WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - STEVEN MAY
It got reported on Friday that he had, if they lose Adams they might put their hands up. They'd have the currency and cap space.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - STEVEN MAY
Yes, but they'll get a very high pick next year if they keep him, and have a number of high picks already. I think they'll love pick 5 as well, but won't have much use for the later 20s picks they've got so might try and move them up this year. But they need time to work through that

May had a tour with the western Bulldogs this week, so clearly is looking at other options. Also the longer it goes the more likely the GCS will hold him to his contact because they will want to plan things with the other picks they have, currently they have 5 picks under 30, and might look to upgrade or move some of the latter ones.

We would have saved a bit of coin with the Tyson/BP trade, but I can't work out who they're accept. Frost has been raised but they'd want more, I just can't see it happening this year. Plus with lever back I think our defence is more than ok

Yes but our only currency at the moment is a first round next year, as much as they might want him out, they won't risk getting a pick 15+ when they are going to get pick 5 or below

Farewell Jesse Hogan
From the sounds of it, we've treated him very well throughout and I'm sure that'll only increase from hear. He's overseas at the moment, so I'm hoping there's either teammates with him or we're on the phone everyday.

We can, but why would GCS want that? They would be better waiting a year then getting the compo pick. We'd be better waiting as well because we won't have to give up anything next year. I always thought we might be getting to him as an early move for next season. Of course if he comes out and says he's desperate to get to the Dees that changes everything and the asking price might lower.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - KADE KOLODJASHNIJ
They have 5 picks under 29 (2,3,19,24 & 29) and no academy kids coming through, so I'd think they'd prefer to bank some points for next year.

Let's hope so and the price is a future 3rd, the suns don't need anymore picks this year.

Farewell Jesse Hogan
Hope the club comes out very quickly with a statement to the effect - "our first preference was always to keep Jesse, he's a quality young man but he's been through so much in his life that if wanted to go back to be closer to family it was something we fully understood. That's why we entertained this in the first place, unfortunately while Freo through buckets of money at him they were unreasonable to deal with and we're keeping him and will be working on a long term deal".

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BRAYDON PREUSS
I actually think Maxy could go the other way and move more towards the backline. Not as a 1 on 1 defender but similar to what he did this year and really play as lose man filling holes. If BP (my nickname contender) can hold his own as a forward then switching them depending on the game situation could work very well - it's something that's not been seen at AFL level either.

Farewell Dom Tyson
Some mentioned the salary cap relief and that's now a big thing, the AFL even admitted this year for the first time they'll allow salary cap dumps (done in the NBA all the time). So the $200k or so we'll save this year having Preuss instead of Tyson will allow us more cap to resign some of the guys coming out of contract next year (Salem, Weid, ANB and Melky being the most pressing - unless Hogan stays), or might allow us to go after a 'big fish' fish next year. We'll also have Lewis and Jones coming out of contract plus maybe some savings form Hogan so 2019 could be a big trading year cause we should have a heap of cap space.

Farewell Jesse Hogan
I was hoping we might have been able to do that if we got pick 5 if Hogan goes. Maybe we could offer Adelaide pick 5 & 36 for picks 13, 16 & 21 (in points value about a 800 difference in our favor, but the move up the board negates that for Adelaide). If we go after May, be able to give pick 11 (assuming we got 5 & 11), and then 21, while we'd get May, KK and picks 13 & 16.

Farewell Jesse Hogan
Guessing! I'd be happy with that as a trade though, very much doubt we'd be getting 5 & 6 this year like most want.
-
Farewell Jesse Hogan
Somewhat reasonable (but the club would be a little more subtle I suspect), I'm sure they might have said we'll give you a similar long term deal that Freo are offering so we don't have to do this again next year otherwise if we get a great offer we'll move on it because you'll be out of contract and the 'noise' could be very unsettling next season.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - HARLEY BENNELL
If we gave pick 100odd, and Freo paid most of his salary, then I'd say yes, but only if we were allowed to put the following conditions on him (if he breaches one then instant dismissal/retirement): - He has to live with a member of the football department (Viney, Macca etc.) I know that younger players sometimes do (in particular those from interstate) - He has to agree to an alcohol ban, and be tested at the discretion of the club (of course his issues have included other substances, but that's ASADAs place to test). - He has a curfew of 9pm, unless prior permission is given or out with multiple team members (including if he goes home to visit family). - He follows all team rules and if anyone in the FD feels he is not pulling his weight or is disruptive he's out. If he can do this for the full pre-season there's a chance the switch might reset and he'll fulfill his potential, if he can't commit to this then he doesn't come to the club. If he slips up then we haven't wasted much

There is some talk that Lycett is trying to stay at West coast now, meaning they probably won't want either Lobb (should be discussed in the Hogan thread really) or Roughead. I know we were linked with Roughead very early on, so maybe he might come into the picture. More than a handy backup and also can play back.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - KADE KOLODJASHNIJ
Yes, but I think we'll need to expect that it'll take him some time to actually get to his best, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him at Casey at the start of the season, or even have spells there until he really breaks through.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - KADE KOLODJASHNIJ
Seems well advanced and that there won't be any issues - quoted from AFL.com.au Another Sun on the hunt for a new start is defender Kade Kolodjashnij, and it looks certain that he'll be at Melbourne next season. Kolodjashnij missed the final 10 rounds of 2017 with concussion symptoms after copping a head knock at a training session in mid-June, which forced him to wear a helmet when he returned to the field this season. He missed more games this year because of the problem, before specialists revealed in June that it was a neck issue and not concussion symptoms causing Kolodjashnij's horror run. The 23-year-old played four of the last six games, but Cameron said the club had encouraged the half-back to look around for a new home, when they sat down to debrief the season. "He suffered a bad concussion (in 2017) and he's really battled with that," he said. "He got it together towards the end of last year and played some footy, (but) his confidence took a hit as you can imagine, dealing with that. "We just think that it's a good opportunity for him to explore other avenues to continue his footy. "We've spoken to his management and we've had some preliminary discussions with Melbourne, so I'm pretty confident that we'll do a trade for Kade pretty early next week."

Distinctly different tone that what Mahoney used when discussing Hogan. Could be the state of their club, but I'd like to think it's just that we've got better operators in place. We seem much more realistic about how the whole trading scenario's could work, rather than just being so defensive about everyone.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - KADE KOLODJASHNIJ
Sounds like GC will delist him if they can't get a deal done, so I imagine it'll be for a 3rd rounder at most, maybe a future 3rd/4th if he's not an add on to the May deal. I'm hoping he's done separately, right at the start of the week, as the Hogan/Freo/May circus could drag on a bit.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - STEVEN MAY
Apparently Adams is now off to Brissy, I think Collingwood are the most likely to get May but are having a very hard time coming up with a suitable trade. We meet with May long before the Hogan talk started (seriously not the chatter that goes on all the time), and I would have assumed it would have been about lining him up next year if we were still interested. I think the most likely outcome will be Collingwood trading Moore to Sydney (he wants to go for lifestyle reasons) for their first pick then trading that and either their first round pick this year or next for May. Based on this years draft picks 13 & 18, that gives them the points value equivalent to pick, which would satisfy the suns as it's similar to what they'd get next year if May left in free agency which seems to be their wish.

Farewell Jesse Hogan
And yet you've said you'd be happy to do a straight swap with May who also didn't finish in the top 10, and before you say it's because he only played 17 games, Martin and Thompson both finished top 10 for them and both played the same or less games than May. Whereas all the Melbourne top 10 played more games than Jesse.

I completely agree, I can see OMac taking another huge step forward over the pre-season and the whole defense going to another level with Lever back. At the same stage of their careers OMac and May are tracking very similar, and going into year 5 was when May really elevated his game, so happy to wait and not pay/trade next year if he's still of interest.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - STEVEN MAY
I just think GC will want an early first round (pick 5/6/7) rather than something after pick 10 as their starting point. As I said I hope we don't give up anything for him, but surely unless GC get a great offer they'd just hang onto him for 12 months and take the free agency comp which will be very likely to be in the top couple of picks.
