Presume this thread is past players? No other context to go off.

14 Former Dees currently playing at other clubs, compared to other club’s former players at new clubs.

I just want to know how many players are coming in tbf.

Hopefully one big name this season comes in 🤞

Maybe not now (haven’t checked), but GWS at one stage would’ve had way more than 13.

21 flag 5 yrs ago and player movement occurs everywhere, some of those players left due to no opportunity in 21-23, some got pot of gold and home sickness, some created poor culture & some got selfish chasing brighter lights,

Even though he retired, I think Harmes is still on Dog’s list and if he is that’s 15.

Any other club beating that?

Howe as well.

Reckon out of all of them Bedford is the one that got away

He’d be a shoe in every week in King’s system

Melbourne's record is 16 past VFL players in 1908 were playing for other teams. There are currently 15 past Melbourne players on other teams' list which ranks equal fourth.

I believe the overall record is 29 past GWS players in 2017 with other clubs (I have excluded Fitzroy -> Brisbane).

Awesome, thanks! Didn’t think to check wheelo.

What’s the overall record for a club? Can I guess GWS at… 26 players?

Sorry, I edited my post before you saw my addition! 29 past GWS players in 2017 (excluding players who went from Fitzroy to Brisbane post merger).

Team lists are only available since 2012, so prior to that I have only included players who actually played a game in the given season.

No all good! Wowzers, 29 players, more than I thought. 3/4 of a list essentially at other clubs. Goes to show much talent went through there

Howe as well.

Yes had him, but didn’t include his name.

Thanks.

Pretty hard to beat the expansion clubs given the extra list players allowed, when they set up their clubs.

How about coaches?

We've got Fagan at the top and Yze and McQualter at the bottom.

Luke Beveridge played for us, but didn't coach for us. Does that still count?

If so, Alistair Clarkson comes in.

That would make five. A pretty solid effort.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.
