Demons to destroy the overrated Glen-Fairies

Well, Round 1 is upon us

First, my suggested team to take on the hapless Dorks

Its a shame that Sylvia wont be playing, as I was looking forward more than anything to seeing him show the competition he has arrived with a monster game to open the season. But alas.

B - Bartram Carroll Bell

HB - Wheatley Rivers Petterd

C - Bruce Jones Green

HF - Robertson Dunn Garland

F - Newton Neitz Davey

R - White McLean McDonald

I/C - Moloney Meesen Buckley Yze

Emer - Whelan Holland Miller

I am expecting Bruce and McLean to pull their fingers out of their pooper and give us plenty of drive from the middle. These 2 guys really have to hit top form for us to be good all year.

Aaron Davey to run riot. I firmly believe this is his year.

One of the Glen-fairies to try and do something tough, before being ironed out by the big skipper and being stretchered off the ground.

Buckley to electrify the crowd with some scinitillating runs through the corridor.

Moloney, Jones and Junior to dominate the stoppages.

Bartram to remind u just how damn good he was in 2006.

Bell and Rivers to do their thing, and dominate in the air and on the ground.

Results

Melbourne 21.15 141

Hawthorn 13.12 90

Goals - Neitz Davey Newton 4, Buckley Robertson 2, Bruce McLean Dunn Moloney Meesen

Best - Davey, Jones, Buckley, Rivers, Bell, Bruce, Newton, McLean

Davey - 24 touches, 4 goals

McLean - 27 touches, 8 tackles

Buckley - 18 touches, 2 goals

Jones - 22 touches, 6 tackles

Newton - 14 touches, 11 marks, 4 goals 4 behinds

Injuries - NONE

Demons by 51 points. Bailey starts his coaching career in grand fashion.

Campbell Brown isn't playing. Does that void your prediction YM?

Regardless of our pre season this is the final nail in the coffin for us. We're done for in this game now

Great work by Bate to kick a goal without being selected in the side. I think I have underestimated his ability!

By the way Miller will play.

You mean the one limping around?

He will play

Great stuff Yze_Magic

You failed to mention the shock move of the day.

In an act of desperation by the Dorks, Buddy Franklin will be moved to CHB after Half time to try and stop a rampaging Brad Miller

Will that be before or after Jamar dominates the ruck and picks up 30 disposals around the ground? And at what stage of the game will the flying spaghetti monster make an appearance?

Have you bought your membership yet Yze_Magic?

No, Jaded

I always buy it at the gate in Round 1. Its tradition.

By the way, I spoke to Chris Connolly on the phone about half an hour ago. Bate definitely wont play, so I have edited my team to accomodate this

I just threw up in my mouth a little...

Thanks for the laugh, Yze_Magic *hug*

He still kicked a goal, this kid just doesn't give up! Can't wait til he actually gets a game this season, will kick 20.

the FSM will not make a public appearance unless there are many pirates there to worship him. The FSM has been busy around the rest of the world creating bad weather and natural disastors as a warning to us all that there are not enough pirates. To think his noodley appendage would make an appearance at a mere football game is wishful thinking indeed...

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Gold Coast

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
