as someone who has worked in digital comms, product, and marketing for 20 years i find our actual content produced is routinely rote but sufficient given our obvious scarce resources and investment in it

what i can't allow is the routine errors - players names spelled incorrectly, information shared being wrong, content being uploaded and then deleted due to it being riddled with errors, etc. etc.

it's just the lack of attention to de(e)tail that really irritates me

I  had the live stream of the AGM on, the other night, here in the depths of Gippsland, as I engaged myself in cooking dinner, when I was stopped in my tracks by Gary Pert,s admonishment of ,apparently, one present at the meeting, who was there, "with your mates to cause trouble."
From this, I conclude:
1. The aforesaid "one", apparently an election candidate, has Mr Pert rattled,
2.The fact he gained 1900 votes may be a contributing factor, and
3. Mr Pert's explanation for disallowing questions and answers on the livestream may further indicate it's more than one who are rattled.

Spot on The Demon Duck. The member did not have an engaged microphone but Mr Pert did. What Mr Pert said was rude and unnecessary and for mine set the mood for the rest of the meeting. In fact I thought he had a marauding look on his face the entire time.

As for question time I think Mr Pert should acknowledge that not all of our heroes pull on footy boots.

Don't look at the player bios on the MFC website then. I wanted to see how many games sparrow had played and so as logic would suggest went to the MFC website player info section.

Couldn't believe it - the bio for all players except newbies is as per the end of the 2021 season (i'm not sure about the stats). I mean that is is amateur hour stuff. Surely up to date info about all players is the minimum fan might expect from an AFL club.

appalling

It was only a couple of days ago that the club fixture for 2024 was on the website.

Just amateur. I know Telstra limit the amount of content which can be uploaded each day, but the fixture was released months ago.

If you want real content, updates or just plain information about players, ticketing, training reports etc then Demonland is the place to go.
And no-one here gets paid to do all of those things.

I am guilty of pot-shotting the Socials/comms before.

On reflection though, all I really want is for my footy club to be really good at footy, not social media and comms.

The person doing the comms is likely on a fairly low salary so I think we need to cut them a bit (lot) of slack.

We also aren’t ‘owed’ anything by the club. When you buy a membership is one of the bullet points ‘gold class social media and comms’?

I get that it is frustrating but we aren’t owed anything by the club so I think we need to chill a bit.

Dont know why the club dont reach out to Dland and tap into the expertise and experience in developing  and maintaining this site.

Im a tech luddite but am constantly  impressed with the capabilities of Dland.

Thanks to all operators, moderators and contributors.   Hope you all have an enjoyable festive season and we all have a great new year.

Following on from that, and in the context of this thread, it's so good to have such an independent platform like this for all things Demons. Club-sanctioned media by its very nature has to be restrained in what it can communicate, and while there are thankfully limits to what can be posted here, it does often fill the gap that lies between what the club can say and what the fans want to know. Especially because there's such a range in fans' levels and areas of interest, from those who are perfectly happy with the social media happy snaps to those who'd like to know the nutritional content of each MFC player's pre-game meal. I'd wager that most on here are leaning towards the latter end of the spectrum, which probably isn't a need that the club would ever or should ever be aiming to fulfill!

So yep, thanks to everyone involved in keeping Demonland up and running, and all the contributors here.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
