judging someone on whether or not they win a b and f

is a little rich

the question was do you think he is capable of playing 22 rounds of good footy.. which TJ never did

Well I just hope Col gets to the point where he attracts the oppositions best tagger every week like Trav did.

Can he get out of the rehab group first?

Correct.

FWIW for all his preseasons TJ was a chronic underperformer over his 10 years at MFC.

I reckon Id rather two Grinters than one TJ !! Sure Trapper had silky skills.. but it was a little like which Johnno is turnin gup . With Rodney you knew you had an impassioned 110% effort nutcase :) A bloke who would walk through fire ( and back again if there was a beer...hehe he)

The thing is you never doubted the committment or mindset ( I might think about that last bit !! lol ) . Col has to get his head straight, simple as that...all else will follow !!!!

Sylvia on song is an extremely handy footballer.. ................ crossed fingers !!

Rodney Grinter.... Now there is a name that deserves more discussion on this board.

Wish I could remember more specifics or his playing days, but what I do recall was his intensity.

Stinga is another that stands out.

Now back on topic:

Sylvia has the potential physically... I just hope the boy grows up sooner rather than later mentally and applies himself 110% on-field instead of off.

Col's demons and dragons are all in his head !! Its all there for him to revel in , if he wants. Up to him. I sense this will be the last year if he doesnt. Bailey doesnt stand for bullsh!t.

I recently read an interesting assessment of Sylvia by a club recruiting scout. He suggested that Sylvia doesn't have the nous or run hard enough to be a midfielder. He lays a lot of tackles because he's 2nd to the ball, and doesn't work hard enough to make position to receive the ball. He suggested that Sylvia is predominently a forward, because he's a good mark and kick, who can pinch hit in the midfield.

I'm hoping that Sylvia can improve his midfield capability with a full pre-season. If not, he may well be seen as a perennial underachiever.

he wont be an underachiever for long !! not at the MFC...not any more !!

edit .

p.s.

was that a Melbourne Scout ?

He is based in WA, and I doubt that he was Melbourne's scout. The whole basis of his post was that Masten is in out and out midfielder, whereas as Cotchin is a midfield/forward. He went on to say that Andrew Walker and Sylvia, who were both drafted early, were never going to be out and out midfielders.

I agree.. ( big of me huh...lol ) heheh

Col plays best down the lines.. is exceptional from wing to flank. He can play through the middle, in course of execution as such ..he's just not a midfielder if that makes sense.

In your eyes maybe Rhino

and FWIW....NOT MUCH!

i think 'the kid' is definately about to step up....and if he doesnt, we know where he will go...DB will NOT take it any longer...

What makes u think this?

would like to think the coach, young enough for good trade ....what is his full potential?

i just feel that it is time...we have seen glimpses of hope...i think it was mark riley that in the middle of the season said his attitude and the way he goes about his work really improved throughout the year...he has got new coaches to impress with no safety net below him...he has showed us glimpses of hope, ala against the bulldogs, the roos and collingwood...i dont have any evidence, i just feel that it is time, especially with a bunch of new coaches and a new air down at demonland. he may be in the side group but from what we have heard, this is the best pre season that colin has had

in 12 months we`ll all know the answer

Apart from all of his body issues, he also has an attitude problem IMHO.

Bailey needs to make him realise that the team he plays for no longer has a game-plan that revolves around 'kick it to Colin' (which was what he got at Bendigo).

When you think about it, he hasn't really had to fight for a senior position. He's been injured alot, and on the rare occasion when he's been fit, he would almost always get a game.

He's only played 9 less games than Brock... that almost doesn't seem possible, does it?

Sylvia has many issues none of which could stop him from playing footy. I think he has a big head and perhaps, and im only speculating from my watching of him, that he believes he is better than the team. He has had his fair share of injury and that is not his fault. I blame CAC and melbourne if they were aware he had OP when recruited. If they were not aware fair enough. I really dont know how col will turn out. Last year i thought he would have a good year and i was proved wrong. Perhaps he will thrive of DB but time will tell. I just hope hes a late developer like Gottard at stkilda who took years and now is a good player. Sylvia will never be a fantastic player - nor will he be a champion at the dees but he would be usefull to have in the side. His OP will restrict him from the midfield so running off half forward would be good. And farren Ray was picked at 5 wasnt he?

When I look at Colin (even from the first time I saw him) he looks perfectly built for it. OP aside he frustrates me that he hasn't got the best out of himself. I htink everyone has heard that it is in his head...hopefully a new coach will let him start afresh. Get him right and it could be like having a brand new player.

Since he has been at MFC, I dont think there has been that "Kick it to Colin" arrangement so I dont think that plagues him.

Aside from his OP and the inabiilty to put in a full pre season, Colin has the lack the coaching and player development pre and during his MFC time.

I would hope that with Bailey's teaching style of coaching that Colin learns and benefit.

Which player has Colin been favoured over to get a place in the side? Colin has fought for a place in the side as hard as Brock has. He earned his place on merit. Statements to the contrary are a fallacy.

Bottom line both Brock and Colin are in their fifth years of AFL footy. If Brock is fit and Colin gets a pre season under his belt then they both need to deliver and produce.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
