I feel (have for a while now) that kick-ins are definitely an area we can improve a lot in. Imagine if Grundy had Gawns capabilities in overhead marking, that's where this duo could really be an advantage with kick-ins.

Great pickup .  At the game I noticed this and May seemed to be adjsuting his shorts, or making it look like he had to tuck in a jumper, etc.  On one occaison, the Ump told him to get going he was wasting time or something similiar.  The 2 I noticed in the 3rd quarter had him perfectly targetting Max near the centre circle.

Fascinating.  Good use of May showing versatility, but hopefully Bowey and Salem keep doing the shorter clever kick ins.

He is the softest player in our forward line lol. You are kidding me right? Bloke has no idea how to attack the football, arms go to jelly as soon as they are hit….. he’s toast and hope he doesn’t play again we need a player that competes in the air not just sticks an arm up. You try playing AFL level football with a knee that is bone on bone and then tell me how soft you are 🙄

Ben Brown has a much better idea of how to play a key position forward role than just about anyone else on our list. His body is unfortunately not what it once was and he’s bravely battling on because nobody else has been able to step it up!

this is the reason he shouldn’t be playing. If his body isn’t up to it anymore then he needs to go.

Because his knee is a very valid excuse for why he’s not the player he once was. To call him soft when he’s playing in pain and risking further injury is absolutely a pathetic call from someone sitting in the comfort of their home behind a keyboard. 

Why is he playing? I’ll let you work it out. 

Hint: it’s because he is the smartest and most effective key forward we have in terms of bringing ball to ground, leading and creating space, and not getting out marked. Even with a bung knee.

I agree. I would say the main reason he is being played still is because of his size. At 200cm there aren't many other options for genuine size in marking contests. JVR is 193 and competes well but he's best at marking on the run/moving. Ben Brown is able to get those long wobbly arms up in stationary marking contests to bring it to ground which is only ever what is being coached.

I would say when Grundy returns, Brown will come out. Is this the best option? Who knows but they can't keep playing Brown with his inability to move freely around the ground.

Fair to say BBB hasn’t been at his best since coming back in, but he takes heat off JVR, runs good patterns, creates space and brings the ball to ground. 

Will he be best 22 come finals? Maybe not, but “soft”? Unless you’ve kicked 3 in an AFL flag maybe show some respect to a premiership player

This is spot on and BB has and always will be a Demon immortal.  Age catches up with us all unfortunately and as you say we don't have an abundance of TFs knocking the door down at Casey.

However, if his injury is impacting that heavily it might be time to seriously consider bringing the Shack back?

He's a similar height and can also provide a chop out at CB ruck contests instead of Roohey.  In pretty good form at Casey as well.

Allows Max some time behind the ball if needed and also Roohey more time to focus his energy / efforts up forward. 

Getting the ball to our most accurate set shot a few more times wouldn't hurt either.

Yeah I think you are right re Grundy mate. 
 

I just want our chf to actually compete, not just bring the ball to ground….. take you know a pack mark every now and then :)

So you know it’s not easy, 350+ afl goals don’t come by accident. 

No one’s saying he’s not droppable, but even less than 100% fit he’s the best answer we’ve got right now and he’s giving it a crack. If the club thought Schache could do the job he would’ve been tried more than 1 game this year.

Brown has his deficiencies and he is clearly impacted by his knee issues which are fairly well known. He's close to the end. That doesn't mean he is soft.
