Men’s and women’s teams both out on the park together. Training separately but geez it’s good to see them all out there.

The boys are all in trakkies and puffas, the girls are in shorts and sleeveless guernseys. Just sayin’ 😉

She’s in really good spirits. She said she’s happy to be only missing half the season, not the whole season. Now there’s a glass half-full person if ever I saw one.

@binman Kolt, Sharpie and Jai qualify for Casey finals. If Howes plays next week (vs Collingwood) he won’t qualify. This is according to Sharpie and confirmed by Chappy, except Chappy wasn’t sure about Howes.

Thank you! How's she going? Did she say anything about her knee?

She didn’t mention it and I didn’t ask about it. She trained separately though. She’s her usual awesome bubbly self.

Had a chat with our #33 Lily Johnson. She’s loving being a Demon and loves living in Melbourne. Her partner feels the same way

😉

Sharp is playing his 17th AFL game this week - I'm pretty sure the limit is 12 to be eligible for VFL finals.

I would have thought Howes would be okay either way as he has only played 10 AFL games, but perhaps the rule is less than 12 AFL games.

Someone should tell Sharpie 😂

He was very confident about the fact that he qualifies and he’s not even close

Right in behind Ghosty.

WOMEN

Of the named 21, no Lauren Pearce (but that's not unusual for Loz). Molly O'Hehir on the bike, in trainers and didn't train but another trackwatcher chatted to her and she said she is playing (perhaps a corkie from training yesterday?). Kate Hore also did not join the main group but was moving more freely than on Wednesday. I reckon she will still be a "test" for tomorrow. I reckon if either of the two don't get up perhaps Goldie comes in?

No soccer balls for the women but they played short-field American Football! Loads of rehabbers working away.

MEN

The named team all present and didn't spot any of the emergencies - Billings, Adams or AJ - maybe they will all have preferred a full training day with Casey? No rehabbers.

This isn't Ghostwriter-level insight, but I did see Georgia Gall down the local shops a few days ago and my medical diagnosis based on "casually strolling around a shopping centre with a teammate" is that she'll be good to go next week. This is the most intel I've ever been able to contribute and definitely my most random "Demons in the wild" encounter for some time.

And good intel on Georgia as well. She trained apart from the group and looked very comfortable joining in main training towards the end. Harvey will be sad to hear that after he left the soccer ball did come out and they had the choice between American Footy and soccer. Kate Hore appeared to be doing a fitness test but the result wasn't evident although she looked pretty comfortable to me.

The training session for the women went for longer than I could stay, and I left at 11.30. Lots of low kicks into a net about chest marking height.

There is a fantastic spirit amongst the girls, it's great to see.

There was also a young (from my perspective) lady having her 14 birthday today with a sign asking for a pair of boots (something I've never really understood), and she got them! Thanks Kossie, you've made someone's day!

You wouldn’t have known it was cold and damp such was their gaiety. When they came to the boundary for a team huddle or a water break they were actually singing. And whenever they had to wait for, say, the field to be set up, instead of just standing there, they’d spontaneously start dancing. Endless energy and enthusiasm. They’re an absolute joy to watch.

I hope the men’s team stink doesn’t rub off on the women’s team.

The AFLW team is far more mature to let that happen, but it does have an ability to sneak up on you.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #42 Aidan Johnson

The VFL premiership player was recruited from Werribee to alleviate Melbourne’s forward line woes and give a chop out in the ruck, but he managed only five senior matches in his first season at the club. At times, he was a dominant force at VFL level.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #44 Luker Kentfield

An exciting young key forward, Kentfield was selected in the 2024 mid-season draft but has yet to make his AFL debut. He was sidelined by a severe bout of pneumonia over the summer, which consequently limited his pre-season. Upon his return a month into the season, he commenced in defence but ultimately impressed with his progress at Casey, particularly in the latter part of the season as a strong marking goal kicking forward.

  • AFLW REPORT: West Coast

Melbourne’s response to last week’s heartbreak was emphatic, as the Demons delivered a statement win over West Coast at a windswept Casey Fields. All of the pre-match hype surrounded the coach’s box matchup of Mick Stinear up against his apprentice, Daisy Pearce along with the gloomy weather forecast. In the end, it was less about tactical chess and more about Melbourne’s relentless execution. With rain looming, the DeeArmy and early birds snapped up the best undercover viewing spots.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: West Coast

Epic battle alert.  This Sunday, Casey Fields hosts a coach’s showdown pitting the wits of the master Mick Stinear (92 games, 71.7% win rate) against his protégé Daisy Pearce (16 games, 43.8%). Still early in her coaching journey, Daisy’s record doesn’t yet reflect her impact — but she’s already the best-performed coach at West Coast.Dais’ is mythic.  Like Katniss Everdeen, everyone either wants to kiss her, kill her (sporting metaphor) or be her.  Toothers Daisy Pearce is a role model, someone admired for their heart, humility and humour.

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.
