The forwards don't have the confidence to lead straight and the half-forwards (what? we have half-forwards??) whoever they are, are much too slow when they do get the ball, and delivery is appalling.

We could so easily have matched them up to at least have time if we had some sort of delivery into the forward line.

There is absolutely no structure there.

Davey wasnt playing in the forward line was he? They have turned our crumber into a mid fielder. I dont think we have a forward half of the ground.

The key point is that any of our clearances were not effective.

However it should be added that whole forward line lacks teeth.

It needs to be a soda of pass into the F50 for them to win a contest.

Agree. But they said on post match radio about 6 to 7 weeks. However he still needs xrays.

i would like to see maric get a run if he has shown anything at sandy. he is a true crumber who knows where the goals are, and so often after the marking contest, the dogs just ran the ball out, no one on the ground...

whats the deal with Maric and yr 12 commitments? i've heard he wants to focus on VCE this yr, how much will that affect how much he plays?

Firstly when you win the ball out of the middle you are either kicking or running it through half forward and into the forward line.

The half forward line only comes into play when running the ball out of defence. Matthew Bate and Colin Sylvia need to be shown a tape of how Ryan O'Keefe goes about it. He pushes very hard to find space. Sydney players running out of defence have the skills to hit him and O'Keefe has the skills to get the ball deep into the forward line where there is a contest.

There is no longer a need for a contest at CHF anymore. Good teams are hitting a bloke on the lead (Riewoldt) or in space (O'Keefe). I believe we have the cattle, just not the smarts.

i have said it before and i will say it again now...i dont think marric will play at all this year...he goes to a private school in essendon grammar in the AGS and he will play footy for them which is of a fairly high standard for schoolboy footy but not high enough. He is doing all of the training but he is not playing for sandringham and his school commitments will come first for this year, just like it did for xavier ellis when he was drafted for hawthorn at the end of his year 11 at a private school.

Our forward line is full of static spectators all crammed in like sardines. By the time the ball arrives there is absolutely no room to move and no space to lead into which leaves Neitz and Robbo competing for the long bomb.

The forward pockets need to be away from the goals out wide and further toward forward flanks so they can run with the direction of the incoming ball for either a mark or crumbing the FF through timing their run to meet the incoming pass when it hits the FF and not running toward the ball with all the rest of the side show!

We have problems with the forward line fact of footy, the change of running direction, players running toward the goals with ball vs the forwards running/leading out (or should be running/leading) out to meet the ball. We solved this a couple of years ago by running the ball into the forward 50 ie play makers running toward the goal for longer duration. Our current attempts seem to be to kick from further out but to a congestion. I'm sure there are a few different ways to solve this fact of footy but our method is a mix of two approaches.

If you kick from outside 50 to the forwards you do so to leading players but we can't cos of the sheer weight of numbers in the forward line

Our forward line leading angles are all stuffed up too (well they were last year, haven't seen many leads this year yet). The best angle is player with ball running straight through center and lead is straight toward player, each degree this changes makes for more intercept opportunities, worse kicking angle to goal, and greater accuracy required by kicker etc. Our forwards also seem to be that grateful if we can actually get a lead that we're satisfied with leading to the worst realestate on the ground, lets try to own the prime areas, work out a way to do it.

And another thing......

When the opposition scores a behind we take far too long to bring the ball back into play. If you can count to 5 before the ball is back into play it it has taken too long!!! That then leaves the most used option of wide chip kicks and slooow ball movement up the ground

Bate (or Dunn) has to play CHF or thereabout. He can take a mark and he can kick 60m if needed.

Now that Bartram is back, and Rivers is not far behind (hopefully), could it be time to move Petterd to the half forward line?

Sylvia is meant to give us a contest in that area, but heaven forbid we give him such a huge task 5 years into his career

Our forward line...and I sue the trerm loosley..as it only applies to proximity and not ability !! was shizen houzen!! There is no movement.. no presenting.. infact not a lot of anything.

Im not sure if Davey was really playing on the wing...he just went looking for the ball !! lol

Agree with others...very few know how to weight a ball or deliver intelligently..that will make it hard work !!

I like Bate at CHF but honestly, he will struggle there if we continue to take so long to get the ball into the forward line considering he will be giving up height to almost all his opponents. I almost see Netiz/Newton as a better option if we are not getting the ball in quickly, with Bate closer to goal.
