Being the best player at your club not a pre requisite for being a successful captain. Its not a mutually exclusive situation either Harley, McDonald, Lloyd, Mitchell, Maxwell, Cassisi and Johnson are good capable players and leaders at their Club in their own styles. Are they the best player at their Club? No.

I like Brad Green as a footballer and he is as honest a trier as you will get. Does not shirk a contest either But I cant think of a game that he has really nailed as BOG for MFC of recent years. I'd like him as a leader but the problem is I dont think the players view him as a leader. Thats an issue.

They made a similar assessments about Cox when he was a rookie. The kid is 19 and was brought on earlier than anticipated. The fact is he is a raw ruckman and his skills will need tro be honed. I cant find the need for negativity as its a long term investment and I struggle to think what other optinos MFC has in the ruck. Jamar is injured and mediocre. PJ just isn't a ruckman. The only thing going for Meesen was that he was highly touted as a junior good grief. He has had six years in the system, a long list of injuries and the only thing he has really shown is that he was once a top 10 pick. The only upside in his four games is that he was not as bad as he had shown at Casey. And at Casey he was really bad at times. And at AFL level, he is not that good. Unless Meesen gets over his ankle injury soon, the lack of pre season will cruel any opportunity he will have to save his career.

Cut the pretence about numbers. Its fitting that a long serving MFC forward and one of its leading goal kickers of all time hands his guernsey to the best 1st year player of 2009. While I have been critical of Robbo's antics and efforts at times in recent years, he has a great record at the Club and is a life member. Some of the recent criticism for bagging his old club is unfounded and unnecessary since he clearly is on good terms with the hierachy. Comes a time when you part company. He may be at the end of his career but to label him a "PSDud" is cheap and ungracious and Robbo deserves better

Exactly correct. The tax deduction is given by the Government for voluntary contributions to minimise its cost of the upgrade of Olympic Park. They wont give tax deductions to efforts to reduce debt for an organisation that cannot make a profit on its own. And cant do so even with the help of other parties. Well done to those that have contributed to the R&B Foundation or Debt reduction.

Unless he can counterattack effectively as well as shut down an opposition player then his future is limited. I am not aware of him diong any signinficant shut down jobs on any names at Casey. Although some one may have watched him closer at Casey.

Agree. I think assessments like Wellman's (and Lovell's last year) are pitched not to offend publicly while internal assessments may be miore honest and harsher. This may or may not be the case with Bail. He was a fourth round pick last year. And you are right any thing we get from him is a bonus. I am not sure what that bonus will be. I seemed to be more impressed with McKenzie than Bail. Then again he has a year more to strut his stuff and show his worth.

May I suggest to posters that they avoid making idle and unsubstantiated allegations against players that involve legal action or illegal behaviour. This is not an area of speculation thats welcome on this forum. Thanks.

Do we need a replacement for a player who was not good enough? In the games I saw for Casey, he seemed to routinely butcher the ball by foot. Could be a replacement for Buckley?

Its called a rumour. Unless there is a serious behavioural issue with a player, I cant see how MFC can seek AFL approval to pay out a player because "he is no good" and then apply to the AFL for special funding. MFC just looks financially and operationally incompetent to the AFL. We then look dishonourable to players and their managers when we dont honour the terms of the contract. Unless there are very special and unique circumstances (eg Carroll) and I dont there is, MFC wont be paying out contracts early. However at the end of 2010, I think there a number of players including ruckmen whose contracts are up for expiry and who in some cases wont be re contracted for further service.

Agree. If Demon 3 is proven right then fine. Its a tick for his credibility. However the preponderance of carp posted as fact on forums earns the highest caveat emptor warning.
