The skipper ... time to drop him?

Featured Replies

he should have retired last year or gave the skipper role to someone else.. just looks sooo slow these days!!

Backline. He's kicked what 1 goal this year? Give robbo some room up there.

he has all the room he needs on it takes two.

drop him and robbo both need time in the seconds

or move on let some one else have a go

I agree....

Put him in the backline for a week.....

If he doesn't perform....

He will retire before he plays for Sandy....

Robbo can get effed as far as I'm concerned. Fat, lazy and selfish. Tried to steal someone's goal (think it was McLean's) but fortunately slipped over. Brings NOTHING to the team. His It Takes Two co-star David Hobson had had enough, saw him leaving early.

Think it is time to drop Neitz. It absolutely pains me to see him struggling him so much. Some time down at Sandy might do him good so he can get some form and hopefully go out with a bang at the end of the season.

Neitz can't be dropped.

if they want to drop him, they persuade him to retire.

i wouldn't be too surprised to see a midyear retirement

I agree with Sylvinator it is very hard to drop Neitz.....There was something about his performance today that suggests he is not able to go on for much longer. Unless of course he is carrying an injury which we are unawares.....

I have always admired David but this year he has been terrible and it honestly hurts to see him out there when he really should not be there.

I too would not be surprised to see David hang up his boots very soon........Just a gut instinct only.........If not I have no idea what can be done to get him back to where he was????

Food for thought..

If he is the great leader we've all come to believe.. he would show true leadership.. AND DROP HIMSELF !!

SO I take it many of you have finally woken up !! welcome aboard

I have no malice towards Neeta..but either youre there to DO something..or go find form...or move up the other end.. ..actually...just do SOMETHING !!

I think it might be worth giving him a rest. I don't think him playing at sandy is worth while. Make up calf or knee or general soreness and give the old body a rest.

I am going to recieve hell for this but iv had it. Neitz is not worthy of being captain. There are 0 positives about his games so far. He is completly overwhelmed and although i have never rated him, this has no effect on my criticism today. Although McLean and Jones are players who look like they will never be in the AFL top 50, they are young and could be inspiring and learn a great deal. There is no advantage in neitz captaining the team. He takes the number 1 backman and thats it

That "injury" could be the basis for ultimately giving reason for an early retirement as his body can no longer stand the strain of AFL.

I love the big fella but he has been just a passenger this year with little leadership evident on the ground.

For the good of the Club, its members and supporters and for the good of the game, it needs to be handled respectfully and sensitively.

Despite some of the bile directed Neitz's way by supposed MFC supporters, this one situation where I think the Club owes one to the magnificent and loyal service of our longest serving player and captain.

He would be SLAUGHTERED in the back line these days.

Correct, he showed the signs last year that he should have retired.

From what I have seen this year NOBODY deserves to be new captain of the club. Until then, Neitz is and should be skipper.

What self respecting captain..or stalwart of a club...wants to be "carried" ??..He simply needs to do something.... If he does nothing then then let alone the club but he does himself no favour .

Sharpen your arrows..or aim your barbs...I just dont see much leaderhsip going on...anywhere..but the focus is naturally on he who ought to lead !!

thoughts?

I was mauled mercilessly for suggesting this last year. He is too old, too slow, can't catch a cold and cannot pick the drop of the ball. He has gone on too long. For Gods sake David pull the pin on a great career and give someone younger with the hunger have a go, you are not the future.

I think it might be worth giving him a rest. I don't think him playing at sandy is worth while. Make up calf or knee or general soreness and give the old body a rest.

i agree,4-6 for the rest of the season.

Disagree. The whole team is playing horrible. Neitz should NOT be dropped.

Think about it ,if David Neitz was a a player without his history, you'd want him dropped!!!

Nobody should be included because of what they have done in the PAST if they can't hack it now

Do you know what Neitz does competes, brings the ball to ground if he cant mark it, hopefully our midfielders and small forwards will realise this one day. If we can get flowing footy through the midfield Neitz will struggle, any forward will struggle and when we do get clean footy we kick it short or long to him. Don't anyone blame Neita same as Miller they are only as good as our midfield will allow them to be and at the moment our midfield skills are crap.

D666.. some of us lay no particular claim to any favoritism.. and have asked "the question " of many players over the years..including Neeta. But apparently some players are off limits.

Its a preciptous path one treads when you start placing any player as out of bounds or beyond critique.. Whilst David has been a wonderful player for the club he is handsomely compensated for his outings. No one ought get money for jam !! Quite simply..the club doesnt exist for him ( or anyone ) ..he plays for the club. Well...he used to !!

Neitz would stand down if one player on our list showed any leadership. Not one player on our list is a stand out replacement. Big problem, who will captian MFC in the future at the moment give it to the spiked hair support at least he is passionate about our club

Its called old age. Nothing lasts forever

You forget very quickly how well Neitz has led us in the past. He has carried the leadership burden with zero help, for the last 9 seasons.

As far as I'm concerned, nobody can lead the club at this point, so David deserves to keep his captaincy.

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Way back in March we contemplated the possibility of a Demon resurgence after Simon Goodwin’s summer of love. Many issues at the club had seemingly been addressed, key players were returning from injury and a brand new day was about to dawn. We imagined the coach pulling a rabbit out of a hat. The team would roar up the charts, push aside every opponent and make its way to a Grand Final ending in ultimate triumph with Goody and Max holding the premiership cup aloft under a shower of red and blue ticker tape.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
