papers for your lack of insight??
