Sylvia to the Midfield its time

It is time to play this guy as a midfielder first and maybe rest up forward. I don't know his OP status at the moment but if it is under control he should be fit enough to play mainly as a midfielder. As a forward for the past couple of weeks he hasn't had enough impact but his brief runs up the ground he looked good. I would like to see our midfiled for the first bounce White, Johnstone, McDonald, Sylvia with Jones and Davey on the wings.

I'd rather see Bell in the midfield and Col off the HBF.

his brief runs are all he needs at the moment especially at TD, its about strengthening his OP and not doing too much too soon

if col and davey are on the wing who is playing short in the forward line?

yze has been playing pretty good footy further up the ground getting close to 30 touches a week.id rather him up there than davey atm.

pickett is out. but even if he was in he has never really played in the forward pocket. the goals he has scored have come playing across the half forward or running from the midfield...

I'd rather see Bell in the midfield and Col off the HBF.

I can't come to grips with the desire to take one of the few players we have with the X factor and make him into a half back flanker. The kid has never had to mind a man in his entire football career because he was too busy winning games for his team.

I like the idea of Belly into the centre, but with Petterd, Whelan and Bartram injured I think we need him down back too much. Take him out and we haven't got an accountable small in sight.

very well said fan. bell will get a big run in the centre this year, but not until our injuries work out a little bit...

i cant imagine sylvia playing across the HBF, unless they are playing a 5 man forward line and sylvia is the loose man. he cant be held responsible for someone else, but he would provide good run i believe. i'd like to see him pushed into the middle more this week.

I agree with comments ,ade about sylvia. He should be tried at many possies to see where he can be used on a regualr basis. He is a handy forward, i just get the feeling he could be more damaging elsewhere.

If he is 100% fit a run on the wing could be interesting. A move to HBF could also spark the team- is he is accountable enough though?

Just saying is all..... It's what I want to see, but what I wants and what I gets are two seperate things. I can't claim Sylvia off the HBF as an original idea, but I'm definately in favour of it. He went back against there against the Swans and I thought he played the best footy I've seen him play for us. I think he hunts opponents rather than the ball through the middle and he is just too hungry to play up forward as more than a one man forward line. Playing off half back he can still run at the ball and his fierceness and competitive edge are an asset. I accept it would leave the back line short on experience, but geez we're 0 and 6 and have just brought Danny Ward back in.... besides I think that some of the discipline Belly has developed as a defender may rub off on Col . I'll accept that some people believe Col has the X factor, I haven't seen it yet, in fact I haven't even got him pencilled in to our best starting 18.

put colin on the wing, he seems to be pretty good at the contests, then delivering into the 50

Well the wing would be another option. But I've got CJ and Moloney there in the grazman team.

I haven't seen it either and apart from a mark at Prinnie Park a few years ago have seen nothing since. If he can win a single one-on-one contest I'll turn, but for now he's just so.

Agreed.

I don't think he has been 100% fit at all at AFL level yet.

No thanks. Bell to play HB forever. Play to your strengths n Bell's a very good one on one defender.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
