Hughes, Neaves, Hayes, Neville

Are these players going to get a game this year or does bodes elevation rule them out?

I actually think the cut off date is on tomorrow (thursday).

But considering Hughes (coming back from injury), Neville, Hayes and Weetra all played 2's on the weekend it would be unlikely. Also Neaves had a run in the 2's two weeks ago so it would also be doubtful for him too.

Who out of these players does everyone want on our list next year?

Neaves is a definite imo, he is only just behind Jamar and PJ but is much younger.

Hayes has shown enough to get his second year on the rookie list, next year hopefully he'll get some time with the seniors. Same for Weetra

I have major doubts about Neville unfortunately, he looks to have shown a little, has he had many injuries?

Hughes I don't think deserves promotion at the end of the year

What has hayes shown this year? That he can wander off when he feels like it then come back and play, im sorry but do we need another player like this, NO!

Hughes should be selected ahead of him obviously. Strong performance after coming of injury. Especially with our ageing forward line.

I don't think he just wandered off, I believe the club gave him time to sort of some personal issues that he's been dealing with over the last couple of years. He has actually shown that he does have talent, he just needs time to develop and get consistent, I think he's worth an extra couple of years because he has alot of potential.

Is it a common opinion these days that players are expected to perform in their first year or they're considered crap?

I don't know the rules too well, but I heard that we can have one third-year rookie on our list.

If we could, I'd retain Neaves on the rookie list for another year and see how he develops.

Weetra was a draftee last year; so he has a contract for next year. He was a bottom age speccy that CAC is renowned for, so, expect hime to be around for a couple of more years, at least. Neaves should definitely be perservered with. I believe that rookies can now be on the list for three years rather than two; he may be rookied again. Hayes is a no-brainer - re-rookie. I was not a big wrap for Bode, but, I am glad to be proved wrong. I expect him to play a couple of senior games this year and be promoted onto the list for next year.

I don't know much about Neville and have no idea how the club views him; being on the list for two years and still struggling to get out of Sandy's seconds does not auger well. Having said that, it was only last year that Newton was winning the VFL second's goal kicking. Hughes shows glimpses but, he is very inconsistent; I am not sure what the club will do with him.

As Bode has been elevated, I believe MFC must offer him a contract for the next two years - 2008/09 seasons (or already has).

That's based on reading about Warnock's elevation on here, so it may be wrong.

Hayes and Neaves must be retained. Hughes i am not sure will make it and I don't think Warnock is at AFL standard and i would look to trade or delist him. Neville will be delisted.

I would play all of the young guys in the last couple of games to give them experience. Winning is now irrelevant.

I don't know that winning is ever irrelevant Redleg. Footy is very much a confidence game.

The next four games will do nothing for confidence next year. If you wanted to win you would play our best side. I would rather play the younger players and give them game time and maybe a couple of better players from the draft to join them next year. That would be worth more than a win which means absolutely nothing, like beating beating a tanking Carlton in the last round for example.

hard to be consistent when he has been out injured, but i think you will find when playing in sandy 1's he averages nearly 2 goals a game which i think is very good for a half forward.

Strange that people were pretty keen to get rid of pickett but still want to keep hayes!

True

Pickett is 10+ years older.

They don't have to offer him anything.

They can play him for a few games at the end of this year and then give him the arse for next season. He is not locked in for next year now and i would say the games he does get in the next few weeks will be a testm for him.

I agree, his best footy is well and truly behind him (which gets bigger every year...). Hayes is a risk, no one could argue that, but if the risk pays off then the rewards will be very, very good, he's a pretty cheap risk though compared to what we gave up for Pickett (and paid)

yeah i dont think bodes elevation puts him permanently on the list because when bartram comes off the long term injury list bode drops back to rookie status...

What did we give up and pay for pickett?

I think Pickett is on 300K a year, compared to Hayes 30K, big difference...

True, but (hopefully) there are going to be about eight delisted from our list at the end of the year, and as the draft is not really that deep then I'd prefer him on our list rather than a kid who will most likelt get delisted after two years anyway.

Weetra was a 2006 national draft selection so he has another year on his contract with the seniors.

I think one of Bode & Neaves will be promoted and the other will become a 3rd year rookie.

Hughes only chance of staying a rookie (he'll be 3rd year too) is if both Bode and Neaves go up.

Neville will almost certainly be gone. Based solely on Barry and other Sandringham watchers comments and the fact he can't solidify a spot in Sandringham's firsts.

Hayes seems to have got back on track and shown some promise. Likely to be made a second year rookie.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
