Good effort. I just worry that if we want to seriously contend this year, we can't let quarters like that last one happen. I think a team like North would just steamroll us.

Looking at the ladder I'm not sure percentage will be a big determinant for us but not running out the game is not great.

All we need is for north to drop one and their percentage will crash and we'll be level on points. So I think it's worth trying to stay in touch with them.

I also think it's absolutely worth making sure we don't accidentally drop to 4th and play them in week one of finals.

Great effort today. Everyone who needed to step up did so. Big games from EMac and L.Pearce (guess I’ll bring back the clarifying L for this game!).

Why do people plan important life events when the Dees are playing? Anyway, not being in attendance, I did witness the all-important rock-paper-scissors on the broadcast @Timothy Reddan-A'Blew Though not sure who won!

Even though the scoreboard was almost as lopsided as in other games we’ve played against the Eagles—and maybe this is the Daisy halo effect at work—but they looked more cohesive. And based on their record, I knew they wouldn’t drop their heads in the last quarter. Please come home one day, Daisy.

I liked that Mick tried Chaplin in the middle. We may as well try everything. I'd like to see O'Hehir have a go, but probably need to be patient on that.

When Zanks kicked that first one, I was so glad, because an early goal for Eden is generally a sign of at least one more to follow – huge confidence player and also benefits when we play direct so she can time her body work. Good to see a bit of crumb from the likes of Pisano, Wotherspoon and Mahoney (the latter needs to take the first option; it’s all learning).

Favourite moment: Goldrick second-effort run-down tackle. Always hungry.

How does any of this stack up against better quality? I guess we’ll find out.

Quick turnaround to next week against the Gold Coast on the GF Public Holiday Friday.

Also (away from my wall of text), I'd like to recommend people have a listen to the DeeBrief podcast's interview with Saraid Taylor. Some interesting reflections on where the competition is at, in particular in terms of what's expected beyond contracted hours and in the pre-pre-season. She also speaks very humbly about her season so far.

Haha yes. I actually think the W team is kind of lacking in inventive nicknames. "Oats" for Ebert was good, but I doubt many would get the reference from Big Brother a decade ago!

Sadly I got the reference immediately 😅

Today I trialled “Oats” for Layla. It didn’t take off because maybe I’m the only one who remembers it. But I’m with Radar on this, she wants to persist with making it stick, so we’ll make it happen 👊🏼

So did I, ridiculously. I blame it on the tune being extremely catchy and coming into my head every time I've read the word "oats" since then. Hopefully the nickname will stick despite being quite niche, those are the best ones!

Better than all the other boring "-o" and "-y" ones! Hanksy, Edo, Kate-o, Paxy, Goldie, Fitzy, etc. I do like "Heater" just because it's so fitting. I hear Saraid as "Raider" but "Radar" also works for a defender!

We debuted a new handheld banner today…

Very happy with the games from Pisano and Wotherspoon. Alyssia particularly seemed confident and decisive. Really looked like she belonged.

Best game this year by a country mile from Loz Pearce. I wonder if not having Campbell as back up meant she spent more time in the ruck and that is best for her. I don't think her resting in the forward line is a great idea - if she's fit and firing have her do the bulk of the ruck work and let her come off when she needs a break.

I'm loving E Mac's terrier ball winning, but I've been a little concerned for a few weeks with her disposal at times, both in decision making and execution. Hopefully just a temporary glitch!

You said, “EPIC fail, media team” and I thought maybe they’ve left one goal out, or maybe they’ve included WCE’s goals along with ours, but this is next level inexcusable and I think @Jaded No More needs to put her CV in at the Club 🙂

Speaking of epic fails, we were expecting one pregame yesterday. Raising the banner at Casey is oftentimes fraught with danger but especially so when even the regulars were remarking about how extremely windy it was. But we managed to get it up without any casualties 😁

This is the worst that happened…

Could’ve been worse though, North a couple of weeks ago…

I’m very busy critiquing Brownlow looks.

Talk to me tomorrow.

...and have now done so. The message "will be passed on to the team".

I added that these sorts of things from time to time are getting negative attention on here, that I thought the Club might be concerned about, and was there a specific person vetting things before they're posted? "No, it's a team, each responsible for different parts of media". I asked if there was someone who could call me to chat about the general issue (in the spirit of helping address this negative view of the Club) "I don't think so; it's a team".

I asked for the specific matter and the general matter to be passed on.

Link as posted earlier now works (I think)(will make my original post - when it was showing the men's Pies game - look silly now!! Oh well...) Otherwise, to the Club website.

Enjoy.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #3 Christian Salem

Salem proved to be a valuable contributor as a reliable and solid one-on-one medium-sized defender in what was undoubtedly his most impressive season since the premiership year. He remains a highly capable rebounding option for the Demons as he approaches his 200th game at the club.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #4 Judd McVee

Following an injury-interrupted start to the season, McVee struggled to maintain the standard he established in 2025 as he pursued an expanded role within the team structure. He remained a firm fan favourite and the club had hoped to negotiate a new contract with the former rookie selection from Western Australia, whose partner, Lily Johnson, plays for Melbourne's AFLW side. Those hopes were dashed when he expressed his desire to return to his home state and play for Fremantle. Like all players who have worn the red and blue and are leaving this year, we wish him well in the future.
