My query on AJ is that he's been manhandled whenever he's gone into the ruck. I like work at ground level in the stoppage and in the forward half though. But he doesn't look threatening as a scoreboard option.

But let's see how he goes. I'm hoping we can lay 10+ forward 50 tackles. Do that and we'll be in the game if we take our chances when they present.

He's only played 2 games and those rucks were Witts and Lachy Keefe - both pretty tall big bodies. Given he's a back up ruckman I think we can be OK about him doing that. IMO its better than JvR and we get a lot of aggro, hard at the ball and can mark in the fwd line.

Apparently Viney's symptoms didn't appear until the Thursday following the game and its at that point he entered the concussion protocols.

Surely it from the time he sustains the concussion? Anyone know what the rules are re this?

No idea of the rules, but if there was treatment that would have started earlier, but wasn't started until the following Thursay, you could argue that justifies the extra delay. Even if there is no such treatment, the fact that he kept playing could also argue for extra recovery time being needed.

Best team we have had on the park all year.

Like the forward line, much better than last week.

No excuses to not be competitive this week.

Agreed.

I still think our weakest links are too weak to have us take games against this sort of opponent to anywhere near a win but hopefully we can push them to within a few goals or so before it blows out late.

That's provided we don't use Clarry as a tagger. Worst move ever that telegraphs to the opposition that 'we aren't winning this so i'm just gonna limit the blow out" and hands the oppo a massive win from the get go. They don't have to think about covering our best mid - extractor / distributor (when he's on) at all

If we're tagging Neale ...Sparrow (who's in no man's land) and a bit from others like Spargo (mostly ineffective atm anyway)

McVee to Zorko

I hate honourable losses but those weak links are presently uber putrid with not much at Casey to replace in a form sense (yet).

Will be interesting to see how the Umpiring Fraternity respond to a mild criticism by Razor, when he referred to the current group as "mob" during a recent interview on Fox.

Funny how certain players of the Big Clubs are the expert exponents of the "free kick" in the push, trip, hit mark area.

Either something is not right with May or he’s a shadow of his former self and I query giving him an extra year in 2026

Plugger Mac is by some margin the best tall defender

Yea, he's not the player he wad.

But without Lever , Tmac is stil doing really well.

Fritta out.

Maybe Jvr.

Hopefully Melksham is good to go.

Turner forward.

Not sure who for Jvr.

Maybe we need him for ruck.

But his forward capabilities have gone south big-time.

Afl this talk about honourable losses..

The Roos nearly beat them the goodness sake. Yes they're a different proposition at home but if we play like we did v hawthorn for the 1st there quarters and kick a little straighter there's every chance we can jag a win

If it's close at 3/4 time and we crumble we should riot on HQ

He's def an upgrade on a horribly out-of-form JVR, even if he does similar work at the chop out. Just needs a goal or two plus the pressure and crashing of

Last time i looked, no one off DL is playing tomorrow Jnr. It's just an assessment.

Remembering that we are the only team the Roos have beaten all season and by a whopping 10 goals

Then there's our functional forward half and accuracy at goal to look forward to.

Based on where the two teams are at of late, a win could arguably see this one as the upset of the season so far if we pull off a W.

Unfortunately with AJ, aggro is about all we've been getting at AFL level. Hopefully, with a bit more time to grow and develop under his belt he'll be able to turn that around.

Fingers crossed.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
