  1. The whole idea of bringing in May was to strengthen our whole defence. I very much doubt May was brought in just as a 'gorilla tamer' as people like to say, his best games for gold coast were when he was able to go for the ball as well. There's no way the coaches would ever want a defender left 1 out like suggested with OMac and Kennedy, they'd want a body on him and someone else spoiling or taking an intercept mark, things May, lever and Hibberd are really good at
  2. May has stated that his best games came when Rory Thompson was at full back as a last line stopper, that's why I think we'll go with OMac instead of Frost as he'll do that role. That'll allow both May and lever to do what they do best. Should make hibbo even more dangerous as well as he'll be able to attack full time
  3. I think May and lever would prefer OMac in the team as he'll stay back last line as instructed while Frost still has an attacking mindset, not a bad thing but May and lever have been brought in for those roles and are much better at it. Frost might be better against teams that play a very small forward line, but i think OMac will be first choice full back
  4. Spot on, we scored more than any other team last year based on multiple options not 1 or 2 dominate talls. The game plan seems to be moving towards just beating the opposition at the contest then getting the ball in as quick possible then lock it in. Not pretty movement in to leads
  5. Quick change the thread title! picks 27 & 31 now!
  6. It's on now, GC made that trade with WC. Love to hear if the player we wanted is still there anyway.
  7. Unless there are other issues at play surely there'll be a few clubs lined up for him. I'd say we'd be low on the list given he plays in an area of our strength, but I'd be very happy for him to come in as depth. Seems a strange move from the Suns, maybe there are issues with Dew?
  8. OMac will also be more inclined to stick to his task and stay last line of defence than Frost, May has mentioned that he played best when Rory Thompson played at the same time because he did this. Frost is getting a lot smarter but I still wouldn't trust him to stick to this all game. So I agree that OMac is more complementary of May and lever than Frost, but both could play if either of those were missing
  9. Was just told by someone at a club (not ours) they knew there were deals pending but they had to hold off, they weren't in a position to know about the actual deals though
  10. Something I've heard (so rumor) but seems to have some substance. The AFL are keen to get the trade period as another 'must watch event' which is why they have extended out the close time on the Wednesday.
  11. I've heard a number of deals are actually done, but the AFL is getting clubs to hold of announcing them so there's something to show in their deadline deals broadcast on Wednesday night. until then expect a very slow flow of minor trades.
  12. Posted this in the Koldasjhni (no idea of the spelling without looking it up) thread: I know it's been talked about that we're looking at a future 3rd for KK, I reckon we could offer a future 2nd if they throw in Sam Collins (state league player) who would provide that strong body in the back-line and has improved massively this year. We'd then tell the suns we're out of the race for May this year. Collins would be on a minimal contract so if he doesn't work then we can still have a crack at May next year, but if he carries the VFL form over we'll have a massive win.

  14. It got reported on Friday that he had, if they lose Adams they might put their hands up. They'd have the currency and cap space.
  15. Yes, but they'll get a very high pick next year if they keep him, and have a number of high picks already. I think they'll love pick 5 as well, but won't have much use for the later 20s picks they've got so might try and move them up this year. But they need time to work through that
  16. May had a tour with the western Bulldogs this week, so clearly is looking at other options. Also the longer it goes the more likely the GCS will hold him to his contact because they will want to plan things with the other picks they have, currently they have 5 picks under 30, and might look to upgrade or move some of the latter ones.
  17. We would have saved a bit of coin with the Tyson/BP trade, but I can't work out who they're accept. Frost has been raised but they'd want more, I just can't see it happening this year. Plus with lever back I think our defence is more than ok
  18. This is rubbish, he was out all of this year injured but was all Aust squad the 2 years before that. He's a very good player and would complement our mid field perfectly
  19. Yes but our only currency at the moment is a first round next year, as much as they might want him out, they won't risk getting a pick 15+ when they are going to get pick 5 or below
  20. Who knows the true circumstances, he may have said that with all sincerity then the price got put up (the deal was too good to refuse), or the old man forced him to go so he could get that cushy job. Surely after 7 years we can let go of that one? He's been All Australian squad twice, so he's having an impact you might not have noticed. The giants are clearing space for Kelly and Cognilio coming out of contract next year, plus have Cameron etc. on deals that are forcing them this way.
  21. Apparently there's some sort of family issue, not going to make light of anything it might be, but it's not a massive deal. The giants are way over the salary cap and have put the retention of Kelly and Cognilio next year the priority, and are happy to let go of Shiel, Lobb and Scully to make that happen. On a pure playing level Scully is exactly what we need, and there's been enough time and understanding to accept him back. It would be very immature to not at least look at him just because he left in the past, and I don't think the club is like that.
  22. From the sounds of it, we've treated him very well throughout and I'm sure that'll only increase from hear. He's overseas at the moment, so I'm hoping there's either teammates with him or we're on the phone everyday.
  23. We can, but why would GCS want that? They would be better waiting a year then getting the compo pick. We'd be better waiting as well because we won't have to give up anything next year. I always thought we might be getting to him as an early move for next season. Of course if he comes out and says he's desperate to get to the Dees that changes everything and the asking price might lower.
  24. They have 5 picks under 29 (2,3,19,24 & 29) and no academy kids coming through, so I'd think they'd prefer to bank some points for next year.
  25. Let's hope so and the price is a future 3rd, the suns don't need anymore picks this year.
