Nobody expects the Demonstone Inquisition!

However, with little footy news to discuss, the only other current major sporting events of note have us horsing around, putting a soccer in it and hearing crickets.  It's clearly time for another diversion.

What is the common factor that unites all the past and present players in today's team?

It's a fair to middling team (the bench is not strong) and a very easy puzzle.

Answers in a PM only, please.

The first to solve the teaser will of course win themselves ... the comfy chair!

B:       Jack Henry     Easton Wood     Ryan Ferguson

H/B:   Nick Maxwell     Brad Miller     Hayden Young

F:       Paul Abbott     Peter Curran     Matthew Stokes

R:       Ben Marsh     Tom Green     Sam Mitchell

Congratulations to @Lucifers Hero who has solved the teaser and can expect a delivery truck to arrive shortly with her much deserved comfy chair.

Have at it Demonlanders!   There are still a couple of minor prizes to be won.

Thank you!  Send the delivery truck to a charity...as I'm a bit of a 'mimimalist' with furnishings.

I'll settle for a Untitled.png.b3ea2c70311d792ade2c9648f821c841.png

I won't be able to attend to this brainteaser until tomorrow morning, so it can stay open until then.

There's been no real hints so far, but I can reveal that the solution is topical.

Without high-jacking your gig, some clues for the 'early birds' this morning:

I found the most familiar names first then the not so familiar.

{Additional clues deleted}

From there it was a short step to work out how the rest fit a topical subject.

If you have the answer PM Demonstone, do not post it here.

You just did.

Oooops!!

But no-one has solved it in the 3 hours since I posted the clue so it can't have been very helpful.

Maybe folks need a clue for the Quiz Master himself !!

Edit:  since the 'early birds' had their chance to solve the quiz I have deleted the key parts of the clue!  Over to you.

Thanks for editing out the revealing info, Luci.

I'll keep it going for a bit longer.

The answer doesn't relate to football, but another sport may be involved.

The answer to this teaser is that all the players in my team share a surname with squad members for their country in the 2023 Cricket World Cup.

@Watson11 noted that former Adelaide Crows listed player Balraj Singh would have been eligible if he had managed to play a game at AFL level.

The team with their real names is listed below.  My favourite is that bloke in the centre!

B:       Matt Henry (NZ)     Mark Wood (ENG)     Lockie Ferguson (NZ)

H/B:   Glenn Maxwell (AUS)     David Miller (SAF)     Will Young (NZ)

C:       Scott Edwards (NED)     Lizaad Williams (SAF)     Dave Warner (AUS)

H/F:   Steven Smith (AUS)     Alex Carey (AUS)     Mark Chapman (NZ)

F:       Sean Abbott (AUS)     Sam Curran (ENG)     Ben Stokes (ENG)

R:       Mitchell Marsh (AUS)     Cameron Green (AUS)     Daryl Mitchell (NZ)

I/C:    Glenn Phillips (NZ)     Gus Atkinson (ENG)     Liam Livingstone (ENG)     Kane Williamson (NZ)

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

It seems like only yesterday that these two sides faced off against each other in the centre of the continent. It was when Melbourne was experiencing a rare period of success with five wins from its previous six matches including victories over both of last year’s grand finalists.  Well, it wasn’t yesterday but it was early last month and it remains etched clearly in the memory. The Saints were going through a slump and the predicted outcome of their encounter at TIO Traeger Park was a virtual no-brainer. A Melbourne victory and another step closer to a possible rise into finals contention. Something that was unthinkable after opening the season with five straight defeats.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.
