How did you end up following the Mighty Dees?
chook fowler replied to Frosty Demon's topic in Melbourne Demons
Started supporting the Dees in 1965! Grandparents, Mother and Uncles were fans and went most weeks with them. Would sit each week near the race, often with Stan Alves family and Max Walker was often there watching the reserves prior to the game. Went to school with the Ritterman twins and Ross Dillon - Melbourne High. Early heroes were Hassa. Tassie Bob, Donny Williams, Ross Dillon, Gary Hardeman and Greg Wells. Then came the greatest of them all Tulip. He was the most artistic of players. Balanced, clean hands, great vision and sublime skills. In some ways more like a dancer than a footballer. Had the pleasure of seeing him play his first game and watched him in the reserves playing in spectacles. No one at the time would have thought he would become a legend. It has been worth all the years of pain being a Dees supporter to have been able to see him play for the team I have loved over the years. Greatest moments - seeing the side get into 2 grand finals. Worst moments - those 2 grand finals. Special mention to Ox doing his knee for the third time and seeing Jeff White kicked in the face by King of Geelong- still seething that he was never reported. -
Looked pretty downcast when wearing the red vest - god I hate this sub fiasco. That's a positive as it shows he's a competitive beast. Hope they give him another go.

what's made the loss even more unpalatable is that it's taken the pressure off that loathesome James Hird.

For once I agree with Mark Robinson in his latest piece in the Sun where he questions If the Dees really have improved given their capitulation to Essendon on Saturday. This loss was terrible for the club and demands corrective action from the football department. Brad Scott finally had enough crap from his players and dropped Lundsay Thomas and made Harvey the sub. Ross Lyon dropped Milne and Del Santo to good effect a few years ago. It is time we made a statement at the selection table and did the same to some of of our passengers, especially Howe and Dawes. As much as I admire Daniel Cross his turnovers are becoming a problem and I don't think Lamumbas form has been anything to write home about. I think selection has been a problem all year and needs a major rethink. This loss which ever way you look at it should never have happened and demands consequences.

The way the Lions are playing against Sydney we will have plenty to moan about next week is well. Can't wait.

Demonland Player of the year - Round 15
chook fowler replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Can't believe how some have been critical of Gawns game saying that his hitouts weren't influential. The midfield take time to adapt to his style. The same was said about Sandilands not too long ago. He is rapidly becoming one of our most important players especially now he is clunking contested marks and accumulating possessions. -
Hunt is a must keep. Exactly the sort of player we lack. Easy to forget how good he is because he has been cruelled by injury.

Hard not to be negative after kicking 8.17 against the Essendon seconds. Putrid is putrid which ever way you look at it.

It's the circle of life

God I hope that duplicitous Scully doesn't get to play finals - not that I am one to hold a grudge.

Positives this year: Vince, Watts, the first year players, Gawn, Viney, player development. Negatives: Selection, match day coaching, Dawes, Howe, Michie, Newton, skills by foot, injuries to Salem, Kent and Petracca

Anyone who doesn't get hypothermia and frostbite at Casey is in.

The problem yesterday was all about intensity. When it lifted in the last quarter we almost got over the line. Our most intense player is Viney - he really attacks each contest. Brayshaw is up there is well but he had an off day, which is excusable. The least intense player would have to be Howe by a mile and yesterday Garlett was bad as well. Our younger brigade of ANB, Stretch and JKH are very talented and overall doing well but they need to attend a masterclass lead by Viney to develop this quality.. Dawes can be intense but unfortunately I think he is a spud and his time at the club has passed. Does not contribute nearly enough - he's always where the ball ain't and can't take a contested mark to save himself.

There is a definite problem with us coping with big forwards - Cloke 7, Riewoldt 4, Darling 5, Daniher 5 over the past weeks. That is why Fitz has to come in - his form has been OK and at least his size allows him to compete 1:1. It's not rocket surgery.

Pederson would be handy.
