Clinton Grybas Dead

Sad news....commentator Clinton Grybas (3AW) was found dead in his home this morning, Sat Jan 5.....news is currently breaking and on 3AW....

Absolutely terrible news.

He was probably the best commentator going around.

Condolences to his family and friends!

Clinton's work on Fox Footy most likely sold a lot of subscribers. His commentary since then has always been top notch, he always got me excited watching a game of footy on the tv while still making intelligent insights on the game, rather than resorting to just yelling.

He will be missed.

Far, far too young.

I am shattered, absolutely shattered.

I always wanted to work with him but unfortuantely never got the chance. He was the best commentator in the business bar none, radio or tv, he was brilliant at both.

Don't know what else to say

Tragic news for someone so young

I never thought a Television talkback show for footy would ever catch on, but Clinton made it work

One of the best commentators in the game, if not the best

RIP Clinton

I am shattered, absolutely shattered.

I always wanted to work with him but unfortuantely never got the chance. He was the best commentator in the business bar none, radio or tv, he was brilliant at both.

Don't know what else to say

There really isn't anything else to say, it is nothing short of a tragedy for his family and friends and for the sports media at large.

I must admit to feeling complete shock when I first read what had happened and there is still a strong feeling of disbelief.

This is a genuinely sad and tragic happening, and desperate a loss to all that have heard or seen him. He was fantastic and seemed highly professional at his job, and was extremely like-able in front of the camera. This is tragedy especially given he was so young.

My condolescences go out to his family and friends at this bloody awful time.

I don't know what to say. This is a complete shock!

I feel for his partner and family in this sad time.

Taken too young with the world at his feet.

RIP Clinton, you will be sorely missed.

Me too. I was a huge fan and he was a role model for me.

Why him of all people?

R.I.P. :(

Devastating for friends, family and fans alike.

Shocked and Stunned...

He was the face of fox-footy, and was the only man who could say with all seriousness that he was going to eclipse the great Commetti in terms of commentary brilliance in his career.

A great, great loss to the game, but more importantly a devastating loss to his family and close friends...

Clinton, our lives are poorer without you. What little you did for the game in your relatively short time will not be forgotten for decades to come. May you rest in peace.

Probably one of my favorite commentators of all time. His contribution to AFL was remarkable, whatever he did, whether it was commentating on TV or Radio or hosting those Talkback shows, he did a wonderful job. It was a huge shock when i heard the news. Rest in Peace Clinton.

Wow, my dad told me this on the phone last night and i nearly dropped it. I am extremely passionate about my footy and I just don't think fox sports will ever be the same again. Here is a clip of my all time fav commentator doing some of his best work:

It just occurred to me....

Clinton's voice will obviously be heard for years to come, whenever we review classic moments over the past 5+ years, where he did some of the finest commentary work in the land... How does this relate to us? Should Juice become the player we all hope he will, his MOTY will be replayed more times than I care to imagine, each time with Clinton's dulcet tones "He defied his own law!"

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm still wondering which way is up with this news. I can't imagine watching footy without his voice, which is pretty impressive given he's only been a regular for suchj a short time, comp[ared to the likes of Commetti, Lane etc etc...

Of Grybas/Melbourne moments I still have on tape the game against Freo in 04 (Brock's debut) where it bucketed raining in the second half and Vardy kicked a few goals to win it in the last quarter. He kicks one from the boundary that Clinton called perfectly. His entire last quarter call was brilliant.

When i heard the news, i was speechless and shocked.

He will be sadly missed and he was my favourite commentator.

Rest In Peace Clinton Grybas.

Memorable Commentary

"Its raining goals at AAMI Stadium"

"Long down the corridor, NEWWWTON!!"

"Davey with the steal, the snap and the finish"

Absolute shocked and devastated really.

When I saw the news headlines and they showed the picture of 3 Fox Footy reporters all in the commentary box, one of them Grybas, I wondered who it could have been that had died and could not have been more shocked when they said Grybas. I got that upset that it was as if I actually knew him personally.

Only the night before a friend and I were having a conversation about footy commentators and talking about Grybas, and about how fantastic and enthusiastic he was.

Rest in peace Clinton.

A complete and utter tradgedy. I'm still reeling.

Deepest sympathies to Clintons family and friends.

Rest In Peace Clinton Grybas.

It's unbelievable that this can happen to a person so young with his best years ahead of him.

The best commentator going around, not just in the AFL but Australian sport in general - I believe he was offered a contract to go to the States to work for ESPN but he turned it down to stay with Fox Footy and 3AW.

His death is just so hard to fathom - it's difficult to come to terms with.

My condolences to his family.

RIP Clinton

Nearly a week has passed and no cause of death published - maybe they don't want to release details until after funeral.

Far too young - far too much still to achieve ( and he had the potential to be anything) - will be sadly missed.

still no word yet...

Been so quiet on the issue i wonder if there was unusual circumstances. Shouldnt take this long for a autopsy.

Maybe his family wants to keep it private im not sure.

I thought they'd already determined he was sleepwalking, went up a ladder and fell down. Apparently he was a regular sleepwalker. Often woke up with bruises, cuts and scrapes. They said something about the fact that he was tired, overworked and stressed, and that when he got that way the sleepwalking worsened.

Unless I'm mistaken... That was what I read somewhere.

Yer but that wouldnt be the reason of death

  • 2 months later...

Channel 7 news just announced that the cause of his death was a combination of a food/drink allergy and a heart condition.

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

The Gold Coast Suns find themselves outside of the top eight for the first time since Round 1 with pressure is mounting on the entire organisation. Their coach Damien Hardwick expressed his frustration at his team’s condition last week by making a middle-finger gesture on television that earned him a fine for his troubles. He showed his desperation by claiming that Fox should pick up the tab.  There’s little doubt the Suns have shown improvement in 2025, and their position on the ladder is influenced to some extent by having played fewer games than their rivals for a playoff role at the end of the season, courtesy of the disruption caused by Cyclone Alfred in March.  However, they are following the same trajectory that hindered the club in past years whenever they appeared to be nearing their potential. As a consequence, that Hardwick gesture should be considered as more than a mere behavioral lapse. It’s a distress signal that does not bode well for the Queenslanders. While the Suns are eager to remain in contention with the top eight, Melbourne faces its own crisis, which is similarly deep-seated but in a much different way. After recovering from a disappointing start to the season and nearing a return to respectability among its peer clubs, the Demons have experienced a decline in status, driven by the fact that while their form has been reasonable (see their performance against the ladder leader in the Kings Birthday match), their conversion in front of goal is poor enough to rank last in the competition. Furthermore, their opponents find them exceptionally easy to score against. As a result, they have effectively eliminated themselves from the finals race and are again positioned to finish in the bottom half of the ladder.
