Five Demons back for Sandy in VFL finals

According to a report in Inside Football -

  • Five Demons from Sunday's game v Carlton will be back at Sandringham for this week and the remainder of the finals. They are Jace Bode, Lynden Dunn, Ryan Ferguson, Chris Johnson and Michael Newton, and

  • Zebra midfielder David Gallagher will miss the rest of the season (and no doubt a good part of next year) as he requires a knee reconstruction.

From the above information it would appear that the retirements of Clint Bizzell and Byron Pickett are effective immediately and that Mark Jamar will be going into surgery as mooted elsewhere. Chris Lamb could also be back this week from a hamstring injury.

I've heard that Jamar has bone spurs on both heels & has played all this year under duress.

Really? I had spurs on my heels and I can tell you that I find it hard to believe he went the whole year playing with them, especially considering his position.

Newton will run amok now at VFL level

He will kick 10 this week

Totally!!

Does anyone know whether retirement as AFL player automatically excludes players from playing remainder of year with VFL affiliate?? If so seems wrong. Surely if Sandy had lot of injuries in next game they would be able to bring in AFL affiliate players who have played required number of games for Sandy in 07. Would have to include Byron and Bizz!

Very much agree the YM

Newton and Dunny should kick about 16 between them

will be interesting to see how Bode plays at sandringham now he has had AFL experience, would think he would be a big part of their midfield

chris J and fergs, along with lamby would boost their backline extremely

Still think Bizz and Byron should play out the year with Sandy and help them go for their fourth flag in a row. Could finish their careers playing in a premiership.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
