How do Demon fans feel about Daniel Turner being given Michael Roach's famous nickname of "Disco"?

There have been many, many incidences of two or more players having the same nickname.

It's really not anything worth being angry or upset about IMO.

I’m happy with any nicknames given to our players, as long as they’re given/used by teammates.

False equivalence here. One is a nickname based on personality, no problem. Or a physical characteristic like red hair., bluey.

One is a nickname based on deeds not yet achieved. Problem. The same if his nickname was the GOAT. Laughable.

Jeff Farmer was nicknamed "The Wizard" before we even recruited him, just the same as the Hawthorn kid.

I wasn’t aware of that, just as well that he lived up to it over his career, although I still remember early in his career when he took that mark in the goal square and hand balled it into Gary Lyon, much to his dismay. Lol.!!!

Well I wasn't aware of that as well. There you go.

Watched the replay and one thing that stood out to me is how Kozzie quickly closes in to tackle someone.

He could be 20 m away and a player may think he has eons to move but suddenly he's all over them.

Love it

Have to say I liked Gary Lyon making that point on On the Couch, to get a title like "the Wizard" you gotta earn it through doing things that no one else in the comp can do. Right now he's no more of a wizard than Windsor.

Lyon made the point softly saying, "he will be an exciting player to watch as he grows, but he is no wizard".

If the new 'Wizard' kicks 9 in a half, I'll think about calling him 'The Wizard'... nah, probably won't call him that anyway...

This was after Kozzie’s goal five minutes into the 2nd. But it could’ve been after any of our goals. When Dave’s up our end we give him sooooo much love. Ever the professional, he never reacts. but we know he hears us. 🥰

To be frank, he looks pretty happy after most goals by any team, but I always enjoy him with ours.

Given the ARC nonsense these days, an umpire would be happy with any decision which is clear enough that they don't have to ask for a review to increase cryto's advertising time.  You know, at least a metre or two from the post or a metre over the line.

Yes, his resting face is a smile. But with the addition of a little twinkle in his eye when it’s our goal. 😁

Been meaning to post something like this for a while, W.

So thanks for finally getting it out there.

And, with D'land's current preoccupation with nicknames, is 'Twinkle-eye' appropriate, then, for David?

Yep that pretty much sums the media up, they have to have a target in the off-season to sell papers and get clicks. People like Corns have to make bold, stupid, and totally unhelpful comments like Oliver might never play again (seriously he should put his hand up and apologise for that). They circled and hoped for us to have a slow start, we lost to the swans and their mouths were frothing. But now two good wins have them off our back and they've gotta acquire a new target.

And they have...

I’m happy with that!

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.

  • GAMEDAY: West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?

  • FEATURE: 1925

A hundred years ago today, on 2 May 1925, Melbourne kicked off the new season with a 47 point victory over St Kilda to take top place on the VFL ladder after the opening round of the new season.  Top place was a relatively unknown position for the team then known as the “Fuchsias.” They had finished last in 1923 and rose by only one place in the following year although the final home and away round heralded a promise of things to come when they surprised the eventual premiers Essendon. That victory set the stage for more improvement and it came rapidly. In this series, I will tell the story of how the 1925 season unfolded for the Melbourne Football Club and how it made the VFL finals for the first time in a decade on the way to the ultimate triumph a year later.

  • PREVIEW: West Coast

Saturday’s election night game in Perth between the West Coast Eagles and Melbourne represents 18th vs 15th which makes it a tough decision as to which party to favour. The Eagles have yet to break the ice under their new coach in Andrew McQualter who is the second understudy in a row to confront Demon Coach Simon Goodwin who was also winless until a fortnight ago. On that basis, many punters might be considering to go with the donkey vote but I’ve been assigned with the task of helping readers to come to a considered opinion on this matter of vital importance across the nation. It was almost a year ago that I wrote a preview here of the Demons’ away game against the Eagles (under the name William from Waalitj because it was Indigenous Round).  I issued a warning that it was a danger game, based on my local knowledge that the home team were no longer easybeats and that they possessed a wunderkind generational player in Harley Reid who was capable of producing stellar performances playing among men a decade and more older than he.  At the time, the Eagles already had two wins off the back of a couple of the young man’s masterclasses and they had recently given the Bombers a scare straight after their Anzac Day blockbuster draw against the then reigning premiers.
