Yes thatโ€™s an odd call. Retain Henderson and delist Sestan and Kynan Brown. Zero sense!!

henderson plays a different role - we've just lost spargo, who is a similar style of player

we are far too conservative with list management, if we were stephen wells and andrew mackie, theyd both be gone and theyd find a shrewd pickup elsewhere, having said that no one already delisted as raised an eyebrow for me at all except maybe jacob blight who reportedly did a medical at the filth.

but surely in 12 months and 5 afl games they could tell henderson was best going to have a similar output next year and instead go and find someone who has a higher ceiling or more room to grow. even the fact they said they had offered spargo a deal confuses me.

next year ive got sparrow, johnson and jeffo in might sights. probably all 3 at some stage get new deals but what do they show in the next 12 months that says yep i'm going to play impactful afl games and be part of the next dynasty, likewise mackie and wells would not have given howes 2 years in june, it would have been wait till post trade and then maybe heres 12 months if we cant see something else we like with more significant afl output, theres a few "inspector gadget" type vfl interceptors in the fothergil-round-mitchell hunt who surely can show more than year 5-6 of howes, and if not then 12-24 months whatever their draft contract is and go and look again

instead of trying to always fill the roll of the player before them henderson --> spargo, sharp --> neal-bullen that fits 1 game plan and 1 play style why dont we try something different. go and get 3 small goalkicking tackling forwards and lets be the most dangerous ball on the deck forward line in the comp if we arent going to have anyone to mark it. viney look mate you're not attending a single centre bounce next year, you are the half forward go and stalk the stoppage and tackle thats your roll now and if its not him its alright langdon your wing is now lindsays and culleys or lindsays and windsors youre the HF and lets go and see who the next mcvee or dempsey is and find some 18yo's for the rookie list. point being hendersons 2026 output isnt going to wow any of us and likely we will be having the same debate or all calling for him to be delisted next year, wouldn't you rather the raw talent like a sestan and see where they can get to in 2-3 years and watch them develop instead of just a known depth go-er

If we define a function;

and in the formula, x = 190;

we get โ€˜2026โ€™. Make of this what you will.

So far the only delisting I have an issue with is Sestan. We're desperate for quality kicking and he was doing a great job before his injury. Definitely worth persisting with to see if he could adjust to AFL pace.

i agree fwiw

i don't see henderson ever being a contributor at afl level - hope i'm wrong and he turns into a mature age star! - and i presumed he would not earn another contract

Jack Henderson surely would be highly unlikely to be retained. He started ok but quickly was found not to be up to the required standard. He then struggled at VFL level and was ultimately injured by seasons end.

2024 VFL Henderson has 17 games with 20+ possessions and 10 games with 5+ tackles.

2025 He has 1 and 2 and lacked any of the zip and agility he showed in spades the year before.

I suggest the groin problem that finished his season were present for a lot longer.

If the case and if confident his groin issues are passed him I can get why they might retain him.

ARROGANCE AND IGNORANCE. Thatโ€™s the Cats culture. How wonderful they are !!!

Geelong coach Chris Scott and star Bailey Smith have both apologised to women they aimed verbal outbursts at.

Smith's incident took place on Wednesday, while Scott reportedly brought an AFL staffer to tears after the qualifying final.

Makes a lot of sense. Henderson's ball use is far superior. He was made the scape goat after our 0-5 start. He wasn't given a mid role at Casey, where he predominantly played at Werribee with HB which saw him get drafted. He was starved as a high HF then had groin issues the 2nd half of the year.
Cheap and easy option to keep as a rookie.

Past post I believed we should of kept Sestan (probably will get picked up by another AFL club) , are we going to get someone better ?

  • REPORT: Carlton

    The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: โ€œIs Melbourne even at the ground?โ€ Moments later, as Carltonโ€™s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demonsโ€™ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.ย
