Mother's Day: Goodness gracious me. Congrats to the AFL.

For years, especially when we were performing poorly, the AFL would schedule us at 1pm on Mother's Day at the MCG while we'd be mocked for getting a crowd of only 15,000.

Well, strike me dead. I just looked at next week's schedule and lo and behold ....

1pm Collingwood vs West Coast (which will be 11am in Perth)
Furthermore, it's to be played at Docklands. Yes, Collingwood will play a home game at Docklands.

I'm flabbergasted that the AFL have done something so good with their fixturing. So kudos to the AFL.

Most Pies fans don’t know who their mother is, so it’s fine.

Father's Day must be so confusing for them too

To the tune of The Addams Family ...

"Your sister is your mother,

Your father is your brother.

You all *ahem* one another,

The Magpie family"

I met this woman a few years ago who told me how she had six children under 10 years of age.

All the kids, both boys and girls, were called 'Daicos' because she was such a massive Collingwood fan.

"Fair enough" I said "but how do address your kids given they all have the same name?"

"No problem" she told me."I just call them by their surnames"

Gold, Big Col!

Edit. Interesting that on my device 'Col' was initially spell checked into Collingwood !

On mine it corrects to "colon". So, basically the same thing.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The winds finally returned to Casey Fields for the Demons’ third home game of the VFL season, and its impact was immediate. After two opening rounds played in uncharacteristically fine conditions, the Anzac Day clash brought back the familiar gusty conditions that have been a feature of the region at this time of the year.
Forced to kick into the breeze first, the slow-starting Demons faced a tricky opening against an enthusiastic young Tigers outfit. Casey responded by turning the contest into a scramble, pressuring Richmond into errors and missed targets. The tactic proved crucial, keeping the game tight for three and a half quarters before the Demons pulled away with the autumn wind at their backs.

  • REPORT: Richmond

It seemed as if the whole purpose of the Anzac Eve clash at the MCG between the Demons and the Tigers was building toward that single, unforgettable moment when Kozzie Pickett soared above Campbell Gray and all but fittingly etched his name onto the face of the 2026 Frank ‘Checker’ Hughes Medal.
