No its just what i believe- Nobody would support the Gold Coast Demons. The changes are happening to melbourne but the on field concerns me as if it gets too bad the off field will collapse.

If my club relocated / merged / folded, I would walk away from footy in all forms, and never watch it again.

You don't support a club like ours for decades without having an emotional attachment to the club, and I'd be shattered if anything happened to the MFC.

In my mind, there is no AFL unless the MFC is in it!

Seriously though, i think that for the melbourne football club to survive we must be strong on the ground, perhaps strong is not good enough, we need to be hated, to be loathed by opposition players and supporters. Nobody fears the Melbourne Football Club. People often say "i like the demons, they are my second favourite team". We dont want people's sympathy.

We need to people to follow this club because we are something or more importantly are going to become something. People need to believe that the club is going somewhere. As supporters and to all those kids who are looking for to follow a club we need to show them that we are proud fighting club. The Melbourne Football Club needs to find its spirit. Where from i dont know, but surely someone can instill some form heartbeat back into the club. Without it we will never survive. It can be done, but it needs to come from within. Starting with those 22 fellas who run out on the weekend.

The home games could be against Hawthorn, Bulldogs, Freo and Port - we don't get good crowds against 3 of those sides and the Hawthorn one could be an annual challenge. The other Monday night games could be in Sydney and Adelaide - make Mondy night the Demon's night

Monday night football, we should trial some "made-for-TV" games but at the G, not Tassie. This will be good for both our sponsors who will get TV coverage and also it means our grass-roots supporters have an even better chance of attending [country & interstate members excepted] because as an entertainment product we are not competing against all the other activities that can consume a weekend.

I would entertain 1 match per year at Tassie, swapping it for that freakin Manuka home game, play it in Hobart instead against either Fremantle, Eagles or Port [Crows supporters seem more prone to make the trip to the G]. Don't play the Dorks in Tassie - that's only reinforcing their footprint.

But if the AFL ever moved us interstate, my support would go interstate as well...but I'd have trouble deciding between the Brumbies, Waratah's or Red's.

I would choose fighting to the death of the club over re-locating interstate. I would do everything I could to resist the move and I would fight the good fight.

If we moved interstate, then I would view that as a new club and I would stop supporting it. I would perhaps consider supporting a new Melbourne-based team, or give up AFL altogether. But under no circumstances can I imagine that I would I support the team

itd be the brumbies for me no doubt. it is likely they will end up in melbourne very soon anyway

im not a big league fan myself, i find it a bit repetetive, tho im sure i could learn to like it. i have been to the odd storm game, and i spose i should get down more often, but have never really got into it...

ps i would rather us get 5-10K ppl to a vfl match than have to fly to the gold coast to watch our team...

The most disturbing aspect of the financial mess MFC is in and has been in for some time that some supporters cannot countenance the prospect or the possibility that the Club at some time in the next 5 to 10 years will struggle to survive in its current form. Unless there is a major change in ownership, identity, structure or demographic support for MFC its going to wither on the vine in an expanded competition. MFC and NMFC will be the first victim of the 10 team squeeze in Victoria.

If MFC is going to survive it will have to consider something radical to the status quo to do so. And its way more than just a change or changes in the MFC Board. Thats a small part of it.

I would rather the club die than be reincarnated. But first and foremost, I would like it to live and prosper, like all of us. And I don't think we are in a position where we have to do something too radical. We need to build our brand (we have the name of the city for goodness sakes) to attract sponsors, and we need to re-engage with the members. And we need a new and savvy, well connected board to complement McNamee.

I despise Carlton for selling their soul purely for success. Given a choice, I wouldn't sell the integrity and soul of the club purely for success. I'm a fairweather follower.

I follow the club through thick and thin, I hurt with every loss and celebrate every win, (few as they've been...sorry folks, didn't mean for that to come out as a cheesy rhyme).

If Melbourne moved to the Gold Coast, they wouldn't be the team I've followed ever since I moved to Australia as a six year old.

I'm gonna risk the abuse and say that I would follow wherever MFC went - Gold Coast, West Sydney, merge with North Melbourne. I love football and think it is so much more enjoyable when following a team. I would follow which ever team had the link to the team I have always followed.

I know far too many bitter and twisted ex-Fitzroy supporters who stupidly punish themselves so many years on. Whats the point in walking away from football? Who apart from yourselves is going to care or even notice?

I am all for inovation, change and doing everything possible to survive and thrive as Melbourne Demons, and hope that we do get on top of things BUT I am not going to walk away from a sport I love because things way, way out of my control or influence turn bad. MelbourneFC is where it is at because of many factors from bad decisions, lack of success, lack of franchise players to just downright bad luck.

We only have 23,000 members don't we? We had 27,000 last year and I'm sure Sheedy would get at least another 5,000 so that's close to 10,000 already. Who knows he could have got more? 10-15,000 was a rough figure I never said anything about 40,000 members but I think we could have got close to 35,000 with Sheedy as coach.

That defies logic. Our record is under 30,000. A coach will not be the difference of 5000 members, let alone 15,000. That's more than half again our total membership base.

I suggest thinking your viewpoint through before posting it. What you're saying doesn't make the least bit of sense.
