Carlton is a very interesting one.  They've paid a decent price to trade up to 3, I wonder if that is for someone specific or they were just generally impressed with the quality of the top echelon and wanted to get access.

IMO their greatest list need is a class small forward, it seems Kako is the pick but he's unavailable, Joe Berry would probably have been available right around their original first rounder. It's all the more interesting since they got rid of Owies, Martin and Durdin in the trade period.

It will be fascination to see who they go for.

Maybe @No. 31 can offer some insight?

Richmond have played this very very well.  The silence out of the Tigers has been deafening. No leaks whatsoever and everyone is still guessing what they will do at 1.

I've got a feeling they are going Jagga Smith at 1.  I don't know why, but I think that will happen.  It will be very interesting what happens from here.

Geelong eyes move for South Australian ruck prospect Alex Dodson at national draft

Four years after trading up to draft best-and-fairest winner Max Holmes, Geelong is eyeing another big move with its eye on one of the most highly-rated athletes in the current draft pool.

Can’t remember a draft with so many uncertainties this late in the day. Clearly a LOT of pick swaps hanging, where we won’t know outcomes till we’re into the thick of it on draft night.

I don't know if Dodson is any good but an apprentice ruckman would be good timing.

Hola old55, yes an interesting draft play by the Blues, was a surprise and well executed.

I think it is because the top 5-6 in these year's reputedly deep draft are all highly regarded so it is hoped you can't go wrong and you will pick up a future star. Only time will tell though.

Am liking this approach compared to Collingwood who are going all out on trade veterans ... a cliff fall is coming ...

I think Finn O'Sullivan has a bit of X factor about him and in terms of a very well rounded mid that is ready to go straight away, that would be Sid Draper, the highest rated South Australian (that the Adelaide Crows are keen on).

BTW, the Durdin we delisted was tall backup defender Sam Durdin. We still have the small forward, Corey Durdin (they are cousins apparently). In terms of small forwards, we will persist with Motlop & Durdin (both had season heavily disrupted with injury), the Zac Williams experiment and Fantasia as depth.

Also youngster Ashton Moir will probably replace Jack Martin as a third hybrid forward on occasions (and we may see Elijah Holland in that role sometimes as well). Moir only came on as a last quarter substitute twice in the tail end of the season but showed a real instinctive nose to kick two quality goals. He was once touted as a top 3 draft pick but injury derailed him in his last junior year. Lets see what he can do with another full pre-season in him.

The Blues will also be picking up the Camporeale Twins as father-son pick ups and will still have pick 38 as well. So looking forward to an injection of young talent hopefully.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
