Ours is probably poor because we don’t really get a Bye.

2013/14/15/16 we were so bad we wouldn't have beaten this years West Coast. Since then we have gone 4 wins one loss " Port in 2018 by 10 points in SA" 2020 they was no real bye, we had one game postponed to later in the season. These type of record are often messed up by how bad or well team are traveling at the time. The one that stands out is how bad Geelong play post bye for a team that plays finals most years.

Interesting that no one is dominant post the bye. Wonder what the reason for that is?

Would say it is a slowness to get going again and you can be jumped by a team more locked in who played last week.

In fairness to the AFL we did get a proper bye in 2020.

The only problem was that it occurred after our second game of the season.

Top 3 best post bye performances since 2013:

1) 2022 - 64 point win over Brisbane at the MCG. One of the more complete post flag performances after a mid season slump, on the Thursday night stage. Jackson showed what a dominant first ruck he is.

2) 2017 - 3  point win over West Coast at Subi - The famous T Mac winner. Viney's best ever game with 28 and 3 votes.

3) 2019 - 14 point win over Freo at the G. A rare highlight in a dismal 2019 season. T Mac was the difference with 3 goals and 3 votes.

Essendon, 2021, was the other win.

Worst 3 post bye performances:

1) 2015 - 54 point loss to West Coast in Darwin. Disastrous last quarter after hanging around at 3 qtr time.

2) 2013 - 35 point loss to St Kilda at the MCG - First game under Craig. Given it was one of our better performances of that horrid year, it pretty much tells you what a disaster of a year it was.

3) 2016 - 22 point loss to Adelaide at MCG. An entertaining high scoring game but we couldn't go with them in the last quarter. The last time we have played Adelaide at the MCG.

On reflection most of our losses post bye have been very respectable performances (Port in 2014 in Alice and 2018 AO, Geelong in round 4 2020)

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
