[Mod Edit: When there is a thread on the death of person it is a mark of respect for that person's passing that if you have not got a note of sympathy or condolence to provide that you dont post at all.]

Peter was a prominent QC, a former director of the Melbourne Football Club from 2000-2003 and a strong financial benefactor.

There's a headline/tribute on the MFC website and the players will wear black armbands on Saturday.

Peter Hayes made a great contribution to the club in difficult times. I didn't agree with the stand he took during the Joseph Gutnick saga back in 2001 but he put in for the club and was a true Demon. He was also a brilliant lawyer and, as happens with some people of true genius, he was also a troubled person at times. He deserves our utmost respect at the time of his passing.

My sincere condolences to the family and to his friends.
