King in, Blake out!

As he is out of contract this year i reckon there could be a chance that he might be hurting enough to leave, especially after playing 22 games this year.

I have seen a bit and while he is not the greatest ruckman, he is decent, young and better than PJ or Jamar.

it would be great if we could get him but i doubt it. geelong will wanna hold onto him for after king. worth a go tho

No thanks, is a back-up ruckman at best.

No point in picking him up.

pop quiz

pick a melbourne ruckman better than him ?

Three things i've seen Jamar and Johnson do better than Blake.

#1 - Actually get a hitout

#2 - Hit a target

#3 - Take a mark

It's harsh to be dropped for a grand final, but King is the better ruckman.

Actually blake has done well over the year in terms of possessions, marks and hit outs, would have averaged better than either of our 2 bak up rucks

I agree. If we're trying to weed out the duds with poor disposal from our list, there is no way we should be going after the player with the worst footskills in the league. Even if he is marginally better than our two backups, he's not close to being a number one ruckman, which is what we need to focus our attention on given that White has only two or three years left. Fair enough question though, condemned.

............ on given that White has only two or three years left.

If we are to become serious contenders we need to adjust that time frame so that 2008 is whites last year as 1st Ruck..or we're just kidding ourselves !!!

Blake is nowhere near the answer though.

Whilst Blake isn't a dud, he ain't far off it. His mid-fielder's around him make him seem that much better than what he actually is.

same thing could be leveled at some a lot closer to home !!

If you can’t keep Steven King out of the team, you are not much chop.

Blake is just like Guy Richards, too light to have the necessary impact in the ruck we need.

all semantics really.. Geelong wont be wanting to part with Blake... fine by me :)

...and I don't think Blake would want to part with Geelong. Sure, King got picked instead. However, King doesn't have much left in him and Geelong is pretty young. Why would you give away that potential, at a Club where you have made some mark for yourself, and risk it all for the unknown? I'd stay.

PJ would have done just as well given the same amount of game time and opportunity, i'm sure of it.

Blake's season is simply the product of being given every opportunity due to Brad Otten's injury in mid-season, and Stephen King getting old.

He's not a bad player, pretty handy 2nd ruck, but IMO never going to be a first string ruckman.

The only thing that PJ, Jamar and Blake have in common is that none of them are up to AFL football.

Geelong has made the right decision in dumping Blake for King. Blake is an ordinary ruckman carried in a very good side.

J Stynes!

I think PJ can come good. I remember watching him in a forward pocket vs the filth QB and he con move pretty well I was suprised how quick he was. When we lose JW and he gets more time in the middle I think he can be a good ruckman, he definitely has the right shape to push the lighter ruckmen out of the way and stand his ground against the bigger men around the ground. Why would we try someone new who's not going to be great. Jamar can go and we should draft someone young to back up PJ.

Good grief, the SEN reporter at the GF parade in his infinite wisdom has just asked Mark Blake 'Are you disappointed to be missing out on playing in a Grand Final?'....

Pathetic journalism at its very worst...

What was Blake's response?

did he turn around and hit him?

If we chased him - I reckon each one of us would be able to catch him........

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
