how many more players have to go from our side before draft?

You only have to draft three, so technically no one else... but you'd have to think Bode is a monty to be promoted. I'd expect at least another four or five delistings/trades.

or Henderson or McEvoy or Morton, or Palmer, or .... it'll be a very good player.

Warnock's still contracted for another year I think.... Danny Ward might be under the pump.

Betts kicking five won't have helped his claims.

Just throwing this one in there but what about trading Bate?

NO!

Just throwing this one in there but what about trading Bate?

ROFL

NO!

what is the point of trading bate. he is one of 3 youngsters on our list who has the potential to be an A-grader (along with mclean and sylvia). if we trade him, for say pick 15ish, we simply pick up a kid who might also have the potential to be an A-grader, or could be a miss and turn out shite.

just makes no sense to trade one of your most talented youngsters with a huge upside who is only 20 yrs old.

pick 4 pick hopefully be Cale Morton is he slips through (he could be pick 1).

if not Morton, then we could go Palmer, Ebert, Masten (i.e. a highly rated midfielder) or we could go for the best key position prospect in the draft in Henderson.

PACE... we are desperate for some pace both through the middle, and out of the backline. Especially if when they give Ward the boot.

Bartram's return will help us a lot, but that's still not enough.

I have no idea who we will pick, Kreuser and Cotchin will be the top 2, who Carlton grabs at three will be interesting...but I've heard some good things about Henderson.... I'd also like to trade to get at least one more top ten pick to get another midfielder, but that obviously means giving up some quality.

! - Initial Delistings/Retirements

Already Retired (3)

Brown, Bizzell, Pickett

Should retire (2)

We've just finished 3rd last, Ward and Holland are both 30. For mine they shouldn't be kept.

Holland - Slow,2 grab mark and an average kick.

Ward - Quick and runs hard but disposal and decision making let him down.

Delist (3)

Ferguson - 26, 5 years on the list, courageous but not AFL standard.

Godfrey - 26, 8 years on the list, has got the best out of his talents but disposal and decision making not AFL standard.

Warnock - 23, 3 years (?) on list, a good VFL player but not AFL standard.

Neville - 20 in February 08, has had injuries, maybe a candidate for delisting and rookie listing.

List After Initial Retirements/Delistings

25 and under in 2008

Bartram, Bate, Bell, Bode, Buckley, Davey, Dunn, Frawley, Garland, Jamar, C Johnson, P Johnson, Jones, Maclean, Miller, Moloney, Newton, Petterd, Rivers, Sylvia, Weetra,

26 and older in 2008 ( - 2008 Birthday)

Bruce - 29 in Sept, Carroll - 28 in October, Green - 27 in March, Johnstone - 28 in July, McDonald - 32 in October, Neitz - 33 in January, Robertson - 30 in November, Wheatley - 27 in April, Whelan - 29 in November, White - 31 in February, Yze - 31 in September.

Trade Bait.

We've just finished 3rd last. We have some good talent under 25. If we want to get extra picks in the Top 10 or Top 20 to add to that under 25 talent base then the players on our list who may unlock that are Bruce, Green and Johnstone. All have talent but have not displayed it consistently. If we have to wait for a spine consisting of Frawley, Dunn, Newton, maybe Garland to mature before we can have a serious crack at a flag are those 3 going to be part if it. If not then are we not better of seeing if they can unlock a Top 10/20 pick?

U got most of that right. I love Godfrey but enough is enough and MFC need to look forward. This means that we must get rid of him.

Holland has shown some accuracy infront of goals this year but again too slow. Same as ward. I think its time to flood that defence with younger players. I disagree with your comment over Warnock...i think he has shown some glimpses and next year is still rebuilding in my opinion so lets replace Holland or Ward with Warnock.

I wont comment on Neville cause i havnt really watched any of him so ill leave it up to others.

As for trades: this will sound harsh but it needs to be done:

Robbo- Late 3rd rounder, early 4th

Bruce - Late 2nd early 3rd rounder

TJ - Late 2nd early 3rd rounder

Hopeful team lineup 2009: Bartram

B: Carroll ? Bell

HB: Rivers Frawley Pettard

C: Green Jones Dunn

HF: Bate ? Sylvia

F: Davey Newton ?

R: ? McLean Moloney

I.C: Bartram, P.Johnson, ?, ?

Surely Godfrey has to be axed.

I'd keep him on as depth, Batram's injury run this year shows that it's handy to have a backup and Godfrey has done pretty well this year.

The people i think should be on the move are:

Miller (Trade/Delist)

Ward (Delist)

Fergs (Trade/Delist)

CJ (Trade)

Jamar (Trade)

or Henderson or McEvoy or Morton, or Palmer, or .... it'll be a very good player.

We have to get another pick in the top 10, pick 6-10 and hopefully closer to 6. We need to get a quick midfielder and a tall forward or back. We need to aim for Henderson and Ebert (Cotchin won't be around at pick 4).

of the teams behind us on picks:

#5 Bulldogs

#6 The Scum

#7 Freo

#8 Lions

Freo will be the one more willing to give away the pick, given they believe there time is now.

The dogs, Bombers and Lions will all go for the youth option.

With this in mind, i reckon we should target Henderson with the #4 pick (as the Dogs will get him if he's there), then if we get another top 10 pick, go after our quick midfielder (hopefully Ebert). We'd then have pick 21, where we could draft a ruckman or maybe get Selwood if he's still around (but i doubt it).

Ward and CJ are gone. Keep Godders and Ferg.

I'd also like to trade to get at least one more top ten pick to get another midfielder, but that obviously means giving up some quality.

Yes that's the downside, you gotta trade quality to get quality. But lets be realistic, i don't think we will be a serious contender until 2009, or even later :(

The likes of Johnstone (great game today), Bruce, Green could provide us that first round pick we need to chase.

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

A few years ago, the Melbourne Football Club produced a documentary about the decade in which it rose from its dystopic purgatory of regular thrashings to the euphoria of a premiership victory. That entire period could have been compressed in a fast motion version of the 2025 season to date as the Demons went from embarrassing basket case to glorious winner in an unexpected victory over the Dockers last Saturday. They transformed in a single week from a team that put in a pedestrian effort of predictably kicking the ball long down the line into attack that made a very ordinary Bombers outfit look like worldbeaters into a slick, fast moving side with urgency and a willingness to handball and create play with shorter kicks and by changing angles to generate an element of chaos that yielded six goals in each of the opening quarters against Freo.

  • NON-MFC: Round 07

Round 7 gets underway in iconic fashion with the traditional ANZAC Day blockbuster. The high-flying Magpies will be looking to solidify their spot atop the ladder, while the Bombers are desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top eight. Later that evening, Fremantle will be out to redeem themselves after a disappointing loss to the Demons, facing a hungry Adelaide side with eyes firmly set on breaking into the top four. Saturday serves up a triple-header of footy action. The Lions will be looking to consolidate their Top 2 spot as they head to Marvel Stadium to clash with the Saints. Over in Adelaide, Port Adelaide will be strong favourites at home against a struggling North Melbourne. The day wraps up with a fiery encounter in Canberra, where the Giants and Bulldogs renew their bitter rivalry. Sunday’s schedule kicks off with the Suns aiming to bounce back from their shock defeat to Richmond, taking on the out of form Swans. Then the Blues will be out to claim a major scalp when they battle the Cats at the MCG. The round finishes with a less-than-thrilling affair between Hawthorn and West Coast at Marvel. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
