The real state of the game

As I keep saying, it's sports entertainment and the club's who contribute most to the Exec bonuses will benefit most, be it prime fixturing, umpire favouritism, making the Grand Final, the list goes onย

There will never be a perfect game of umpiring that's just a fact it called a game with various rules and interpretations if a side is up that far they should not lose the game but people want someone to blame, so do you want video replay every decision,ย  because every decision even by that will be disputed by the media and supporters and then you are back to square one.

No one expects a perfect game. There are decisiona which can be labeled line ball...and there are stuff ups.ย  ย You wish to excuse Stuff Ups ?? Im interested.

And how are they going to do that?

Be more consistent in their adjudication of the game.ย

Donโ€™t have one rule to focus on each week. Apply all rules equally each week.ย

Simples

Hey no matter how a good a game is umpired supporters will still complain and I whenย  played you copped it on the chin and moved on to the next contest or game pretty simple.

Corruption and incompetence seems to be a great combination to describe the AFL these days.

Case in pointย

โ€œNo matter how good a game is umpiredโ€ย

implies inconsistencies.ย

Tell Adelaide supporters that.

Iโ€™ll take this site out of the equation.ย

I speak to many people about how this game is adjudicated on and off field. I hear from many supporters who support other clubs. There is a consistent narrative about the frustration about the law makers and law enforcers, and how this game is now frustrating to watch.ย
ย

Umpires focussing on a particular rule and announcing (the most recent) holding the ball rule. Why has this changed mid season.ย
ย

Reeks of inconsistency within a seasonย

No I live in reality, never said there are no howlers it's a game, not life and death to me.

Who cares about crowd supporters I don't just as they don't care about Melbourne supporters.ย

That's your opinion and that's ok I don't agree, it's umpire complaint you can read it on game day threads here 2 minutes in and it's the umpires fault, at the end of the day it's swings and roundabouts.ย

Swings are unfortunately one way these days....

Depending on your view of it.

Well... certainly not the reality that is AFL footy.

Things are what they are. The certainty that close games are oft decided by dubious ajudication is "take it to the bank" stuff.ย  Anyone outside the game would be aghast...surely.

So north being 50 points up and lost a game so that's the umpires fault is it, north are a young side xnd ran out of legs.

That is NOT the issue: they are the bottom side, playing a flag favorite who faltered and then got done by 2 Umpiring decisions....

I think you are not fully understanding the issue here demon3615 (I say with complete respect!!)ย

ย

I am expressing frustration about how the laws of this game are interpreted and adjudicated both on and off the field.ย
ย

I rarely watch games other than watching the Dees. I get my bias here with our club. I donโ€™t watch other games because I believe I can sit back and see fault in how the umpires get too many decisions wrong and can see inconsistencies.ย
ย

I could not give a rats about decisions going my way watching a team I donโ€™t give a rats about

Time for the AFL to limit interchange to 32-40 a game and that will slow the game down and when fatigue sets in it won't be as quick and easier to umpire.

Maybe we need 6 umpires...

People moan and then move on it's only a talking point for so long and then it's on to the next game.

I got it: your mother is an AFL umpire????

And had opportunities to increase or contain the lead, but it's not going to change unless you change the game itself.ย

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourneโ€™s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time atย Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: โ€œIs Melbourne even at the ground?โ€ Moments later, as Carltonโ€™s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demonsโ€™ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.ย
