At least we wouldnt have to offer his dad a job in recruiting..

I would say that the poorest disposing team in the league 2-3 years ago was West Coast. Poor disposal at times is more about decision making, confidence and team mates not providing suitable options. I believe we have some poor disposers but it is hard to judge at present when the other factors I mentioned are such an issue.

Based on Casey performances and injury updates. Assuming Martin and Moloney pass their tests. In: Moloney, Martin, Couch, Morton Out: McKenzie, Sellar, Green, MacDonald NB: Bennell only saved due to forward matchups with their mosquito fleet.

Post Match - Coaches Press Conference
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to demon85's topic in Melbourne Demons
Correct. A big emphasis on our youth. I have only watched the first half of the presser because it kept buffering but it was littered with "our young boys", "the youth on our list", "we have a young group", "the development of our young boys". He definitely learnt from last week. -
Assuming Moloney is available and Sylvia is still a week away.6 changes is too many however the changes should come from this group. In: Moloney, Morton, Couch, Strauss, Tapscott, Martin Out: McKenzie, MacDonald, Green, Bennell, Dunn, Sellar Unless you can play a key post we need players that can spread through the midfield and players that can kick. Green, Dunn, MacDonald do not offer enough flexibility or run. Bennell was appalling and McKenzie seems to lack confidence at present. Moloney does not deserve a game but he will perform against a weaker side.

Post of the weekend thus far BH. Our performance was deplorable but its good to see some balanced logic.
-
He had 21 touches Trengove in a team that got smashed. He plays a style of game that needs 2 more seasons of physical maturity before he can consistently apply it at high quality for a full game.

Gerard Healy who I cant stand got it very right today. We lack midfield quality and midfield depth. We have alot of players who just play forward and just play defence but they are not keys. That is either poor recruiting or poor development. If you dont play in a key post you MUST in todays game understand how to play through the middle or at least have the work rate of a midfielder. It is time to start pushing players out that lack the flexibility to play through the middle. Our effort when near the ball was ok but we lack polish and the courage to run.

DEMONLAND PLAYER OF THE YEAR - Round 2
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
6. Jones 5. Clark 4. Magner 3. Rivers 2. Bate 1. T-Mac (encouragement award as no one else was deserving) -
Stef out for Tom McDonald. Puts alot of pressure on Jamar. Bate sub again.

I dont think we are overly tall. In fact we may still struggle to match up on a forward structure of Kennedy, NikNat/Cox, Lynch and Darling. Dunn as a back up ruck taking on Nik Nat would be interesting.....

I dont know why you would tag Natanui the limited possessions he gets are usually second efforts at the stoppage. The only difference for mine between us and West Coast is how well drilled they are and stopping Priddis and Kerr. Dont give them easy ball through the midfield and we should put up a decent effort.

Carlton are obviously a better side but Brisbane went with them in the first half. A 5 day turn around certainly didn't help them in the second half.

Daniel Talia - Another recruiting blunder?
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Range Rover's topic in Melbourne Demons
And I thought we were short classy midfielders but we obviously need more key backs.Especially ones that are so far unproven. -
Good changes, I wonder whether Moloney played sore last week saw the axe swinging and then mentioned groin soreness. Tynan stiff but the right move he had a dip but looked a little overawed. Couch stiff but the big ground would not suit him. Really wonder what T-Mac has to do to get a game. Congratulations and best of luck to Sellar on his first game for the MFC.

We need to rebuild our midfield
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Jesse Christ's topic in Melbourne Demons
Moloney winning a B & F says more about our performance last year than about him. An inside mid who plays 80% game time all in the middle and lays 2 tackles for the game. Magner is not untouchable but Moloney was pathetic yesterday. -
We need to rebuild our midfield
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Jesse Christ's topic in Melbourne Demons
Agree we need to inject some class to our mids. Disagree it is as disastrous as you mention. You will not trade for the class you are looking for. If you disagree I would keen to know who you think we can land. At best it will provide a solid A Grader which we will pay overs for. We need to re-invent the players we have and then look to the draft to inject quality mids with Viney. I would be moving Howe further up the ground, Watts to continue to play through the midfield and Grimes to move into the midfield. We have plentiful half forwards and our backs are our strength so we need to balance this a bit more. Magner, Jones and Trengove should be persevered with. Moloney needs to be pushed out as he offers nothing defensively and provides alot of clearances but not many that give us a clean advantage. McKenzie is a trier who is meant to tag but lets his man get 30 touches. -
Coburg Tigers v Casey Scorpions

T-Mac for Green. Petterd for Blease. Morton for Joel Mc. Sellar for Rivers. Couch for Moloney (statement should be made). -
Coburg Tigers v Casey Scorpions
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
And everyone let him get through to the pick he got to. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. Disagree on picking him before Gysberts but agree with Tapscott on the basis they both played as half forwards during the champs so you can argue like for like and they are so close in the pick they were chosen.. -
Effort did happen thats why we laid over 20 tackles in the first quarter but we do not know how to apply it for long periods or consistently. Consistent intensity is not something that suddenly happens. Players consistently pushing when they have nothing left to give is not something that just suddenly happens. You either do it innately (which most of our list dont) or you have to learn it. Laziness takes time to get out people particularly when some have it inbuilt into them for 5+ years (Green, Davey, Moloney). People are acting as if these traits have never existed or miraculously expected that these will disappear over a preseason with a new coach. It is not the disgust that I am critical of it is peoples expectations that a team suddenly changes.
-
I could see our effort in the second half was not up to standard just like I could see it for most of last year. You dont change culture and players overnight. There was nothing wrong with Trengove's effort or the team high 8 tackles he laid. I have no doubt that Neeld will weed out quickly those that dont fit this new mantra but its not something that suddenly happens.
-
Where did I say it was ok. Todays effort was pathetic. There has been some excellent measured criticism by 5% in this thread but 95% are just throwing bombs with no attempt at understanding or based on ridiculous expectations. We are a team that lost less than half a season ago by the greatest losing margin of all time. We have a long way to go. People need to get some perspective.
-
Why would they show anymore skill than they did last year. It is the same mature players with the same skill errors and the same laziness.
-
Todays was a pathetic performance but the reaction of some on here is almost as embarrassing. It was the first proper game with a completely different gameplan. Players who have not worked hard without the ball for 5 years are suddenly expected that it will come naturally to them. The figurehead of our great club dies one week before the first game and no one thinks that it would be a distraction. These are kids who live by routine and that is dropped on them. I hope the coaching staff have more faith in their plans than some of the knee jerk reactions on here.
