I must admit I kinda thought it would be Ward who'd be dropped, even though he got twice the possessions of Brown.

Brown did a job on Mcleod, and did it well.

Ward has just been too loose, and his, uhhh... overexcitement... in the last quarter was one of the reasons Adelaide was let back in the game.

I love em both, I really do, but I like Ward better as a BOG player at Sandy.

Melbourne probably know that Rocca won't play.

Carroll on Holland makes me nervous, but am very happy that they didn't drop Frawley!

Glad Yze is back for his annual demolition of the Pies. Also leaves Davey to roam up the ground.

Why?

Was he under an injury cloud?

Yep, didn't train yesterday and Malthouse said he's struggling but should get up.

Melbourne probably know better, or they'll make a late change if Rocca does get up (probably Dutchy in, Frawley out).

Great team, possible our best all season?? who we got missing now from our best 22 i can think of Rivers, Whelan, Moloney, Pickett off the top of my head....

go dees...

Great to see the Bizz rewarded for some good form. I for one had doubted his value and whether he'd make it back at all but good on him for persevering.

Let's hope he plays as well as he did last week. It'll go a long way to helping us win on Monday.

Bartram.

The kid is so underrated. He is easily in our best 22!

rivers, wheelen, moloney, pickett and bartram are in our best 23 or 24.

ward, bizzel, godfrey and yze are the players playing for melbourne this week who would struggle to get a game if the above 5 were also available. (i have left frawley in for now but if his form tapers off either holland or bizzel could be the replacement, depedning on the opposition.

its interesting because imo bizzel for rivers is a straight swap, ward for wheelan is a straight swap, leaving 5 to fight it our for 2 places.

do you agree with my assessment of the best 22?

of godfrey, yze, moloney, pickett and bartram, which 2 would you pick for the last two spots?

yze always slays collingwood.

The seem to have trouble matching up on the ooooze.

We are underdogs, but i dont know too many people who would back their house on the pies.

Should be a cracker

The strongest back line IMO.

FB: Whelan Carroll Bell

HB: Bizzell Rivers Petterd / Bartram

Players missing from the best 22:

Pickett, Whelan, Moloney, Rivers, Bartram

not that big a fan of brown but he was 1,000 times better than ward, i watched the replay and ward massacred the ball 3 times in a row in the last quater alone!

The strongest back line IMO.

no woz with biz for frawley (when compared to my best 22). frawley is yet unprovven but im not sure if bizz will be around next year and frawley does have the height advantage...these two plus holland might be the toss up for the 3rd tall spot horses for courses style, but i cant help but think bizz and rivers are competing for the same spot atm...

clint you listed the same 5 players that i did as being out of the best 22. that means we need to drop 5 players from the current 22 to get them in. which 5 are gone for you? ward, frawley? godfrey or yze? and we need another. when i did the best 22 scenario i found we had 1 extra midfielder meaning moloney or jones missed out. jmac is on his way out, and chances are we will always have an injury or two so this scenario will be covered, but im just wondering what you have...

Moloney and Bartram.

The more time goes by, the more Godfrey and Yze become depth (well Godfrey has always been depth).

Pickett will be lucky to get a contract extension.

ATM I'd take out Ward, Godfrey, Wheatley, Frawley and Yze.

Pickett in for Yze, Whelan in for Ward, Moloney in for Godfrey, Rivers in for Frawley, Bartram in for Wheatley.

Having said that, on form I do think that the likes of Yze and Wheatley do have a spot in the side.

Frawley will have his time later on.

good call on wheatley. one swallow doesnt make a summer. but i think if he is in form and played in the right position he can be very valuable.

i think this goes to show that our top say 24 are pretty good. we may lack a player of absolute star quality but overall our top list is good. its our depth that really struggles. ward, brown, godfrey, holland, ferguson, jamar, warnock, and then the developing: CJ, miller and dunn, arent quite up to it yet. although i think thats a bit harsh on dunn.

actually whats interesting about that list. apart from godfrey we bearly have a depth midfielder so we? we have spare tall defenders, tall forwards, running back flankers, a winger or two, and a ruck but no spare midfielders.

any ideas?

actually i think this might even deserve a thread of its own, because it is off topic...

Miller

Indeed I agree as well but let's not go there - I don't need another long debate on that.

Dunn as well.

We are going to have some depth when they all get up.

Barts, can't forget Barts...

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.
